Calcio Mercato are reporting that AC Milan’s former regista and disgraced captain Riccardo Montolivo is reportedly looking to retire after failing to find a club to sign with. The 34 year old midfielder was allowed to run out his contract with Milan this past summer after failing to attract any serious offers over the past three seasons. The midfielder was stripped of the captaincy when Leonardo Bonucci joined from Juventus and was replaced again by Alessio Romagnoli. Gennaro Gattuso also refused to call him up for the majority of the 2018/19 season and Montolivo did not feature in his final season at Milan.

The midfielder arrived on a bosman from Fiorentina in 2012/13. He featured heavily in his first four seasons with the Rossoneri but never really impressed nor lived up to the hype. It’s a sad ending for the midfielder as he could have succeeded at a smaller team in Italy or could have cashed in with a team in the likes China, United States or Japan.
