Gennaro Gattuso didn’t sound very happy after the Milan draw away at Empoli yesterday.
Gennaro Gattuso admits #ACMilan didn't kill off the game with #Empoli and made too many mistakes, but were also unlucky. "We're not a great team and we're not efficient" https://t.co/ZWOhCkE4jh #EmpoliMilan #SerieA pic.twitter.com/UwkRepZZJn— footballitalia (@footballitalia) September 27, 2018
Speaking after the match, Gattuso said:
Once again we are here talking about an unlucky outcome, but we must look forward and work on our finishing. When you systematically make a few too many errors, a little confidence does fall away and we can’t deny that. We’ve got to focus.
I don’t have to say anything to Romagnoli. If I need to talk to him, then I also need to talk to those who had four or five chances and didn’t score. Errors can happen, you just have to make sure they’re not costly.
We are not a great team and we are not efficient. We have to grow, whittle down some errors and work hard. If we keep playing like this, then sooner or later the results will come.
We went a bit too deep and tried to control the game, but until the penalty, we had run no risks at all.
I’m not so sure about the “no risks at all” given the couple great saves by Donnarumma in the first half, but Rino is right about needing to speak to the players about not finishing a few chances. The penalty was an unforced error, but that game should have been put to bed in the first half. This team can’t continue to hold on to one goal leads or hope for a clean sheet, because that continues to come back and bite the team.
