Today AC Milan fans got the news that Maldini is back at Milan and will be appointed to a new position within the club. A club legend, Paolo Maldini has 901 caps, over 100 Champions League appearances, and 5 Champions League titles.

He will be announced on Monday, Aug, 6th as Milan’s new Sporting Strategy & Development Director. He brings his wealth of experience including countless titles which hopefully puts the fans at ease during a transition of ownership for the second time in two years. Maldini has passed up on a position within the club for the 10 years since he retired. If he is taking a position now to me it’s a good indication that something about this project intrigues him and feels more concrete or long term than in previous attempts to woo the former standout defender.

Rumors have been swirling all summer about a return to Milan but all indications have been that Maldini was not going to come on board unless given more than a “ceremonial” role. It will be interesting to see what the actual power of his role will be and hopefully, he will have a positive impact on the club and season. Having maybe the greatest player in club history back is a good sign, and brings some excitement that we are moving in the right direction.

Needless to say, we are excited!
