AC Milan and Inter will finally clash in a crucial Serie A at the San Siro on Wednesday. The first meeting since a 1-0 extra time victory for Milan in the Copa Italia quarterfinal in December.

The Derby della Madonnina is one of the world’s greatest derby’s. The intensity, the city, the teams, the atmosphere and the historic players all contribute to making this one of the best and that will happen again when this game is played.

Of course, this match was originally scheduled to take place last month, but was suspended due to the tragic and sudden death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori.

Add the intrigue of Milan needing results to qualify for Champions League qualification, and you have got a good recipe for a spicy matchup. One where a win would take Milan to five points off of their rivals.

Enter Franck Kessie.

With Lucas Biglia out due to suspension, the responsibility of managing the middle of the field falls to the Ivorian International. It has been a marvelous second half of the season for Franck, after kind of struggling under the direction of former manager Montella.

Under Gennaro Gattuso, the results has been different, he plays with a different intensity and with more defensive qualities he has ingratiated himself to the rossoneri faithful.

For the derby, he will need to do that and more as we could see Rino starting either Riccardo Montolivo or Manuel Locatelli. In either case, Franck is going to be doing more than he usually does playing next to Biglia.

It’s why it is so important he plays well and helps dictate the flow of the game and get the ball up the filed to Suso and Hakan.

Then, maybe, Milan can win and still hope to enter the Champions League, a place rossoneri fans dream about returning to.
