AC MIlan’s 24 year old Spanish winger has been far more than just impressive this season. It hasn’t only been a good year for statistics and being integral in propelling the club forward, Suso has finally taken that next step in development that scouts were murmoring about for years.
Once, Suso was little more than a potential star who just didn’t seem to fit anywhere in the Liverpool system. In 2014, he left Anfield for greener pastures in Milan. However, then manager Siniša Mihajlović, shared Liverpool’s disappointment, and Suso was loaned out to Genoa for all of the 2015/2016 season.
It wouldn’t be until 2016 where Suso would begin to emerge as the prolific winger we see today. A left-footed threat who will punish the opposition with his agile and creative play-making abilities. The dream player Liverpool was looking to develop before impatience won out the day.
So why would Suso crawl back to the club who stopped believing in him?
He won’t. In fact, his relationship with Gennaro Gattuso is so strong, that as long as Rino is around, so will our prized winger. €40 million is said to be the magic number that would release Suso from all contractual obligations to AC Milan. He would be worth far more than that should the club qualify for Champions League or make a real push in this year’s Europa run. Milan would do well to remind the young winger that, every day. Or perhaps, it’s time to renegotiate terms with Suso, one that doesn’t contain an option for a release clause, agreeing to terms both parties (and fans) will be able to sleep comfortably over.
It’s a safe bet that should the club continue to perform and move in the direction that 2018 has so far dictated, Suso will be along for the ride.
