There have been lots of transfer rumors ahead of the January transfer window, and with Milan having new ownership it is not surprising to see reports linking the Rossoneri to players all around Europe and beyond.
Benfica has been a pipeline of talent for bigger clubs in recent seasons, and while 19 year-old Gedson Fernandes and 21 year-old Alfa Semedo seem to be attracting a lot of the attention, Milan are reportedly interested in a different young midfielder.
Florentino Luis would not be an a name that fans outside of Portugal would be familiar with. Florentino has been playing this season for Benfica B, the reserve team for the Lisbon giants who play in the Portuguese second division.
Florentino graduated from the Benfica U19 team to Benfica B in July of 2017, and this year he’s appeared ten times for the reserve team, and has scored one goal in eight league matches. He’s been deployed mainly as a defensive midfielder.
In addition to his time with Benfica, Florentino has spent time with the youth squad for Portugal, having made 11 appearances for the U20 side. Before that, he made 25 appearances for the U19 level and 16 appearances for the U17 level.
This link doesn’t see to have a lot of confirmation, but it wouldn’t be unusual for Benfica to sell on some of their young stars to bring in the needed cash. Of course, most players who are sold from Benfica are usually bigger names, but perhaps the scouting department at Milan sees something in the player that other teams do not, or perhaps they’re looking to at some young players to snap up before they become household names.
Either way, this type of move is for the future, and that’s even if Milan are really interested in the midfielder.
