There are new reports out of Brazil indicating that AC Milan have beaten PSG, among other suitors, to the signature of young Flamengo star Lucas Paqueta.
Globoesporte is reporting that Leonardo and Milan have convinced both the 21 year-old midfielder and Flamengo to have the budding star sign with the Rossoneri. Paqueta has recently made his full Brazil international debut, and he’s widely regarded as one of the top talents in Brazil. Any deal to land Paqueta will not come cheap, even if, as it’s being reported, that Leonardo has gotten the asking price reduced.

It is reported that Leonardo was a key part of the decision making process that helped lead Paqueta to sign with Milan, and having a Brazil and Milan legend such as Kaka would also have helped.
Leonardo started his career with Flamengo, so it would not be surprising to hear that he helped sway both the player and the club in the direction of Milan. It is also important to note that while Leonardo is currently the general manager of Milan and the person in charge of recruitment for the club, he was also formerly the Director of Football at PSG, giving him knowledge of both the workings of Flamengo and his rivals for Paqueta’s signature.
Paqueta has scored nine goals in 24 appearances in Série A, the Brazilian first division, this season. He’s also added two assists to go with his nine goals, and in seven Copa Libertadores matches, he’s also chipped in two assists. He’s played mainly as an attacking midfielder, but he’s also played as a central midfielder and across the front line a few times as well in his career.
Paqueta made his Brazil debut as a substitute against El Salvador and the United States in friendlies in September after appearing eight times for the Brazil U20 team.
Make no mistake, this would be a brilliant addition to Milan. This rumor almost seems to good to be true, so don’t be shocked if this ends up just being another bit of gossip with no basis in reality. But at least we can dream that another rising Brazilian star will soon be suiting up for Milan, right?
