Rossoneri Round-up for 1 October: Gattuso said Milan ‘suffered’ before the ‘quality’ came out

Gennaro Gattuso spoke to the media after Milan beat Sassuolo 4-1 in the late Sunday game in Serie A.

On the match, Gattuso said:

We did well to know how to suffer, then our quality came out. This team needs to improve in what we don’t like doing: too many times we struggle and leave too much space, when we start the play from the back, for instance. We took the lead five times and if the matches had ended in the 70th minute we would be talking about an entirely different story. This is what we need to improve.

Milan played well enough to win, but it’s not going to be a great strategy all season to rely on players hitting shots from outside the box as they did today at Sassuolo. And yeah, it looked fancy and was cool to see those golazos from Suso and Castillejo, but the match against Empoli showed what happens when the club relies on the fancy, highlight reel shots instead of doing the dirty work to score.

On the other hand, three points are three points.

On to the links.
