Stalemate ensures Milan head into Coppa Italia semi-final second leg all even

Just about good enough!

After beating Lazio on the weekend, Gennaro Gattuso’s rejuvenated Milan were unable to complete a statement ‘double’ over Simeone Inzaghi’s high-flyers.

Of course, the Coppa Italia semi’s are settled over two legs, so the 0-0 scoreline will be taken back to Rome, where the duel will be settled. Either way, Milan are a game away from a cup final which could really help put them back on track this season.

Milan’s manager, the ethereal Gattuso, will be concerned by the fact that his team (and not for the first time this season) were unable to craft many attacking chances at home. Perhaps the best chance fell to Hakan Calhanoglu late on, but even in good form, the Turkish playmaker couldn’t find the net, even with the goal at his mercy. On the other side, Gigio Donnarumma was able to stop a rampant Ciro Immobile with a number of crucial saves.

Either way, Milan will need to build on this performance - Gattuso won’t be settling for it.
