What a win for Milan over third placed Lazio! 2-1 the score as Milan win their third straight under Gennaro Gattuso. Under Rino, the team looks reinvigorated with will and strength to play unseen under Vincenzo Montella. That showed tonight.

It was Hakan Calhanoglu’s free kick that started the party for Milan in the 15th minute. A cross into the box that was headed into goal by Patrick Cutrone.

Then began a great spell for Milan that unfortunately ended with a defensive lapse by Hakan that ended in a goal for Lazio in the 20th minute. Hakan Calhanoglu was caught ball watching and Marusic sneaks behind him for an easy finish.

From there to the end of the half it was all Milan, playing great simple and beautiful football. It was just then, that in the 44th minute, a fantastic cross by David Calabria from 20 yards out was finished off by a crushing header by Jack Bonaventura to give Milan the lead 2-1.

The second half was a lot slower, with only two or three chances for either side and one great save by Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli. Of note, was a great save by Gigi Donnarumma to deny Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and a great cross by Hakan intended for the rare sighting of Andre Silva that was just missed by the Portugese international.

Then the last 10 minutes that included five of stoppage time saw Lazio throw the kitchen sink at Milan. Milan, to their credit, stood tough and saw out the game to a 2-1 win.

Looking forward is a rematch mid week again in the San Siro versus Lazio for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi final.
