AC Milan have announced that former Rossoneri goalkeeper, Christian Abbiati, is set to return to the club in a backroom role.

As for his role? AC Milan can fill you in - the below is taken from their official statement:

‘Today Abbiati has been named as Club Manager. He will report directly to the club's Sporting and Technical Director Massimiliano Mirabelli and will be the liaison between the team and the Club.’

The Rossoneri are certainly happy to collect former players - Gennaro Gattuso has returned from a relatively successful spell with Pisa to manage Milan’s youth team. Abbiati will have a bit of a higher role though, and will act as a bridge between the football club and it’s ownership.

Abbiati spent almost twenty years at Milan and clocked up nearly 300 appearances for the Rossoneri in goal. His presence is sure to be a welcome one behind the scenes at Milan.
