Vincenzo Montella is rather fond of Roma - we know that, but his comments this week about potentially returning to I Lupi once they complete their Stadio Della Roma development have further confirmed that. If you couple that with how unstable Montella’s job is right now, you’ve got a bit of bad situation brewing. It’s likely that Montella won’t be sticking around - and his hand will be forced by Milan’s new board if he fails to qualify for the Europa League this season.
That goal will fall to ashes if Roma come to Milan and beat the Rossoneri today. Milan managed to hang on to 6th placed with a last-gasp draw against Inter Milan, but since then it has been pure dumb luck that has helped the Rossoneri hold onto that final qualification spot. Fiorentina are also snapping at the heels, so Milan will be looking over their shoulder if they fail to stop Roma today.
As for Roma, a lot is on the line. 2nd place and the Champions League. There is a lot at stake for both teams. Roma want to finish Francesco Totti’s last season playing for the club on a high. Milan simply need to hang on and hope, because Roma are going to gun for them today.
