The Rossoneri are no strangers to the Champions League, having won the competition an incredible 7 times in their illustrious history. While that number is indicative of a decorated past, the present is significantly gloomier, with the club missing out on a Champions League spot for the last 4 years.
Milan were inconsistent in their opening few games of the season, having taken three points in their opening three fixtures, which included a couple of losses against Napoli and Udinese. The Casciavits however, would turn things around spectacularly, collecting 33 points in 15 games, playing some spectacular attacking football and managing to reach second-place on the points table for a short while.
The Red and Blacks however, were in for a rude awakening by the end of January as they crumbled under pressure, collecting only 1 point from four fixtures which included Torino, Napoli, Udinese and Sampdoria (in early February). That short spell of poor form saw Milan drop from from third to eighth in a matter of four weeks.
The Diavolo have recovered since then, but the going has been tough– Milan are 10 points behind third placed Napoli, with 53 points. Inter and Atlanta sit in fifth and sixth places with 55 points, while Lazio is fourth holding a total of 57 points.
With only 4 games left to the season, the margin for error has been reduced massively, if the Rossoneri wish to fulfil their ambition of qualifying for Europe.
The remaining games are crucial to the season and Milan’s future as a club–It’s now or never for the Devil.
