Gennaro Gattuso is failing to provide Milan with the jump-start they need, and predictions of a high-voltage Rossoneri are now faltering, and in reality we have a Milan side operating with a flat battery.
Milan welcomed Atalanta to San Siro with a chance to really define their new chapter - after a mixed start to life under Gattuso. However Bryan Cristante and Josip Ilicic put two goals past Gianluigi Donnarumma to compound the misery on an under-pressure Gattuso.
Sticking with a general 4-3-3 once again, Milan’s manager is failing to add any dose of creativity or life to a side severely lacking in every area despite a blockbuster summer transfer window.
Donnarumma wasn’t on his best form today and it showed. The youngster is usually the one who saves points for Milan, but found himself lacking on this occassion. Despite that, the Rossoneri were dire in the final third, with Nikola Kalinic playing the role of the villain once more. The giant Croatian was lucky not to be sent off for a high challenge on Atalanta’s Toloi.
Gattuso has it all to do at Milan, but where will the inspiration come from? It’s time for the young manager to rip up his plans and go back to basics, as nothing is working for him right now.
