AC Milan 2-1 Bologna: Player Ratings

Who brought it and who didn’t?

There were plenty of players who stood out in Milan’s victory, which everyone loves to see:

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 7.5

Donnarumma made quite a few impressive saves and looked confident. Could do nothing about the goal.

Ricardo Rodriguez – 5.5

Rodriguez was solid going forward towards the end of the first half, but was beaten by his man from time to time early on as well. Was more stable in the second half.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6

Bonucci played well, but was one of the few whose defending was questionable on the first goal.

Mateo Musacchio – 4.5

It wasn’t the best performance today from the Argentine, who was beaten by Destro after poor defending saw an unsuccessful attempt to dispossess him of the ball. Shaped up more towards the end of the game.

Ignazio Abate – 4

Abate wasn’t the most reliable defender today, as he was nowhere to be found when Musacchio had to go meet Destro on the first goal. Had a good cross to find Kalinic’s head for the first goal.

Giacomo Bonaventura – 8.5 (MOTM)

Jack was far and away the best player out there today. He was creative with the ball, made smart runs and passes, and bagged himself a brace as a result.

Riccardo Montolivo – 7

He wasn’t the greatest going forward, but Montolivo was excellent in defense today. He made two or three goal saving tackles to keep Bologna in check. Comically took a shot that went out for a throw.

Franck Kessie – 7

The Ivorian once again showed why he’s been Milan’s best piece of business this summer. He lost the ball from time to time, but defensively was sound and made good runs at Bologna’s defense.

Fabio Borini – 6.5

His technical skills could use a bit of a brush up, but he worked hard and did a good job after the formation shift. Provided the assist for Jack’s game winner, but picked up an injury late in the game.

Nikola Kalinic – 5

Kalinic did well to assist Bonaventura’s first goal, but wasn’t able to do much else against Bologna’s defense. Served his purpose as a hold up striker, but didn’t finish when he needed to.

Suso - 6.5

The Spaniard was a creative spark, but his finishing and passing was poor today. He still made dazzling runs and created chances, but he needs to brush up on the essentials.

Substitutes

Patrick Cutrone – 6.5

Cutrone came in and was immediately impactful and would’ve had an assist if Kalinic had made the proper run. Showed his inexperience at the end trying to score instead of hold onto the ball, but it was a lovely move to get around the first defender.

Andre Silva – 5.5

He worked well and dropped back to apply pressure, but wasn’t able to put himself in a position to notch himself a goal. Had a lovely ball back that Cutrone should’ve finished his run on.

Davide Calabria

Did not play enough for proper assessment.
