Despite the plethora of talented young players in the world right now—like Marcus Rashford and Kylian Mbappe, Milan’s goal keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was hailed as the number one young player in the whole world. Obviously, this is exciting news for Milan fans and could signal a promising future.

But to think that Milan, who currently sits in 7th place, has the best teenage player in the whole world is, ironically, somewhat annoying for Milan fans to hear. Why? Well, if Donnarumma is in fact one of the best young players in the world, shouldn't Milan be winning more games? Also, Donnarumma’s success might attract a lot of attention from clubs that are “sharks” in the club football food chain, so Milan’s owners may sell the keeper to the highest bidder. Not to mention, fans should maybe take these rankings with a grain of salt, as in 2008 Alexandre Pato was ranked the second most promising player and his career failed to live up to the hype.

Nevertheless, Milan should leverage Donnaumma while they can and hope that the keeper continues his solid performances for the rest of the season to set Milan on track to make the Champions League. In all honesty, the fans who should truly be exited are Italians who know they have a promising keeper after Buffon retires.
