Milan’s new owners have made their first major move - by appointing a fresh ‘Sporting Director’ in order to revamp Milan’s footballing future.
That man will be one Massimo Mirabelli.
Mirabelli lead Inter Milan’s recruitment from 2014 after coming back to Italy following a spell at Premier League high-flyers Southampton.
Mirabelli isn’t one to rely heavily on modern scouting methods and instead prefers to cover his targets ‘in-depth’ which usually means month long scouting trips. Thankfully, his role at Milan will likely keep him based in the city where he will send his own team of scouts out to do the legwork.
It’s clear in this sense that Milan’s future lies very much in the past; and that’s not a bad thing. Mirabelli seems like a grounded and dedicated soul who isn’t afraid to do shifts of extremely taxing work in order to get results. Milan’s future in recruitment terms seems very bright - especially if the new owners decided to bankroll Mirabelli and Montella in January.
