Are Milan Interested In Barcelona's Thomas Vermaelen?

The Rossoneri have reportedly turned their interest to Spain in search of defensive reinforcements.

Whilst the majority of Milan's transfer activity thus far has focused on improving the attack and bolstering the midfield, the Rossoneri are also on the hunt for defensive reinforcements. One name being heavily linked with the Rossoneri right now is that of Barcelona centre back Thomas Vermaelen.

After two injury stricken years at Barcelona, Thomas Vermaelen seems keen to depart the Camp Nou this summer. Whilst the Belgian has been linked with both Roma and Inter in recent weeks, he has now emerged as a target for Milan under Vincenzo Montella. The club are reportedly keen to acquire an experienced centre half to partner 21 year old Alessio Romagnoli in defence and Vermaelen would certainly fit the bill.

Despite limited playing time in Catalonia, the 30 year old proved himself to be an impressive defender at Arsenal in the Premier League and as an experienced international and despite his injury problems, would certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Cristian Zapata and Gabriel Paletta, both of whom have failed to convince during their time at the San Siro. Reports suggest that the defender could be available for as little as 3 million Euros, something that will no doubt delight Galliani. A solid, low risk addition.
