Following on from reports linking Milan legend and former manager Filippo Inzaghi with a move to Serie C club Venezia, the Lega Pro side have now officially announced him as their new manager. Inzaghi remained under contract at Milan following his dismissal as manager at the end of last season, but with the contract having finally expired, he is now free to pursue other coaching ventures.
Like Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was recently appointed Torino manager, Inzaghi is all set to return to management immediately, albeit a little further down the coaching ladder. Venezia were also believed to be looking at Giuseppe Sannino, but elected to go with the former Rossoneri coach in search of a more high-profile appointment as the club seek to gain immediate promotion to Serie B and eventually Serie A.
Despite enjoying relative success managing the primavera, Inzaghi struggled when given the opportunity to manage the senior team at Milan and the jury is still very much out on his coaching ability. That said, his former team-mate Gennaro Gattuso has done brilliantly at Pisa in Serie B, so maybe stepping down a level will serve him well. Either way, we wish him all the best and hope that he can rebuild his career at Venezia.
