Roma have solidified their position as Serie A contenders with a neat victory over a helpless rossoneri team who were given every chance to win ‘can’t lose’ game.
If only Milan stood to the saying - ‘When in Rome’. If they did so, they’d have bloody well won the match! Milan didn’t have an answer for Rome and never really threatened. The one chance they were offered came after a penalty was awarded following a extremely rash challenge by Roma’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. Unfortunately M’Baye Niang missed the resulting spot kick.
Roma capitalised by pressing Milan throughout the entire game and wrongfooting Gianluigi Donnarumma with an excellent strike from Roma’s Nainggolan. It was a seriously good shot, but questions might be asked of Donnarumma’s footing here.
Serious questions need to be asked of Milan’s strike-force who through a lack of chemistry and dynamism couldn’t threaten at all.
Milan stay in third place, one point above Napoli whilst Roma stream ahead in second place on 35 points. Three above the rossoneri who will need to bounce back with some fight, if they want to be taken seriously this year.
