It was just one minute into the second half when M’Baye Niang would whip his screamer past Sorrentino and into the back of the net.
The goal put Milan 2-0 and provided a buffer for a team notorious for letting leads slip late in the second half. The goal proved crucial, with Chievo’s Valter Birsa scoring from a brilliant free kick to reduce the deficit and provide a glimpse of hope for the home side, and despair for the visitors.
In the end Carlos Bacca would have the last laugh and Milan emerged victorious. It was what Niang did after scoring his goal that had everyone talking.

Streaking away after scoring, Niang heads toward the bench, where he produces a Milan shirt, holds it high and kisses it. On it is the name and number of injured captain Riccardo Montolivo.

Poor Montolivo suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury while playing for Italy against Spain, and underwent surgery last week that will have him out for at least 6 months.
It was a nice gesture from Niang and shows what the captain means to the team, despite what many fans think of Montolivo’s performances.
