Paolo Maldini Turns Down Technical Director Role

Maldini offered role at AC Milan, opts against it

AC Milan’s new CEO, Marco Fassone, is trying to build the new management team which will be formed by 4 Italian and 4 Chinese members, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The new CEO had already found his man for the role of Director of football, which is Massimo Mirabelli, but he also offered a job as Technical Director and Mirabelli’s collaborator to Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

Maldini has always stated that he won’t accept any role that would limit his freedom to operate in order to improve the team from a a sporting point of view. The job offer wouldn’t allow him to be as free as he’d like to so he had to turn it down and he used his Facebook page to do it.

The former Italy captain said that he would have been held responsible for the club’s performance on the pitch in the eyes of the supporters, the press and the shareholders but could have been excluded from executive decisions, which sounds a little strange! As a true professional, Maldini explained the reasons why he decided to turn down an offer to work and contribute to the growth of his beloved club. Unfortunately, this offer was not what he expected and coherently turned it down.
