AC Milan has issues it needs to take care of in the midfield this summer, but Nigel de Jong's contract is no longer one of them.
Despite reported interest from Louis van Gaal and Manchester United earlier this year, de Jong has committed his foreseeable future to the Rossoneri, signing an extension through the 2018 season Friday.

The 30-year-old Dutchman joined Milan from Manchester City in 2012 and has been a mainstay in the midfield since his arrival. While other midfielders have regularly flopped around him, de Jong has excelled in his defensive position for Milan.
De Jong played in 29 Serie A matches for Milan last season. Since his arrival, he has played in 90 matches in all competitions, scoring seven goals.
