Milan center back Philippe Mexes' goal against Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup has been named one of the 10 finalists for the FIFA Puskas Award, presented annually to the player who scores the goal of the year.
Mexes' goal came in the 62nd minute of the preseason competition in Asia and secured a 1-0 victory for Milan. The goal does not count as an official goal for the 33-year-old Frenchman, who has seven in five years with Milan, but FIFA deemed it worthy of recognition.
Mexes is the second Milan player to be nominated for the award since its inception in 2009. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was nominated for his long-range volley against Lecce during the 2010-11 Serie A season.
The Puskas Award is a fan vote. Fans can go to FIFA's website and pick the goal they like best.
