Andrea Bertolacci was set to get back on the field on Tuesday in order to continue his recovery from the muscular injury suffered against Lazio a month ago. His teammates were all happy to see him on the pitch on the pitch again. Unfortunately, however, the 24-year-old midfielder still felt some pain in his thigh after the training session.
On Wednesday morning, the club released an official statement on its website regarding Bertolacci's physical situation:
At the end of yesterday's training session, Andrea Bertolacci's rectus femoris muscle injury flared up again in his left thigh. The midfielder's fitness will be assessed again based on his clinical progress.
Once again, Siniša Mihajlović will be forced to rearrange Milan's midfield without one of his habitual starters in that position. This may prompt him to change their formation from the usual 4-3-3 to a more balanced 4-4-2, even if Bertolacci's injury doesn't look to be a long-term one. He's anticipated to be out for about 2-3 weeks.
