Given your team’s lack of athleticism and old age at key spots I fail to see how you all could possibly finish top 4. The EPL is a very physically and mentally demanding league. Your team is not up to that task week after week. Not much of a chance at top 4 at all. I would place Milan in that next group of English teams–Everton, Spurs, Aston Villa. So, maybe you get lucky and grab a uefa spot every couple years.

For those shitting on Milan:
Did you not see the lineup?
Dida, Favalli, Senderos, Emerson.
Hardly a starting XI.
Really, if you’re saying these things after watching this game, you know nothing of football and should stick to your Sky Sports News. Like the others said, we did what we needed to, against a good team away from home.
Yes we were outplayed for parts of the game, but look at who was playing for us. Either way, we came back from 2-0 in a hostile environment and salvaged all that we needed. I’m not taking anything from Portsmouth, they played a great game, and I admit it, but it’s not fair to take anything away from Milan either.Posted from

And the EPL is very physical, yes, that’s their style (or lack thereof) and it’s a completely different type of football, just like La Liga is the “cupcake” league compared to the rest. All the leagues have different styles, so no one can say who would finish where in any league. This is what makes Cup matches so interesting!

Dave, why dont you shut up. Keep to your comments to the team you support.
BTW, If Milan would only finish in the top 7 in the BPL,Portsmouth would get relegated in the Serie A.Posted from

Dr. T, i applaud portsmouth for their efforts. they proved to be a worthy adversary and there were many times during the match where they playing some absolute breath taking football.
but with all due respect, this is a milan squad who wasn’t really playing to the standard that they are known for. there were many times where i was pulling my hair out because i saw a misplaced pass by a player who would never make that mistake in a regular game. milan didn’t show up today, and as a result portsmouth was given the opportunity to enforce themselves into the game. but they played well and it was a good match for the neutral.
dave, the pragmatist that i am, what is your point? i also have those days where i like to blurt out random phrases that reflect no intellectual competence whatsoever, but ffs, i try to keep them to a minimum.
seriously, what is your point?

I’m impartial to both leagues, but if anyone thinks there are better, more skilled teams in england then anywhere else in europe; they’re crazy. The EPL is stacked with good footballers because they are willing to pay for them, almost always non-english players,. THis does not mean the english style of football is good. Infact it is the worst in europe. thats why they’re terrible internationally.

Pato should of been awarded a penalty.

Well, well Portsmouth fans… Suddenly you feel high, and very proud by playing well VS second string Milan team. Nice. I was able to see only first 60 minutes of the game, and by that time only pure luck kept you in the game. Breathtaking football? Hardly.
As for Milan. Two strikers attack that we were asking for cant possibly work with Emerson, Gattuso and Flamini in the same midfield. I agree that Favalli and Senderos aren’t safe bets in any team, and we needed to cover them starting from the middle of the pitch… But what possibly Kaka, Sheva and Pippo should have done all alone with that kind of support?

No chubby its more like that 2 strikers cant possibly work ever(if we have in team kaka dinho and dorf).Thats the clue. And sitting kaka is i think the dumbest thing i heard in my life.It would be like ferguson putting ronaldo on bench cause he didnt score 3 games in a row.And because kaka ties always 2 or 3 defenders giving space to others that is not important right?lol. We have a problem here that some fans think their team will win every single game in season. And as for uefa i have to say over again they cant play that shit.

sorry but even at the expense of pandering to merda or other team fans, i cannot delude myself into thinking that milan put up a good show or that we dont have a problem at hand…how can we say we fielded a second string team - the team had kaka, zambro, gattuso, flamini, inzaghi (who are all first team starters), senderos and sheva (who were our choice of only cb and 1 of 2 strikers to buy so we cant say they are second string players) - subs were dinhio, seedorf and pato - with a team like this if we cant smash portsmouth or lecce or torino, then we have a problem.
everyone keeps talking about lack of motivation - is winning the scudetto in maldini’s last year or trying to stop merda from equalling the number of scudetto not motivation enough - and if it isnt, then let the actual second string team play - at least they will want to prove something and may feel proud of the colours they are sporting…
sorry for the rant but this is ridiculous - the problem is not so much the losses or draws which can happen but the complete lack of enthusiasm and drive from the playersPosted from

*also the UEFA cup may actually mean something to the young players, not just to us idiot fans who spend money to go watch these ‘non-motivating’ matches

any maybe i dont understand the subtelties of football which the rest of u seem to do so well, but i can at least make out when a team plays to win (even if they end up losing) and when a team just doesnt care - and that is what i have been seeing in milan’s performance for the last few weeks - sporadic bursts of brilliance by individual players aside

never thought id see a uefa cup game have such an effect on people! uefa would be delighted to read all this and see that some people take it seriously. we got a draw against a decent team, with a poor starting lineup, away from home and qualified. im happy with that.

ronan, its not just the uefa game, its the culmination of the last few weeks of bad / lacklustre playing…that’s what’s got me so worked up….apologies if it came out too strong…

…look at the bright side. they came back real strong at the end and showed a lot of heart. there’s also a lot to look forward to on Sunday as we will get to see how a presumed 2-striker formation paired with Ronaldinho works.

Inzaghi still has it. He’s still dangerous in the box. His performance merits a starting place against Palermo in the weekend, alongside Pato, with Dinho behind them.

yep Pippo-Pato-Dinho

If any of you guys watch baseball - a sport which I dislike, by the way - then a good analogy for Pippo’s role is that of the closer. Beat up the opposing team’s defense with stronger, faster strikers for an hour, then put Pippo on for the last 30 to exploit their “tired-legs” mistakes.

I also think that some of you guys severely overrate how “experience” and “technical skill” stack up against pure strength, pace, and power. You guys remember back in 07 when Milan visited another EPL team in Manchester? Played a good game and still lost 3-2? Or when, in a previous visit in 05, they squeeked out a 1-0 away to the same team? Not saying that Portsmouth is on Man U’s level, but their players have many of the same qualities. No matter how good you are, it is hard to play against a team that is stronger and faster than you (and have a few players that are not bad themselves). It’s not that Milan weren’t motivated. Did you guys read Tony Adam’s comments pre-game? This was like a Cup final for them, and they played like it. For Milan, they knew a draw was enough, and they played like it. Plain and simple. Why do some of you continue to make a crisis out of a team that for years has done just enough to get to where they need to go? I ask again, does Milan have to win 6-0 every game for some of you to think that things are “alright”?

By the way, Milan are 6-0-1 at home with 13 scored and 4 conceded. Only Genoa has scored more at home. Inter, by contrast, have scored 7 at home. Away, Milan are 2-3-1 with 6 scored and 6 conceded. Overall Milan rank 5th in the league in goals scored, and have the second best goal differential. The year they last won the schudetto, they were 3rd in goals scored and 2nd in goal differential. And we were all making the same complaints that they were playing “below their potential.” I think its pretty clear that
A)looking at the statistics and player capabilities objectively, we are NOWHERE close to panic mode
B) under Ancelotti, Milan (like Liverpool under Benitez) are a Cup team - they play their best under a high amount of pressure, like one off or two legged fixtures, or games against Inter/Roma/Lazio/Juve. If you can understand that trend, then you can see why they don’t seem to play with much “motivation” in games they don’t feel are that important. Maybe they “ought to,” but then again, would you yell at the sun for being yellow when it “ought to” be blue?Posted from

when i advocated for kaka to sit i did not mean in the long term i just think he’s a little tired and needs a break, sit out the palermo to regain his 100% form and fitness and start playing like the kaka we all knew he’s capable he just needs to regain confidence again i think he is worried by dinho’s recent emergence of form (his two free kicks this week have been anything but savable!!) and a game without kaka starting isn’t the end of the world. the team needs to stop relying only on his magic to win games.

Such a shame for Portsmouth, they were so close to a famous victory. What a fantastic free-kick by Ronaldinho though, he scored another one similar to that against Torino at the weekend.
With regards Pippo Inzaghi, has there ever been a better goal poacher in football? I’m going to stick my neck out and say he could be the best ever!
