Napoli v Milan
By: Gianfranco | October 28th, 2009
So I held the 4-3-3 tactics piece because I was extremely intrigued as to what Leo would do against an underachieving Napoli team. We all know the defensive frailities of the 4-3-3, but if Milan can score early than those frailities may become a non-issue. Borriello looks poised to claim that target man spot in the attacking line and a goal should cement that position for him. With 3 games in the next 7 days, the lineup for this evening will dictate much of what Milan and Leo are capable of moving forward.
Outside of the fact that Milan is on a two game Serie A win streak and looking to make it three, trips to Napoli are always special. Napoli, in the province of Benevento, is where my father is from and matter of factly is the team he should support. This is not the case, so this game carries a “derby de la Famiglia” atmospshere that I enjoy more than other rivalries, when all your cousins like Napoli you can’t help but feel ready for a match like this.
(this is not my family, but boy is it close)
Not to mention the infant stages of my Milan fandom began at a time where Diego Armando Maradona was ruling Serie A, and their greatest rivals was our very own “soon to be” invincibles. The games were epic and to this day I still feel that electricity when we meet Napoli either at the San Siro or the dreaded San Paolo…For a very thorough and complete preview Neil at the Napoli blog has come up big, check it out here.
I will be back around Friday to recap, explore the 4-3-3 and prepare for the weekend fixture against Parma…wow what a busy week to be a Milan tifosi…

What a waste. But when you play catenaccio from the fifth minute of the game, you are bound to concede at least one goal if not two. Especially when you lose a player and you have liabilities as your full backs.

I hope Nesta is back for the Parma game.

basically, we got killed in midfield…it was the same not able to keep the ball and dinhio and dorf were the most guilty of this…dinhio cant and seedorf didnt feel like doing a lot of defending, so that left pirlo trying to make some god awful tackles and that one wayward pass of his led to abate’s ridiculous slide for the red card…post that, a bad game became a disaster since abate was positionally doing well at the back to break up napoli’s attacks…once he left, those goals were bound to happen….why the ref gave 5 mins of stoppages is also weird

and avia i did see and comment here on dinhio’s brushing past leo when he was subbed…he was muttering under his breath and barely acknowledged flamini as well

shit
just caught this
“Ronaldinho stormed off and insulted his Coach when he was substituted, but Leo also insisted there was nothing to worry about.
“I have an excellent rapport with him. We have already talked it over, he is fine and it’s positive that he is so eager to stay on the field.”

did anyone catch this??He was pissed when he came off and kind of brushed off Leo – looked like their shoulders banged together for a second. Hopefully Dinho was mad or disappointed in himself – he certainly can’t expect Leo to keep him out there forever while he struggles to find some vestige of form.

apparently some napoli fans were shining laser beams into dida’s eyes – which is why he was protesting and now the club has been fined

Since there’s nothing about it, I hope it’s not serious and he’ll be back for Real, if not for Parma.

A few points:
- I was VERY impressed by Dida and Silva. Yes Silva was at fault for the 2nd goal, but a solid solid performance. He’s a rock at the back even without Nesta.
- I am extremely disappointed at Abate’s performances at right-back. He’s extremely suspect, and Napoli created many chances from his side, and he conceded many corners. He’s got high pace and work-rate, which I love, but not the best of defensive skills. I prefer Abate as a substitute for Seedorf, and Oddo as right back.
- I LOVE PATO.
- 2-2 is a fair result to be honest. It really sucks to be 2-0 up after 5 minutes, but Napoli played their a55es off and deserved a point. Let’s be real; we didn’t play amazing.
- There was no need to substitute Borriello for Inzaghi, really. When you’re up 2-0, make a defensive change and leave one just in case. Why sub an attacker for an attacker? He should’ve left one sub just in case. When Abate got red he could have subbed out Pippo for Oddo. Bad tactical mistake.Posted from

I’m fine with this as long as he’s back for Real and this doesn’t turn into another chronic problem.

Does anyone else realize the lack of depth we have in the middle?
We have plenty of defensive midfielders in Ambrosini, Gattuso, Flamini, but creative attacking midfielders? Dinho and Seedorf ONLY, and they’ve almost played every game. We need back-up in that position badly.

“@moka – is pirlo dead or why do you not count him?”
Fad – at times i feel he may as well be dead, god knows he does spend the majority of his time running around like a zombie anyway

HAHA thanks avia.
But no, he’s not dead. He’s the only creative defensive-player, if you know what I mean. His place is permanent in the middle along side 2 of Seedorf, Ambrosini, Flamini, Gattuso. What we need is either a defensive playmaker like Pirlo, or an attacking midfielder.

to be fair to Old Sleepy Head, Pirlo has been better in the last 2/3 matches and hasnt been anonymous like he was for the majority of last season
I just hope he stays awake for the rest of the season
(Leo must be administering those adrenalin shots i suggested!)

Haha i just watched Fiormerda’s highlights. I can’t believe that some of their supporters actually think Jovetic is better than Pato. Just because he had one or two good games. He was absolute shite against Genoa, got booked for a dive that rivalled Gila’s against Celtic and then had a cry when he got taken off haha. Next baggio huh? i cant believe the Fiormerda supporters would insult il Divin Codino like that
