Monday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | August 18th, 2008

-The same way we started last week by saying the drubbing from Chelsea was no big deal; we need to say that same thing this week as well. Sure we beat Juventus, sure Ambro played out of his mind, sure Dida looked worse than he ever has, and even Janks played well but it is only a preseason game and there is still a lot of work to do. Our defense still needs work, and our team was missing a fair amount of players who still need time to gel and get some cohesion on the field, but we will talk about that more in a second.

Before we talk about that though, I want to just say that starter or not next season, Ambro is a Rossoneri through and through and someday he should be honored for the type of hard working, role playing, and putting the team first mentality that has made him so special. I can’t help but hope that if Ambro does get a shot at CB that he does it so well that he earns himself a place in the backline game in and game out.

- The next thing I want to talk about is Milan/Carletto’s formation when the Brazilian trident gets back in gear. Some of you may choose to see a the goals and the fairly sound run of play that Brazil is starting to put together, but I see and hear a lot more. I see that Dinho is a anchored in a place around the 30M on the left side and has not do all that much drifting and cutting inside that made him so special. Heck he hasn’t done much running at all and outside a few sharp passes has not really made an impact on any single game against children. I am not pleased and arguing against this point, won’t get any of us very far because the opinion goes across the board, with JP Dellecameran saying that Brazil may as well field 9 players with the way Dinho is playing.

As if that wasn’t enough, to make matters worse the other Milanista on the team is basically getting benched. Dunga has called out Pato and said he needs to develop more as a player which is a fair assumption due to his age, but what hurts more is that Milan is somewhat responsible for the supposed “lack of development” of Brazil’s young superstar. Is playing alongside Dinho and Kaka going to help him?

The bottom line is that Carletto needs to realize that fielding the three them all the time is not a necessity and he has the luxury to use each player to his strengths. Pato with a partner, Kaka next to Seedorf, and Dinho on a bench on the sideline, ok the last one was harsh, but I think until he proves himself it is not required that he starts, and Carletto needs to have the balls to show that.

-Ivanovic and his camp has finally opened his mouth and said that he would prefer Milan over Juve, and even the though last week’s deal fell through due to an issue with the buyout clause it appears that Milan may still be in the running for the CB.

-Lastly, Lippi has named his squad for the Wednesday’s Azzurri friendly, and I was not all that pleased with it. For a guy who said we needed to move forward, it looks like we turned the clock back August 06 with this lineup. It is a friendly and an opportune time to get some young blood into this squad; instead he has chosen Iaquinta and Gila, neither of whom in my opinion deserve to be on this squad. The Azzurri need to move forward and I know the Olympics have recently ended and a lot of young players may be considered unavailable, but the likes of Cassano and Maggio should not be overlooked.

just posted this on the italy page…gila trying to lay claim to the goal is like a goal post trying to get credit for having the ball bounce of it and roll into the net…ridiculous….well, at least that’s one part of the transfer policy that makes me feel ok right now, unless of course prandelli manages to get the parma magic back

If we really had to get Sheva, the money spent on Ronaldinho could have been spent on a good CB. However if Sheva comes back,we should loan out Paloschi. And why are we not getting rid of Brocchi?

reports (rumors) are saying Milan are close to getting a new defender. Ivanovic agent said the player told Chelsea he wants Milan. Kovac agent said both teams are talking, still early, deal for around 5 million.

    defender before sheva.

yah i agree with giving away Brocchi. it will get us more money to get someone. if our management are saying we dont have money, then off load some players who are costing money and we can get something for. Brocchi, Emerson…

Fet I wish I wouldn’t have looked at those pics…as much as I want to strangle him sometimes…no one deserves that. He was there to pay respect to Sensi and the roma fans ruined that…*shakes head in disapproval*

fet, i am hoping rino getting hurt is a blessing in disguise. Flamini or maybe some young guys will get more playing time, and maybe gattuso will have some time to finally rest a little so he can get back into form. He has been more or less playing non stopped since 2006 WC

    fg - word!

I watched Rino play in the recent friendly against Man City and i dont think he has recovered from the poor form he showed last season.

Flamini can more than take Rinos place in the squad at the moment and i def would love to see Rino rest fully so that he can come back as the Rino we all know and love.

Even tho he should be made to crawl over broken glass, the idea of Shev coming back and playing alongside Pato, SuperPips, Kaka & Dino is really quite mouth watering!

We could, in theory, have one of the most potent attacks in the whole of Europe!

Now if only we could sort out our defence…………….

Avia, Circa 20004, these giys are save Pato, are all coming off bad to worse seasons. The potential is a through the roof, the actuality is that all these guys really need to prove themselves again.

Gian - “the actuality is that all these guys really need to prove themselves again”

Well said, from last season, imo, Rino, Pirlo, Kaka were shadows of their formerselves.

Referring back to the Man City match, the one big plus is Flamini, this guy is gona be a beast in our midfield & The ‘Dorf is already firing on all cylinders!

The big question mark really is CAN Carlo pick these guys up??

I dont think he can, i read the stataments coming from the merda camp recently and they sound like they already wana go out and play where as, i look at our lads and wish they had more time before the season starts!

    :-(

At the moment Milan needs some depth in the striking and defensive departments and it doesn’t really matter where they get it from. Sheva is as good as any given that we know they’re not willing to spend big.

i’m actually glad that gattuso performed badly yesterday which means that lippi will not call him up and he will be able to concentrate on milan - sounds really bad but after the rush job that he did on his injury last year, he really cant play on both the teams…
from a milan perspective yesterday’s match was good - pirlo showing signs of coming back to form, zambro brilliant in runs down the flank and crossing but made defensive lapses (which is not something we need!)
gattuso - was sad watching him play - he’s just not the same rino we knew
bonera - def does not deserve a place in the national team - didnt give me any confidence

Ringhio situation. yah at least its not serious and most importantly he’s resting at the moment.

“The exams to which Rino Gattuso was subjected today at the Gallarate hospital (Varese) confirmed the diagnosis which was anticipated yesterday by the national team medical staff represented by doctor Castellacci: a contusion to his right shoulder. Rino Gattuso will have three days of rest, while, as observed by doctor Manara, social doctor of Milan, when work resumes at the start of next week, the possibility of Gattuso’s return to training will also be evaluated.”
