Milan 3 – Cagliari 1, ITS ABOUT TIME!!!
By: Gianfranco | April 5th, 2008As I sit down to watch the Red Bulls with a towering gin and tonic, I start milling through the game post comments and game recaps on various websites. The comments coupled with the recaps have given me a strong feeling on the game, which I still have not seen, due to prior commitments. I will most definitely watch it first thing in the morning, but am beginning to wonder and decide if my watching or not watching affects the Rossoneri result?
The back line, outside of Il Capitano, was a bit of enigma today. Bonera slotted in at his comfortable right back spot, Carletto still wants to turn him into a CB for some reason, and seemed to have a quality start. Kaladze and Maldini held down the middle, which is as comfortable a pair you can give me outside of Nesta and Maldini. Favalli held down the left.
Pirlo seems to have gotten his groove back, and even though he was not on the score sheet it seems that through the comments he earned the Man of the Match talk. His performance was apparently so strong that he tired himself and left the pitch for a *Gasp* Gourcuff sighting. Why he was not on from square one probably has to do with the fact that Seedorf and Kaka were fully healthy and allowed Carletto to go to his comfortable xmas tree which seemed to have yielded results today. This formation also allowed him to give Pato a much deserved break, though I would have liked to see a Paloschi/Pippo tandem…but then again what do I know?
While Pirlo found some form and Rino as well, not everyone in Red and Black was firing on all cylinders. It appears that Kalac is human and his howler cost his shut out today. Had this game been 1 to 1, the spider would be crucified and demoralized right here in this paragraph of this post, but because he chose to make his mistake in a game that appeared to be comfortable our way we can let it slide. I guess Dida needs to see that difference a mistake against Cagliari vs. Inter is a huge deal. In the other net former Milan net minder Marco Storari proved his worth, and one can only think what kind of skills he can fly with a solid defense.
Where do we go from here….
Fiorentina welcomes Reggina and Sampdoria welcomes Livorno, folks these games do not look to be all that difficult for our close table mates, but at the end of the season everything is a toss up as exhaustion starts to balance the sides. Regardless of those games Milan needs to continue to focus on their responsibility, which is three points every time out, with next week being a tough test. We can talk about that later for now enjoy the win pretty or not, FORZA MILAN.

dude. gourcuff is gonna be such a stud if they just keep letting him play. he made quite a few moves for goal and some nice passes. he keeps the ball well too. he needs first team football every week. he will be a complete badass in 2-3 years time.

From Channel4:
Milan’s supporters staged a protest last night criticising the club’s transfer policy and the possible return of Andriy Shevchenko.
The Ultra group Old Clan handed out leaflets to the crowd in and around the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Cagliari.
It contained a list of seven complaints to the club after general manager Adriano Galliani pointed out the fans should not criticise Milan considering the last 20 years of silverware.
“The President is absent and no longer has the motivation or the desire to invest that he did before,” was among the leaflet’s statements.
“The only smart signing of the past three years has been Alexandre Pato. Enough of players on the downward slope of their careers and continual fitness problems.
“Ariedo Braida spent two weeks in South America scouting for talent and returned with the disappointing Leandro Grimi.
“The many season ticket holders have been taken for a ride by broken promises, a squad that is not up to the standard of Milan with great stars who instead joined the opposition.”
The most forceful point was made against the possible return from Chelsea of former crowd favourite Shevchenko.
“We absolutely rule out Shevchenko, who is 32 and would fill the only non-EU slot, preventing Milan from signing a younger and better player.”
In Italy clubs can only sign one non-EU player from a foreign League per season.

I could only see the second half so missed the best parts. Kaka was sublime and the long rest has done him a world of good it seems. Gourcuff showed flashes of his true abilities and can and will be a worthy successor to Seedorfor any other playmaker in midfield if given more chances in the first team where his surrounded by the champions.
He needs to dial up a bit more consistent intensity defensive nous to his game but I’m beginning to think this will come when more first team responsibility is thrust upon his shoulders.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be around for the game…i had another sharp blow today…a little boy who was only 16 months old, I know passed away after 14 months of fighting leukemia…so i wasn’t all in that great of a mood.

Thats really sad,Ro.
On the game-it was an important win.Next week is Juve.Kaladze and Nesta are both out. I think either Bonera will step into the CB role, and Cafu will come in on the right.Or maybe Simic(if he is fit) will be in the centre, and Bonera will be on the left.I’ll go with the first one.Posted from

Sorry,Bonera will be on the right(not left)

i think the list is a good idea and gesture from the fans. better hand out papers rather than attacking the players and literally attacking the bosses. Milan needs therapy, so far they’ve been getting some from the pressure from the media and fans. soon if things continue deteriorate, electric shock therapy is the only solution = very bad news for Uncle Fester, Big Boss Sil and co.
i agree with Berlusconi not being the old Berlu. why? age? got more involved with politics and neglecting Milan? his sons grabbing his wallet? his management/Galliani’s fault, not his, because they’ve more responsible for the last couple of years?….. Berlusconi should step up and re-commit himself to Milan, take those vows again in public and show us the old Berlusconi signings, give us a new 1989 team. After all he did turn the club to what it is now. i cant describe how pissed am i not to witness the 1989, i blame my parents!! just watching those old games makes you feel like you’re dreaming, because no team like ever existed and i doubt any will.
i really hope we see a revelation, because we need one badly. hopefully our bosses are aware of that.

on Gourcuff, no one can argue whether he has talent or not. but the problem is they say he doesnt fit in Milan. i can see him playing well, especially after developing but if Carletto and the experts say he wont fit, then who am i to argue against them.
i was pretty impressed with Bonera today, he stepped up and filled Oddo’s shoes.
btw, next game no Nesta or Kaladze, both suspended. Pato, Pirlo & RInghio are not injured and will play against Juve.
and Ro, my condolences, sad to hear that.

Cafu, Simic/Digao, Maldini, Bonera will the starting defence I’m guessing.
Beautiful eh? Watch Del Piero screw them over.
See it’s times like these, where we realize how little depth the squad has. Having to rely on players like Simic and Digao and Cafu in big games is truly saddening. For a team competing on all fronts, to really win trophies, you need world class starters and good subs. In Milan’s case it’s good starters and CRAP subs.
I don’t see how Gourcuff doesn’t fit in. I think he can take over Seedorf’s role, if he truly can live up to that, which I believe he has the potential to, but slowly it’s dying out. He has the creativity, pace, vision for that position.
I think 90% of Milan fans believe in this kid.. What the hell is wrong with Ancelotti?

Moka, I also believe that his job on this squad was to occupy Seedorf’s role. With that being said Seedorf is very versatile and should be used as such, I just dont know what Carletto’s thought process is anymore, get the kid minutes, quality ones, and let him fail. But dont ship him off if he hasnt been given a fair shake.

Who’s gonna be your starting back 4 next week? I have to say, the injuries and suspensions in the back are very good news for us.

alessio, looks like Maldini & Bonera in the center with Cafu & Favalli on the sides. so far Pato is still out, thus having Pippo & Kaka upfront backed the 4 midfielder, Rino, Pirlo, Ambro & Seedorf.
i hope Pato recovers, because we can really use him. or at least see him in the 2nd half(or the other way around), its too much for Pippo to play 90 minutes.
will surely be an exciting and decisive game.

it a good (but really not good) news. Galliani said our summer market transfer wont get affected at all whether we make it to the UEFA or CL, it will be the same, whether talking about Ronaldinho or anyone else.
so hopefully we’re sensing that some changes will be made, all we can hope for, is that they’re good moves.

Man, this was a good game. I mean, the win was good, but the spirit we showed was the most heartening thing I’ve seen in a while. Attacking, unselfish play, everyone defending when need be, it was all great.
I’m a little nervous about the Juve game, though Bonera helped those nerves immensely with the game he just had. He was solid, I was impressed. Yes, Cagliari is obviously not Juve, but I think he’ll be confident, always good.
Ro, sorry to hear your sad news, hope you’re doing ok.

A win is a win. Good on Inzaghi! I can’t say they played great because Cagliari were making mistakes or in tennis terms “unforced errors”. Well, a win is a win.
Next, Juventus. I do not want to think about the lineup when Milan’s plagued with bad luck. Just pray they can pull through.
The weird trend in the last couple of games is that if Milan loses Fiorentina loses. If Milan wins Fiorentina wins. What the !&#@ is this? We’re still 4 pts away from them. FORZA MILAN!
