Milan 3 – Atalanta 0
By: Gianfranco | March 9th, 2009At first glance you can surely say welcome to the Pippo show, but as always upon further review this is not always the case. Milan basically got out of there way just enough to put three goals on a stout Atalanta squad. It is safe to say that sans Doni and Floccari this team is not as good, but for the first time in what seems like eons Milan played poorly and won big. Yes you read that properly, played poorly and won big! Sure we have played poorly and drawn; played poorly and lost, and played poorly and won by a single goal, but when is the last time we played badly and scored three goals!
Ok, let’s get this out of the way early. Go ahead and choose your MOTM, it is ok be honest, now after you chose Pippo we can talk. Pippo scored three goals, but his only contributions were his finishing strikes, and beautiful and clinical as they were, he was constantly offside, showed little for the ball, and didn’t even create space for his striker mate. Many times he was not even considered a viable passing option because he was not even close to being onside. Pato on the other hand created a handful of great situations for himself but lacked the finish that Pippo only Pippos sems to have.
Becks did a ton, he ran up and down the pitch, delivered passes with surgical precision, and even got his hands dirty on defense, but his tireless effort left him spent by the 75th minute and his play quickly declined from that point on. He did ever show some tenacity and aggression that only Pato has shown recently, and provided a much needed offensive mindset for team that hadn’t score a pretty one two goal in since the thrashing of Lazio. I will talk more about Becks in the middle of the week.
My man of the match was Abbiati. Yes he made some mistakes on the on distributions, and yes he spilled some balls that he should have possessed, but if you consider for one minute the three saves he made in the span of 10 minutes following Pippo’s first goal it is safe to say that this man kept us in the match. When he popped up and howled to the curva after his stellar fingertip save and his face showed all the passion, that’s when I knew that no matter the outcome this man was going to have a game, and he did. Just imagine for second if Senderos and even Paolo, yes Paolo, had not hung him out to dry, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion, but here we are. If Lippi was not a legacy man then one would think our GK, for the first time ever, would be under serious consideration for a National Team cap.
Back to the curva for a minute, Avia passed along a ton few photos, but the next two stick out the most to me. The curva is not happy about the state of the club and they have never been afraid to show it. I find a small comforting feeling in the fact that you and I all know that Fester read it.

The last thing I want to bring up is the embrace shared by Pippo and Carletto, sure it was an awkward as a thirteen your old boy trying to plant one on his first girlfriend, but the fact Carletto wanted a handshake and Pippo gave him this,
says a lot about Carletto and his relationship to this group of players. He is more than a coach, to some a teammate and to others a mentor, and in the end he has had a bad run of form just as like his players. But to say he is losing the ship is not even close, because these guys still like him, and that has to count for something.
Tomorrow, if you are all interested, I would like to pass along my homework for my coaching class. I was asked to do a tactical and technical breakdown of Milan’s starting eleven, and the results are god awful, by the looks of it they all suck. But it was an excellent exercise to help really see the team as a whole. I guess if you are not interesting, you can skip the next post in it’s entirety.

i don’t think anybody thought that gourcuff would be tearing the french league up.
i think it was k who said that our box to box midfielder was going to be flamini (and gattuso did that job) but the problem with flamini is that he doesn’t have a decent enough technique to pull some rabbits out of his ass inside the penalty box. i do agree though, flamini has been making some forward runs which are pretty decent, but most of his shots have been straight at the gk. i watch a lot of roma games, so i can give you the perfect example of perotta. if inzaghi is no skill and all genius, perotta is the same. this guy can’t hit the barn with the shots he has. he gets into the best positions, but if had any decent shooting technique and composure, he would get a MINIMUM 20 goals a season. thats how flamini is turning into.
this problem, i hope, can be solved by gourcuff, who, i hope, can be molded into a box to box midfielder. he surely is capable of it. from what i remember of him, his positioning (in a defensive oriented formation when the team doesn’t have the ball) is a bit suspect but that can be worked on.
but carlo doesn’t seem to be doing much about keeping gourcuff. but gourcuff needs to show some mental toughness and grow a sack and say to the world that i am here for a place in the starting XI. with men, its always an ego problem (the size issue..). gourcuff needs to step up and stake a claim in the starting XI, i’m sure he is fully capable of doing that. borriello did it, and he was our starting striker for a few games. carlo is not ignorant, he is willing to change his ways if the player shows him character.
A, i guess what i said about carlo was an exaggeration (decisions on transfers). but the past few seasons, we have been getting players that help us in the marketing aspect of the game rather than the footballing. ronaldinho and beckham. ronaldinho has done his job when asked, and beckham is slowly proving his worth. but i’ve never seen a coach who is star struck by his own players (carlo).
if we can just get our hands on that one midfielder. today we are linked with fiorentina’s kuzmanovic and genoa’s thiago motta. its a start i guess, i haven’t seen them play so i can’t judge the type of players they are. but i hope they are midfielders that can run not only beyond the ball, but beyond the defense line breaking the offside trap.
just look at all of brighi’s goals for roma in the champions league this season and you’ll see what i mean. even his goal vs. inter. you will never see a milan midfielder in that position. that is exactly what we need.

guys the good news is seedorf says “hes been playing too much”…looks like hes not injured but rested….that means no seedorf for the next game atleast.. :d ….i think this is a big step…. his game time shud be reduced….

Great news coming from Dorf…stay on the bench!

I do hope we sign about four GOOD players in the summer. I look forward to CL games next season and will not accept defeat this season. We MUST make the CL!!!!!Posted from

danmit now Beck’s goes down. Ronaldinho & Kaka better make thier way back soon because i can already smell a disaster brewing in the air for the weekend game if David, Ronnie and Jesusboy dont play. we cannot afford to drop anymore points because in my opinion we should at the least try to catch Juventus.

and donadoni is napoli’s coach now.
thankfully thats one less coach to worry about when we need a new coach after carlo.
i wish him the best though. and if he proves his worth at napoli, i would welcome him with open arms to milan.

The thing about gourcuff is that its out of our hands. If bourdeux pony up the cash, no amount of begging and bitching is going to bring him back here. If it is decided that Bourdeux cant pay up, and that he will come back here, I can guarantee that Ancelotti will make nice and start talking about how he didnt have a fair shot at Milan.

This isnt true. even if bordeaux get enough money to buy him, gourcuff can reject a contract and return to milan. So actually, if the buck stops anywhere its with yoann.
A bit of behind the scenes wooing would probably bring him back. I think gourcuff probably realises staying at Bordeaux would probably be a backward move or at least a sideward one. If milan gauranteed him a certain amount of playing time he’d come back. Although those sort of guarentees are part of our problemsPosted from

“Clarence Seedorf, like the AC Milan squad as a whole, has had an inconsistent year and the player believes it is because of the intense workload that he has had to thus far endure.” – Warning from goal
If this is the case then I hope he is willing to sit on the bench more often. Ill be really pissed if he whines about playing time in the future

hahaha!
Looks like Carlo doesnt have the balls to bench his players so they have to whine to the press about being over-used!?!?!
Its what we’ve been saying about Carlo since last season!
Beautiful!

Are you kidding me? We weren’t even in the damn Champions League this year, we’re out of Europe completely, and he’s complaining about the work load? What, should we find some inconceivable way to drop out of Serie A too by playing miserably against bottom tier teams? Oh wait…
Not what I want to read after the crap month we’ve have.

k: I think using “murdered” to describe anyone but Sporting today is an insult to their supporters…poor, poor souls.

Hana – we all watched guys like Pippo, Kaka, Pirlo & Rino get ground into the dirt by Carlo last season and it was clear for the whole world to spot they were totally F’d!
So what does Carlo do this season??
Does he bother to ease off??
Does he F!Yeah, he hasnt got every player he wants (how many coaches actually do??) but how well HAS he used the squad at his disposal??
Dont-Boo-Me-Dorf’s words speak volumes (unfortunately its the most beneficial thing he’s done for most of this season)

Juventus out but that was a good performance. They too like us need about 3 or 4 players to become really good again.

i am surprised that they didnt start giovinco. He was a constant thorn in the neck of chelsea defenders.
I think they have a similar problem as we do. Good youth players not being used over more established less driven players.

k – surely if gio WAS at Milan he would likely never feature in a Milan CL match or maybe for the last 60secs at the most lol!

seedorfs only played 30 games, that includes coming off the bench. If he cant handle that workload he is surely a bit player at most and on form probably someone to offload

For the good of Milan, he has to go, but we need to bite the bullet and examine the long term worth of keeping (dare i say it) Pirlo & Ambro??
(Favalli, Emerson etc are a given in my book)

Avia, its funny you say that because juve fans often have gotten annoyed with the amount of time pato gets at Milan in comparison to the amount of time gio gets at Juve.
Grass is always greener…

Ambro is a good squad man, always has been. They stretched a bit much when he became an ‘international’ and suddenly ‘undroppable’.

juve put up a good fight tho they had a few refereeing decisions go against them…good to see that no one actually complained after the game and concentrated only on what they felt were flaws in their own technique (lack of experience etc)…italian teams are having a bad run…roma has a tough one today and tho i would like some italian team to stop the english pr machine, no way can i square with my conscience if i support merda…so go man u (that hurts tho!)

shot at the probable line up given the list of injuries & dorf wanting to rest (controlled my tendency to play janku in more than 1 position!)
bonera maldini senderos zambro
janku emerson flamini
pirlo
pato pippoTHOUGH WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS –
antonini maldini bonera zambro
janku pirlo flamini
viudez
pato shevathink antonini, sheva and viudez deserve a chance…and this formation can be shifted to a 4-3-3 as well – could work or too flaky?
