Milan 2 Parma 0
By: Gianfranco | October 31st, 2009Just some quick observations I noted as I watched the match today. I will be back tomorrow with a player breakdown after a second viewing, and I will also discuss the possible Ghanian arrival as I watch the U20 World Cup final between Ghana and Brazil that I was able to get my hands on today after some calls and digging.
-Pirlo’s bread and butter is passing, so if that goes what is really left? Frankly nothing, he continuously found his targets who were under immense pressure who went on to lose the ball more often than not. He also turned into defenders with almost every opportunity on the ball. Is it fatigue, is it lack of interest, I don’t really know but the saga will continue without a real replacement for the man in the middle.
-Parma plays some very nice football. Slick passing, great movement, and tenacious in the midfield! I was so intrigued I found myself googling players like Galloppa and Morrone early in the match. Sadly Morrone is on the wrong side of thirty, but how nice would he look at the RM spot if he was south of 30? Credit Parma’s coach and players for implementing a quality system and making it work against fierce competition up to this point in Serie A, it is nice to see a team getting it right after coming up from Serie B. On a side note, there was a time where loaned and co-owned players didn’t play against their parent club, apparently those times are long gone, at least he didn’t make us pay.
-WTF is going on with Nelson “no hands” Dida? He really has turned back the clock to 03-04 here or is he just seeing a blip in form in the absence of the first choice guys? Either way I will not complain and sadly have even found some confidence in the quick reflexes Brazilian, this of course under the circumstances that he doesn’t have to catch an easy ball or deal with a fan running on the pitch!?
-Ronaldinho’s yellow in the 42nd minute was completely foolish. He threw the second ball on the pitch after Antonini had thrown the ball in. What was worse is that he seemed cognizant of the whole thing, not to mention the referee was watching the entirety of the play!? It is not so much the card that bugged, but his attitude in situations with the referee, if you kept a tally of how many times he is left with his arms aloft waiting for a whistle that will not come, you would easily be in the double digits before the half. He was having a solid game to that point and I can’t help but think his mental state is part of his dip in form.
-The injury to Antonini is extremely frustrating. He was questionable for the match, but passed fitness to start and have an excellent first half. He was strong on defense and seemed to be a bit more unleashed on the attacking front; with great runs into the box and even finding a shot on goal, albeit horribly weak. He is a big piece of the Milan depth chart and if he can come through with success will allow transfers to be used on the midfield, shame really. What is a bit more puzzling is the inclusion of Zambro with Real midweek? Why not use Favalli to assure Zambro full rest??
-Borriello looking game and fiery through most of the match. Put his nose into a lot of good places and even got a shout onto his teammates to move and work forward. Frankly I like it, strikers need to be hungry and aggressive and that works for me. On the flipside Pato looked “checked out” he was marked heavily and rarely received his passes with some space, but he needs to stay focus and learn from challenging games such as this. The near penalty was surely arguable, but it wasn’t called so move on and get on with business.
-Silva is unflappable. He made countless 1 v 1 tackles and if you were a casual fan you may have mistaken his skill and movements for his backline mate Alessandro Nesta. Yes he was guilty of a mistake midweek that led to a goal, but he seems to have no memory of the error and his confidence continues to boom. A great addition, and credit to Leo for making this move a reality and getting his find game time.

And here we are again with that Dinho-sick debate. I am happy for his contribution, this is the right way forward, but we should wait with fireworks for now. At least he is trying. However, the main isssue is still his mentality and if he can`t fix it, he will stay as he is. A quality-average player, what was once No.1 player.
I agree with Aiva – “Far worse imo was about 10mins later when he collided with a parma player and went down and proceeded to handle the ball as if to pressure the ref into giving a foul (he risked getting sent off there imo) but he needs to concentrate more the part of the game that allowed him to set up two goals” I was surprised with the referee`s decision not to punish an intended handball, since there was no foul. Not that I wanted to be a player down.
Anyway, respect to everyone except for Oddo. I am very happy that our old lethal Marco is back. I was among few to defend him and his qualtities for the past two years and now he is slowly getting where he once was and should be.
Forza Milan!I don’t know why folks are focusing on a couple of questionable things that Dinho did during the match when he otherwise played quite well during his 90+ minutes. You cannot conclude that his head was not in the match – of course it was. Come on now…

It is becuase, Fifaguy, up until now there is more questionable things about him than pure quality. It is correlated with his head and will.
This was a game with Parma. If you just bring in your mind the game with Napoli, he was mainly loosing balls and waveing his hands.
But I certainly don`t want to talk too much about it, as it is meaningless. The point is he made two assists for which I am very glad and all of a sudden some want tell me I was wrong in thinking that purcasing him was not a good idea.
What matters is that the team is doing well now, eventhough on my opinion it will soon get exhausted, because there isn`t any depth and there is plenty of dead wood on our roster. So, I still don`t have high hopes for this season.
Nice too see we signed up a young promising player.Posted from

I think Borriello isn’t fit enough to play again in two days, Pippo will probably get the start because of that, his experience and the fact that he also got a goal and an assist in the last game he played…I’m fine with either one, I have full trust in Leo to choose the best team for Tuesday – because every time I suggested some player shouldn’t be played or some formation employed he proved me wrong.

“What matters is that the team is doing well now, eventhough on my opinion it will soon get exhausted, because there isn`t any depth and there is plenty of dead wood on our roster.”
Milams, we’re going through the most demanding part of the season right now with seven tough matches every 3 days and we’re doing great with 4 wins, 1 draw and two games to go. After Lazio there’s a 2 week break and then our schedule is somewhat more relaxed until the knockout phase of the CL.
I’m actually growing higher hopes for this season with each game we play and with each player that wakes up.

Dinho did 3 (three) positive things on the field today, two of them resulted in goals one goal scoring opportunity, take this out and he was terrible. what the hell are you trying to say man i don’t know but you sound like a moron to me.

Can we wait till the end of the season before we make conclusions about players?
Dinho loses the ball often because he admits that he is afforded less space in Italy than in Spain, now if he had played more last year, he might have become accustomed to that but for whatever reason, he didn’t play.
The reason I defend him is because I fell in love with the player and it hurts my soul to see people berate him and such plus I truly believe that quality can not be lost.
Anyways, good game Milan, season’s not going as bad as we first envisioned.Posted from

Jovan agree, a crucial perido, one game at the time. We`ll see. It`s still a bit early.

Btw i was never a dinho fanboy whatever that suppose to me, i guess in you’re haters infantile brain it’s suppose to be an insult. but the real world is usually more difficult than ps3, cricket is the only game i know that’s the same way in the real world it does’nt take much imagination.

gotcha, Milams. in yesterday’s game i saw a very high ratio of quality/questionable in dinho. hope it continues…

Fifaguy, I hope too.

“I don’t know why folks are focusing on a couple questionable things that dinho did during the match when he otherwise played quite well during his 90+ mins”. why.. because these people are hateful people pure & simple.

i don’t think that, weah. dinho draws a lot of negative attention because of the incredibly high standards he set for himself during the glory years and because he has not been able to regain that form over the past three years.

I was happy with Dinho yesterday. He wasn’t fantastic and I would not give him MOTM, but can’t deny he had a hand in both goals.
Kaladze was terrible. I was watching him especially because I’m worried about how long Nesta will be out for – no, he didn’t make bad tackles and his marking was only half bad, but his passing was atrocious. Silva is the reason Parma never really looked that dangerous (only a couple of scary moments all match), he was immense.

Wow. There are obviously 2 sets of rules given Ronnie’s media/Silvio driven sensational signing 2 years ago…1 for Ronnie and 1 for others. Fact remains who cares. Gio, Chubby, Avia, Ranjeet etc…all have been Milan fans since the dawn of time, course. And the Dinho fans, the fanboys have not. Lol, quite remarkable. In the end, all that aside, here’s the story: against Parma, without him on those 2 sensational passes they score 0 GOALS…0! And Borriello’s finish on #2 was equally impressive. He made an outstanding contribution yesterday. He did shit vs Napoli. And what did GianLoser bring out as his 1st line on R80…well read it above.
So Milan fans, Ronaldinho fans or whatever if you don’t like what this clown has to say and others on this board, ignore. Don’t even bother reading it, because you know what’s coming. I pass over his comments, as well as the other clowns. They are always right because they have been Milan fans since before they were born…and Ronnie will never live up to their standards. 2 sets of standards, 1 set by Ronnie since his incredible Barca days (his own doing) and 1 for the rest. That speaks to his genius. Remember if you’re shit, no one talks about you, who would bother. The fact that these guys are always saying something, mostly negative tells you how much they truly admire him or hate him, perhaps some jealousy who knows.
Later. Raising my glass to a Milan win and some brilliance by Dinho and Borriello. Fuck off to those who hate em…lol.

Guys guys… lets not turn this back into a dinho fans vs the rest again. Dinho is playing a bit better because he is being alot simpler. he has changed his game from the way it was at the beginning. which is what we all said he needed to do. Let us just be happy that our team is back to playing well and finding the right rhythm. you can look at the dinho issue from both sides…. he does not have the same influence as he did before, but he can change a game. to the dinho fans, he can change a game but he is not the same as before. the team is winning, lets be happy. and i believe galliani prob made the buy of the decade with adiyiah for $500,000. Lets enjoy the good moments when they come.

I am certainly still on the fence when it comes to Dinho. He can be infuriating to watch when he tries to beat a man, loses the ball and then throws his hands in the air for a whistle. However it must be said that he has contributed to a large percentage of Milan’s goals this year, and that’s precisely what you want from an attacking mid. I want to see if he can retain some semblance of form for a long period of time.
On another note, this team looks better with Borriello on the field, regardless if he is scoring. He gets his hands dirty, he holds up the ball, he is an aerial threat, and is a nuisance for a team’s defence. I like him.
Also, Thiago Silva is amazing.

I strongly agree with the more open minded observers on this board, there are clearly two sets of standards for players at Milan. there are the unfair god like standards imposed on Dinho and the other standards for everyone else. Apparently dinho can directly contribute to 2 goals, including the game winning goal and somehow he still hasnt done enough. Tell me then, what more could he have done for you guys not to cry about the yellow card? Should he have scored a hat trick while simultaneously singing the Italian national anthem and kissing the badge? Would that have been enough?

Statistics are starting to speak in favor of Dinho – Cassano is the only player in Serie A to make more assists than him so far, and 3 players are at the same number as Ronaldinho.
Antonio Cassano Sampdoria 6
Mauro German Camoranesi Juventus 4
Vitaly Kutuzov Bari 4
Ronaldinho AC Milan 4
Maicon Internazionale 4Posted from

Luis, nobody’s crying. He was good. He can be better and everybody here wants him to be better. He does some things that are irritating to people who support Milan, which you don’t understand because you are obviously a fan of Ronaldinho, not the team. If somebody else did that thing with the second ball he would have gotten the same verbal beating. It was annoying, it was needless, it made him seem silly and ultimately, getting a yellow card in the first half for such a trivial matter is plain irresponsible.

By the way guys, did you know Milan has the biggest attendance in Serie A? I was quite surprised:
1 AC Milan 240,821 48,164
2 Internazionale 273,261 45,543
3 Napoli 193,000 38,600Posted from

the first number is total attendance, the second average attendance (we’ve had 1 home game less than Inter).

Jovan, that number is misleading. The reason Milan have a higher average attendance is because of the derby which was a Milan home game, although half of those people were there for Inter.
If you take out that game, then Inter have a higher attendance (all numbers from ESPN):
Milan
Milan Inter: 78,467
Milan Bologna: 40,000
Milan Bari: 37,354
Milan Roma: 40,000
Milan Parma: 45,000Inter
Inter Bari: 20,000
Inter Parma: 55,000
Inter Napoli: 45,000
Inter Udinese: 50,000
Inter Catania: 50,000
Inter Palermo: 53,261Sometimes averages are misleading.
