Milan 0 – Bari 0

By: Gianfranco | September 28th, 2009

To say I am furious is a bit to strong. Speechless, dumbfounded, and utterly disgusted may be the better way to phrase it but at this point my nightmare of reliving the 1997-1998 season is upon me. Other than a small kudos to Bari for really playing their socks off and embarrasing us on our home pitch I have very little to say at the moment, hopefully I can muster something a little later that doesn’t sound like a terrible tirade, but until then I just want to post your thoughts, as well as make an inquiry as to where have all the “supposed” Milan fans gone? Going got tough and it has apparently thinned the herd…at least we know who is in it for the long haul now…

We sucked last night. I was starting to cheer on Bari last night, not really because I wanted them to win, but the fact that they were really trying, and playing some good football. They carved us open on a number of occassions with simplicity and ease. Watching us never mustered any excitement at all. It was like watching paint dry.
I’m going to keep on defending our attackers, not because they are any good, but they aren’t getting any service at all with which to demonstrate if they are any good or not.
I noticed for the umpteenth time last night, that our opponents counter attack us with real pace, and when its our turn to counter attack, we get up to the halfway line, by which point they have all 11 players on the edge of their box, and we are just about getting up to full speed, around 3 or 4 mph it seems.
Why didn’t we cash in on Pirlo? Why do we insist on playing these idiots at the back (excluding Nesta)? Why do we insist on playing such defensively minded players in midfield? I’ve-played-my-good-game-quota-for-the-season-Dorf is back to his uselessness self after a good couple of performances. Gattuso and Ambro are okay at breaking up play but they are useless at creating play, Pirlo is useless, insisting on still trying long over the top balls with zero success, and Dinho can’t run, and now can’t pass the ball either.
I don’t have the solution to our problems. But I’m reasonably confident that it doesn’t lie with our current crop of has-beens.
I can’t remember who told me that relegation isn’t a possibility because other teams are far worse than we are, but I’d like to ask who is worse than us right now?

For the beginning Leonardo should be sacked and Spalletti appointed. He won`t do miracles, but some pride should be restored this year. And when the club will spend something, he is the man for the job
Leonardo can`t create chemistry, he has no authority and his team is unable to score goals, period.

oh and FUCK RONALDINHO. i am fucking sick of it. I also want to know where those fucking pricks that were here in the pre-season telling me that they will come back here after the season has started and to fucking gloat and tell me to go fuck myself when Ronaldinho carries this fucking team. I am no longer taking the moderate approach with Ronaldinho. Bench the SOB like Ancelotti did and let him fucking sit there with his thumb up his ass.
Where are the Dinho nut-suckers? Where is Silvio and co. Supposed Milan fans for 20 years that have disappeared like the hope that Ronaldinho could return to his previously lofty heights. I hope he he and Berlu crawl up each others asses and die.

I chose not to cite the commenter, but the sentiments are more than enough to show the feelings of many and the need for change sooner rather than later.

    Wha!

    Ive read through the Leo piece and more worried when i read this;

“Leonardo then responded to those pundits who have criticised Milan for not running enough.

“To say that Milan don’t run is not true. I don’t believe that it’s only a question of fitness. Rather I think we have a problem building the play and keeping the ball in attack.

“With this attacking formation we suffer on the flanks. The problem is not the attack, but stealing the ball higher up the pitch and staying in the opposition’s half. You create chances like this,” Leonardo concluded.

    So what he means is

    1. we need to steal the ball higher up the pitch

    2. the fact that we dont run ISNT the problem

I was all for getting behind Leo but these words REALLY worry me

Yes the flanks are a problem but that isnt the only or most pressing problem imo

“im sorry k but at the minute the vast majority of players on that list are better than the milan squad. i was never saying they are all world class, my point was people who say there arent any quality italians around at the minute are talking absolute nonsense. the problem is calcio is seriously lagging behind in terms of player development”

Alex, they may be better than what Milan have right now, but they arent world class and most will never be. If we are going to rebuild this team into a trophy winning team and not just a higher-mid table team like Udinese (no offense) then we need players that are better than just good. Players on our team are not that good any more but were world class a few years ago and thats why they won important titles. We need to get players that are either world class or have the potential to be. G. Rossi is one of the only names I agree with on that list because he is very, very good and has the potential to be World Class. But most others are destined to be good at best.

we will continue to suffer until our management starts thinking seriously about rebuilding, not face lift or few changes, VIVA REVOLUTION!!

this is bigger than Leo. whether he’s good or bad isnt the case now, the problem is who we have playing, just sad. its not pleasant to watch milan games, hurts.

criscito is on course to being one of the best left backs in the world! bocchetti is on his way to becoming world class, nocerino has the potential to be better than gattuso. de silvestri has potential and misuraca has been touted as the sicilian totti.

with your logic k it seems no one is good enough which is ludicrous. team chemistry is more important than having a load of stars.

the only world class players you had in the 07 champions league winning team were kaka, nesta, maldini and pirlo the rest were quality players.

    GF and Milams

I can see your “WTF?” reaction to Leo’s comments about discussion. And to be honest, the dude looks nervous as all hell on the bench during games – not the kind of demeanor that inspires confidence.

At the same time, when you have group of guys that are as experienced as they are in Milan (and as aged), running them more isn’t going to help. Their bodies just can’t handle that. when you get early to mid 30’s, your game becomes more and more mental – it has to be because you simply can’t compete physically with those young guns. Motivation then becomes more important – when you’ve won a shit load already and your joints are creaking, you’re not going to be motivated like that 22 year old who just made it into the first team, and you’ll lose the 50/50 balls.
Hence, discussion, buying into a new (rookie) coach’s philosophy becomes hugely important.

I still think that Milan is capable of getting a respectable finish (CL spot), although I understand that they will simply not be capable of playing beautiful flowing football. But a team of tactical, savvy vets on aging legs can still do well, especially with a solid CB pair and GK. But the key is to believe in the coach. And I think we’re just seeing a team that doesn’t quite take its coach too seriously yet. I think Leo just doesn’t quite know yet how to reach and win the full respect of the Seedorfs or Patos.

Carlo had a great record coming into Milan with Juve and had even played with many of the older Milan players. He had the respect from day 1. Leo is still earning the respect of his team. He’s not a ball buster, or uber-pro like Mourinho, so he’s not going to win ‘em on day 1 or 15. I say give him some time

ronan, I wouldn’t be too worried. I’m Montenegrin and I know our national team well, we have a very good pair of forwards in Jovetic and Vucinic but we concede goals like crazy. In the last game against Bulgaria we were ahead and dominating the field…and then conceded 4 goals out of the blue.

fifaguy – sit down before you read the next bit

we NEED Dorf to play but 2/3 matches on he appears to be on the wane but its either him or Dinho (take your pick!)

Pippo is a MUST (its not really up for discussion) its not like we have 3/4 other strikers who are banging them im at the moment anyway

Pato same as above, no one who is really threatening his starting berth and plus against (no disrespect) lesser opposition he might just kill them down the wings and cutting into the box

    ?

Couldn’t agree more on what you said about Lazydinho (And how you said it!!). Never in my 15 years of watching and supporting have I been more tempted to turn off the game (The only reason i continued watching was to see how good Marco Storari really is).
