It is almost time…
By: Gianfranco | May 1st, 2008
I never get sick of that one.
I can not remember a Serie A derby with this much riding on it for as long as I have been a Milan fan. This is possibly because I have spent the last 5-10 years drinking heavily on Saturday nights rendering Sunday morning games difficult to remember, or because Inter has sucked for so long that when the team played it was a forgone conclusion that despite the score the Red and Black would always come out on top. Nothing has gone as planned this season and this game is no different, a win gives Inter the third straight scudetto (their first semi-real one of the bunch), while a loss makes things a bit tighter at the top. A win for Milan helps keep up the pace for CL football with the Viola and gives bragging rights for a few days if not the whole summer, while a loss puts an end to the hopes of CL football next season and may even spark a rebuilding revolution for the Rossoneri (I won’t address that issue unless I absolutely have to after the game).
We all remember the roll coaster that was the last Derby, and our man on the inside Fetyani was there to live the whole thing and bring back videos of Pirlo’s epic goal. But what started smartly ended poorly putting on damper on the Rossoneri and effectively ending the career of Nelson Dida at the San Siro (one can hope). The antagonist of that game was not the usual suspects of Ibra, Matrix, and old man Figo. Instead it was my new most hated man in the Blue and Black, Esteban Cambiasso. The only thing old Esteban has going for him in my book is the fact that he was man enough to get rid of the three hairs on top of his head,

and go straight bald, a sad state of affairs for the Esteban/Gianfranco relationship.
His right place right time, and perfectly placed shots make me want to gag, and I can’t tell you how many times I have had to stomach his shiny head earning points for Inter. All this Esteban bashing means one thing, Carletto has to sick the snarling dog on him and Rino needs to work his magic and make sure Cambiasso has no impact on this game whatsoever. Heck if you can stop CRon, you can stop Esteban, and Rino is well aware of this.
Inter have been playing hit or miss football since being eliminated from the CL, and the run up to this game is more hit than miss. Mancini has gotten strong smart play from his attack consisting of two unlikely heroes on a team featuring Ibra and Suazo. Let me address Suazo for just a second, because the wound has still not healed. David, is this what you wanted when you said you wanted to “play” for Inter. You have been exposed for being a money hungry striker who cares not about playing time but of collecting his paycheck. Someone had to fill Recoba’s shoes and you my friend are just that man, you would have been a star in the Red and Black working hand in with Pato but instead you are sharing stories and bench time with Hernan Crespo, great choice David, GREAT CHOICE. Phew I got that out of my system, now the strikers who actually play and produce.
The strong play has come out of Cruz and youngster Mario Balotelli who is slowly making a name for himself in the Serie A. The youngster has flashes of greatest but has yet to really show me the strong 90 minute commitment needed in all Serie A games. Either way Cruz, Balotelli, Suazo, or whoever else Mancini decides to throw out there will have to be contained by Nesta and the rest of the defense this weekend.
The key to victory for the Rossoneri this weekend will most definitely be the ability of the strikers to keep the pace that they have set the past two weekends. It also can’t be denied that the success of Pippo and company has been through the help of the midfield, Seedor, Pirlo, and Kaka finally firing on all cylinders and playing the type of football that we are all used to. This is thanks to none other than Rino and Ambro who have dominated the center circle in the past two weeks and really allowed their creative teammates to do the rest. Maybe they were tired, maybe they were out of form but whatever it was back then it has past now and they need to keep moving forward.
I am going to lay off the musings for the next few days because I think the Inter game is enough to think about and worry about for the next few days. The Viola have lost in the UEFA Cup and it was a travesty for Italy as well as FIFA. Instead of a Fiorentina v. Bayern final that everyone was craving we instead have a no name Russian squad versus the Glasgow Rangers. We can only hope that the Viola will be heartbroken and looking past Cagliari this weekend, and drop of points.
I look forward to reading all your thoughts before the derby and look forward to Sunday to as well. If we thought we needed a win in the CL, this is one is for much much more. FORZA MILAN!

Johanna thats great news and look forward to the friendly banter, plus I would consider you to be the evil empire in this case.

Johanna — while I would agree with you about us being the Empire and our Evil Overlord owner being Darth Vader, there is no way, ever, that you will convince me that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is Han Solo.
*puts on Stormtrooper uniform* Forza Milan!

Oh, and, Gianfranco — I’m afraid I have to disagree with you about Cambiasso. I think he’s pretty awesome, even though he’s short, bald, and has a goal celebration that makes him look like a demented chicken. But then, I’m one of those strange rossoneri who are rather fond of Inter, at least until the derby comes round. Better a Milan team at top than Roma or Juve, even if it’s not the correct Milan team.
Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t kick their arses back into hiding on Sunday, though. I heard we won 8-1 in 1918 — how about a repeat of that?

i dont think i can agree with you there Angharad. i dont think i can even say the stuff going in my mind regarding Inter. well i can just say i really do hope to see Moratti get tortured and suffer a painful death
id rather see a serial killer/war lord/ drug lord/ every person who committed any criminal act happy rather than to see Inter just happy, nonetheless win the scudetto.my hate towards them makes them very special to me
OWEH..OWEH..CHI NON SALTA NERAZZURRI!!
even our players dont forget them in our victories
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4WrHC4E7DQmy favorite anti-inter chant, gets me pumped up everytime. especially with the players singing it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0WpNR1tsyECome sempre a inizio stagione
interista fai lo spaccone
lo scudetto la Coppa Campioni
sono sogni per voi coglioni
interista diventi pazzo
son 10 anni che non vinci un cazzo
in trasferta è troppo lontano
non ti muovi mai da Milano
non cantate non caricate
ma allo stadio che cazzo fate
puoi gridarlo finché vuoi
ma Milano siamo Noi!Posted from

ok, i have to talk about this whole gattuso thing. so, again today he told Sky that he wants to play in the epl, and end his career there?! in the beginning of the season he was saying he would play 3-4 more years and end his career with milan. they’ve had one bad year, and might not play in the CL, which i have come to terms with, but he just wants to up and leave cuz of one bad year? playing in the uefa cup wouldn’t be the end of the world; a lot of the big teams (bayern, barca) have done it, and they went back to being in the CL. i mean did he not learn anything from his little ukranian friend? lol even luca toni says he wants to come back to serie a, and he’s doing great in germany. i mean i can’t see rino playing for anyone else, and i might even consider him a traitor if he leaves, after stating over and over his love for milan at the start of the season. they couldn’t even bribe him with the captain’s armband-he said it should go to ambrosini instead.ok, i’ve gone too far into this, lol. but i’m a milanista, and can’t help it. do you guys think he’s really gonna leave?

honestly we cant judge much from the Gattuso issue. and we’re all afraid to say what might happen. sometimes Ringhio just have weird thoughts like the aftermath of istanbul 05. I hope he is the captain in the Derby, after the first rumors came out the fans started the following game with chanting Ringhio chants. i think all he need is a smack in the head, he is suppose to be face of Milan after Maldini. i too dont like to talk about this issue, because we dont know much but hopefully he will stay. and if, god forbid, worst comes ill be very very disappointed in him but nonetheless he served us for 9 years and gave his heart and soul….it hurts just to think about it. Ringhio will forever be our warrior.

FORZA MILAN PER SEMPRE! ALE ROSSONERI!
*waves Milan flag*
Alright. I’m nervous. Incredibly nervous. We all are. I’ve been thinking about this match non-stop. This is the most important derby in a very long time. But I…WE believe in our team. I know we’ll rise to the challenge and put Argentin(TER) in their place…on the losing end! Time for the good guys of Milan to take back this city! This weekend, EVERYONE is a Milan fan (besides those poor poor black and blue folk).
We all know what our team is capable of doing when we’re on fire…Inter won’t be able to take the heat. We know what we have to play for.
Bring. It. On.

.. FORZA MILAN!!God I despise Inter almost as much as everyone else here, I think. I really can’t seem to figure out why someone would like that team. It’s so disgusting.. everything about them.. The players, the team as a whole, the coach, the president, the colors.. BLAH!!
Haha nice one Hana.. Argentin(TER)..

*shakes head* I love Milano, and Inter might be rivals but they’re still family. The kind of family you point and laugh at when they fall down the stairs, maybe, but family nonetheless. I’d rather it be them with the scudetto than the Ultimate Evil of Juve or the Unrelenting Obnoxiousness of Roma.

“I’d rather it be them with the scudetto than the Ultimate Evil of Juve or the Unrelenting Obnoxiousness of Roma.”
I stronglyyy disagree… I have to admit I like Juve.. but of course not in any way like I love Milan, but I still like it when they do well, just because they hate Inter just as much as we do.. But of course, if they’re competiting with us for a position, then hell no.. I don’t think I can ‘hate’ a team with Del Piero in it..
Roma, I was only supporting them against Utd, but any other day, I hate the team.. Totti and De Rossi, as much as they are excellent players, they’re easily hate figures..

hope to god that Bonnie turns out to be our lucky mascot…soooo nervous, am afraid am going to drink myself into a stupor before the game starting about now which is still more than 24 hours away!
have not commented on the gattuso issue because so far just assumed these were rumours but now that he has come out in open saying that he would like to go, i would agree with stephanie - no matter how much we all love him and ok, he’s done a lot for the team in 9 years, but if he so clearly wants to leave, we should let him leave - there is just NO way that ANY player can be bigger or more important than the team…
and seriously, inter over juve or roma, angharad? seriously? even liverpool over inter, man! (couldnt come up with a more hated team!)Posted from

i even have a shirt that says the quite opposite. i bought the shirt from outside the san siro, it has a cartoon picture of a kid wearing a Milan jersey peeing on an Inter one with a caption “io non ho cugino” in english translates to “i have no cousin”. they’re not family just stinky old neighbors.

I am sitting in an internet cafe 15 minute walk from the San Siro. My friend and I walked to the stadium last night, just to show her what it’s like… the second I saw it I remembered just how much is riding on this game. My tickets are arriving in the mail today, until they show up I’ll be nervous about that, but once they do, nerves for the match will take over.
There’s a ton of people at my hostel all going to the match, cars of boys from the south all came up for it. It’s going to be AMAZING.
Oh, and sam, I hope I can be lucky, and just in case, I’m wearing my Gattuso jersey to bring some luck with his situation.
Guys, I am FREAKING OUT. FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Bonnie : i believe you are our lucky charm, and if (God forbid) we lose, I still believe you are our lucky charm for the squad revolution.
Forza Milan!!! Win this one and make it count!
(5 goals win is not enough, we need to score 7 goals, lol, and perhaps make Pippo the Serie A top scorer for this season too!).Posted from

Steph, His talk of wanting to leave to bothers me too, but even as fans we see the problems at Milan. Aging Brazilians, idiot management, and at times lack of respect for players (Gila may suck at times, but he has been shown some disrespect in my opinion). Rino is the type of guy that takes this all in and digests it, and maybe this is where his anger is coming from. For all we know he may hate R10 more than I do and does not want to even be on the same squad as him…
Its a sad state affairs when your future captain may prefer to leave than stay…

how are we going to kill time till then - am trying to keep myself away from the comp but every hour or so am back checking for any updates / news on the match - the team HAS to do this - for themselves, for the fans, for the game!!!

*peeks out of the bucket of ice cream, looks around*
Hi…I did fall in but didn’t drown…oh darn…anyways I wish we could fast forward through the game and know the outcome that milan won and inter lost. But since we can’t I guess I’ll have to bit my fingernails even more.
I barely have any left.Bonnie I hope you bring us luck!

I love how we’re all gunning on Bonnie to get us through this. Whoo, go Bonnie! Take tons of rockin’ pics and videos, okay? We all totally envy you but I’m so psyched to have someone from here repping there! If we’re doing badly…*whistles non-chalantly and gives you a gives you a Matrix voodoo doll*
sam, I so know what you mean! I literally have been on the computer every half hour checking news and banter like I’m possessed.

“The Milan derby is like a Champions League Final.” : Inter chief Massimo Moratti - how would he know?
http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/quotes.html
HAHAHA. Thank you Channel 4! I died laughing when I saw this because this is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read it. What a stupid thing to say. I love how he definitely just owned his team’s life without knowing it.
Honestly, if this is a CL final, I guess we’re good to go then, huh?

Johonna, even if Robert is around, me and Roberto over at the Juve offside are fine with both. It works out well with finals and such that when one of us is too busy, the other isn’t.
It looks like you guys got Flamini, congrats, I don’t know why the fuck we didn’t but he’s top class, and oh yeah, FREE transfer. Good lord. I wonder what it’ll mean for Ambrosini and Gattuso though.
