Kaka could be behind them, then bring on Dinho second half, or something.
In other words, again, team comes first. And the best team to field isn’t necessarily the one with the best players. You need good strategy to win games.
I feel sorry for Zambrotta. The guy is being exhausted.

Oh and the defense was terrible last night. Cagliari could have easily, easily scored. Hope Ancelotti realizes that.
NESTA!!!!!
But I bet you anything he’ll get injured again after 3 weeks or something.

The question regarding the proper use of Ronaldinho is a good one, and perhaps one that Ancelotti is struggling with. Ronnie has never been a defensively agressive player and he’s not going to become one now even if he regains full fitness, although he presumably will start hustling a bit more in the near future. How do you balance this shortcoming with what he can bring to the offense in terms of creative, game-breaking play? Should he be used as a sub and occasional starter per strategic needs? Or are his contributions so valuable that he needs to be on the pitch most of the time, even if it means tweaking the formation so that others are in place to take up the slack for his weaknesses?

Well…that was crap. I was hoping for a better birthday present than that, but that’s what it means to be a Milanista I guess. Get your hopes up after a string of really nice matches, and boom. Let’s decide to draw against Cagliari. Sigh.
Hm. I’m going to against the thoughts of some people here and say that Ronnie didn’t have the best of games compared to his other performances. He had some lovely flashes, certainly, and it wasn’t all his fault since it’s hard to do well when you’re teammates aren’t with you. But he seemed incredibly sluggish to me, a fitness issue. Then again, perhaps this is just a reflection of the team spirit yesterday. I think the only point I smiled was when Ambro tried to, and very nearly put that cheeky lob from midfield in. Or when Kaka’ created some nice chances toward the end with Sheva. It pisses me off when he’s one of the only players actually fighting for anything.
But seriously, Carletto, come on. Duckie is pretty much completely nullified when he’s the lone striker up top. He doesn’t have the presence needed to work solo. Pair him up next time.
Thank all that is good that Acquafresca doesn’t know the meaning of onside, that’s all I gotta say, our defense was left dead.
Is it bad that we go into every international break needing the extra time to patch things up?

Freshwater was doing his best Pippo impression!

Is there a viable formation that can include Ronnie plus two forwards?

fifaguy – i dont see why (wen he’s back to his best) Dino cant play behind the two strikers instead of Kaka?

Avia, I agree, I also think he can play in a system where Kaka is behind the stikers and DInho is off to the left a bit and bit more behind. He can be the middle man between Pirlo and Kaka and give us a new dimension of attack on the left flank. The versatility and options are all there, it just depends who the opponent and what the need of the game is. These are good problems to have, but they are still problems, because the team suffers when not in proper formation.

I can see everyone is on the same page after looking at yesterday’s draw. Everyone except Ancelotti that is.
2 strikers is a MUST…it’s not optional against these smaller teams that’ll stick everyone in the box.
Inter is a team that’ll come after you so you can play with one striker.
Truth is we should have lost that game cause there were two GREAT chances that Cagliari missed that were sure goals.
Ancelotti better make the Christmas tree the exception and not the rule. The quicker he realizes this the better. He’s coming across as a stubborn guy who is a pretty slow learner. And all this is coming at the expense of our team.
2 STRIKERS “A” hole!!!

Thanks, Avia and Giofranco. Who will go to the bench under these scenarios?

whoever has played last or is least fit, it should no longer be an issue of name but of match readyness. It is ok if Seedorf and Dinho are on the bench, it only makes us more dangerous later in the game to bring these players as subs.

I think it is interesting that Berlusconi said that he did not “make the team” that drew Cagliari:
“Che vergogna pareggiare 0-0 con l’ultima in classifica, questa volta non ho fatto io la squadra”.

I am still curious to know how involved Silvio is with formations and tactics. It must drive Carlo nuts.

fifaguy – imo
1. u need to look to choose the most in form players to put out on the field, the bench should be made up players who will also help give u a differenr dynamic should u need it.
If Borri & Pato Do gel like they looked early on, then bench Shev or Pippo.
We actually have a decent bench this season!

…sounds good. ronnie may have to get used to a new “lifestyle” in which he is more of a role player than an automatic starter such as he has been most of his career.

well, except for that last bit at Barcelona – he hardly played at all last year. I think he knows what it is to ride the bench.

……..he has joined a squad with Seedorf, Kaka, Pirlo.
I thought he prob knew that when he signed???
Posted from

…his expectations may have still been unrealistic as evidenced by his previous contentions that he was “fully fit” for the recent Olympics and WCQ’s…

….hmm, but im sure being benched a number of times now and being dropped 4m the national squad (whilst Pato gets in) must be a bit of a reminder?

it should. Ronnie’s explanation of the national team thing was that he told Dunga (who “called”) that he wanted to stay with the club and regain fitness..

Hana, I totally agree with you, I thought Ronnie was crap. But I’m not attacking him, I thought Seedorf, and for the most part, Kaka was crap too. I missed Pirlo like crazy.

Bonnie..got 2 say Piro wasnt exactly on fire before his recent injury?
They all came alive against Lazio & Inter, Rino was a monster but they all sucked last night.
Maybe the took the boat over to Calgiari and got sea-sick pre-match??

Agreed, Pirlo was not on fire, but he was still creating a hell of a lot more than anyone that showed up last night.
I thought Bonera was alright, and I think I enjoyed watching Ambro more than anyone. Truly a match to forget.

Yea must be sea-sickneess.
No, really. It’s obvious there’s a problem with Milan and small teams. And like GF said, the Scudetto is won against small teams; beating Inter and then losing to smaller teams doesn’t mean anything. If you can beat Inter, and Inter can beat the small teams, then logically, you can beat the small teams.
So WTF is Milan’s problem? If things don’t change soon, then there’s no way the Scudetto is Milan’s. They need to look at the weaknesses of the weaker teams, and exploit them.
It has to do with the mentality of the weaker teams. Someone said this already, but it’s worth reiterating; the smaller teams will sit back, defend and hit you on the counter-attack, while the big teams will fight for the 3 points. So, yea, the tactics and approach has to change from team to team.
And I concur with 2 strikers against the small teams!

Against weaker teams, with everyone available:
Abbiati; Zambrotta/Antonini, Bonera, Maldini, Jankulovski/Antonini; Ambrosini/Gattuso/Flamini, Pirlo, Dinho/Seedorf, Kaka; Pato/Sheva, Borriello/Pippo
Against stronger teams, with everyone available:
Abbiati; Zambrotta, Nesta, Maldini, Jankulovski; Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gattuso/Flamini; Kaka, Dinho/Seedorf; Pato/Sheva/Borriello/Pippo
