Avia - U and I are gonna willing to change things up, tweak/tinker with things, and aren't afraid to take risks or try some thing new, even if it flops in the end.

The two striker method functioned great the times we used it. Y we went back to x-mas with Cagliari is beyond me.

Your last 3 paragraphs summed it up. A coach with flair, adventure, & a sense of attack. Ancelotti plays it safe & is defensively minded.

U & I don't drink his kool-aid.

BigDawg4Milan - im with you on that one! I think your not too far off the mark with the idea of Kaka & Dino behind two strikers.

F the xmas tree, every team has "twigged" it and find it easy to counter.

Im wondering if the peeps who favour this formation have forgotten we finished 5th last season???

Everyone and his grandma can shape their team in anticipation of the 4-3-2-1.

Whats the amnesia afflictn sum Milanista?????
We DREW against the BOTTOM club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure we should use it here and there but this idea that any other formation will leave us defensively weak is abit of a nonsense imo.

Its all about switchn from attack when u have the ball and to defend when u dont and that doesnt just mean only the back four. Every player apart 4m the strikers should be workn their butts off to get the ball back.

We did see the last couple of matches that Dino did go back to get the ball whenever we lost possession. Its wat ALL the players (bar the strikers) should be doing!

I watched the recent chelsea matches and Scolari is genius with how he's using (what is essentially) mourinhos squad.

They all out attack when they have the ball and swarm the opposition when they try to win it back.

In the Lazio & Inter match, we were good at pressn the opposition, we doubled up on any player who had possession and got the ball back, in the matches we lost there was no appetite to press the opposition when they had the ball and instead we appeared to wait till they LOST possession as opposed to win it back.

How can anyone argue any other formation would leave us weak when we have Falmini & Rino in our squad!!!! Weak?? We can sit Rino & Flamini in front of our back 4!!

Its what another coach (with any flair, adventure, wisdom, sense of attack) would do.

Our main issue is our back four that leaves us weak WATEVER our formation. If we had a defence like Madrid or Chelsea we could allow our defense to soak up more pressure but we can armour-plate the backline with Flamini & Rino sitting in front with a combo of Kaka & Dino (rotating at will) behind Pato & Shev.

Hell Yeah! :-)

Shehan - Perhaps you're right. Maybe my logic is too simplistic. But I find over complicating things is often just as big of a problem.

In 07 we only had Gila as our fully fit, every day striker (and he was grossly under acheiving, Ronaldo was hurt & Inzaghi is an everyday striker anymore). It also helped that Seedorf & Kaka were playing argueably the best football of their lives.

I did say that x-mas tree SHOULD be used against teams that have talent similar to our own.

But how did we do in 06/07 in our league using x-mas formation.

And that's part of the problem...it's NOT 2007, we don't have the same players, and yet we're trying to use 06/07 tactics with our 08/09 squad.

The make/parts up of our team have changed, it can't be runned as it was in the past.

I agree that i'm going over board with my formation...but its to show that we are faaaaaaar too concervative in attack, and I'd like to see a swing in the opposite direction against smaller teams.

I'll have to side by shehan on this one.

Dinho, Kaka, Seedorf + 2 more strikers is too much.

Shehan, Redondo was a midfielder. Just substitute like this:

Seedorf for Redondo

Gattuso for Simeone

Kaka for Maradona

Pato for Balbo

Borriell/Sheva for Batigol

Dinho for Caniggia

bigdawg, your logic is way too simplistic for football. football is more than just 4-4-2, 4-3-1-2 or the christmas tree. the fact that we've only won '25%' with the christmas tree is irrelevant. football is not based on calculations, its a spontaneous game.

we won the 07 CL with it, how do you fit that into your logic?

i'm not saying you are wrong, but strategies are a bit more deeper than what you are implying.

our biggest strength is our biggest weakness; our mentality. it is as simple as that. formations and everything else are all minor details.

i think the Berlusconi-Ramos rumor from bs.com is....well BS.

if he's in madrid its not because of ramos or madrid, the world economy is getting royally fucked and berlu has a few other things on his mind other than go talk to calderon. and if anything in a case like this the transfer guru will go braida, leonardo and even uncle fester. but its still too early. stupid rumors pisses me off so much.
