A Call for Rational Thought…
By: Gianfranco | May 14th, 2009It is safe to say than in the past few days my frustrations have mounted. It all started with the brash claim of Silvio Berlusconi stating that this season’s failures were on the shoulders of Ancelotti. Now I am fully aware of the fact that in heated moments I too have called for Carletto’s head, but when the owner opens his mouth and not his checkbook, doesn’t this blame gain have an air of lunacy to it? Sure the esteemed opened his checkbook, but for what, Shevchenko and Ronaldinho!? Have these players aided Carletto in his quest for a trophy? Has their purchase made the task of the coach any easier!? Arguable Carletto’s job has been muddled because now he has to deal with the never ending saga of Ronaldinho playing or not playing. Couple this weekly distraction with the notion of keeping Kaka happy while Ronaldinho is on the field, and suddenly standing in Carletto’s shoes seems a lot more of a nightmare than many of us want to make it out be.
The biggest complaint sent the way of Ancelotti has been his tactics. Even the wise old Silvio claims that Milan should be utilizing players who like the ball at their feet. Well first of all if Silvio knew for a moment what he was talking about he would clearly see that the majority of Milan games this season employed players who like the ball at their feet with likes of Clarence, Kaka, Pato, and Ronaldinho featuring. Add the wingback roles of Zambro, Janks, and wing presence of Beckham and puzzlingly you wonder what on Earth could Berlusconi have meant? He meant play my prized Ronaldinho you fool! But lacked the balls to really tell his coach what he felt.
Tactics aside, my biggest concern stemming from the dismissal of Carletto is the void left, which may be impossible to overcome. In 1996 Milan parted ways with the great Don Fabio Cappello who was on his way to Madrid. Fabio of great success, much akin to Carletto, left Milan in the incompetent hands of Oscar Tabarez, a Berlusconi favorite, and usher of the darkest days of Berlusconi Milan history. Not until we welcomed Zaccheroni did we taste success again, and not until Carletto did we experience any form of stability, such that had been missing since Sacchi and Cappello were on the bench. So while many of you call for VanBasten, Leonardo, Rijkaard and others let it be known that these coaches, save Rijkaard to some extent, lack the pedigree and winning mentality that has made Carletto so valuable. Many of you claim a player must be seasoned and tested to earn his time on the pitch yet you quickly are willing to hand the reins of the club to Leonardo who has never coached a day in his life!!? Have we lost our minds!? Of course we haven’t because in the next sentence we are willing to try VanBasten because his failure with Ajax in the Dutch first league which is analogous to Serie B at the moment, is certainly the type of coach I want at the helm.
My call now is not defend Carletto until the last dying minute, but my call is for rationality and an end to this ridiculous notion that an Owner is not to blame for his coaches’ shortcomings, especially when that Owner has a direct charge in the oversight of the club. My call is patience and respect to a Coach that has delivered far more than many in his place, but above all is my call for this horrible notion than any former player can just pick up and manage this Club whose legacy extends far beyond any Brazilian, Dutchmen, or even Italian…

Vittal,
“He never has had control of the players coming into the team. The players are bought and he is asked to deal with it. It is fact that the power of buying and selling of players is not in his hands.”
How do you know? Even supposing what you’re saying is true, does it mean you continue with someone who nonchalantly accepts the players he’s “forced upon”, or do you want someone who stands up to Baldy & Baldy to get the player “he wants”?
I want Ancelotti to leave, but only if we get a suitable replacement for him, and right now I can’t think of any.Posted from

Barca fan here. I just have one thing to say about Rijkaard. His success and barcelona’s success where co-related to Ronaldinho’s awesome form. Yes, football is about 11 players, but sadly Ronaldinho’s form affected the entire team. so how effective rijkaard was for barcelona we will never know. May be it was coincidence that the teams, the coach’s and ronaldinho’s form dipped at the same time, but then again may be not.

R4L, No coach that gets the job especially, Leonardo will stand up to baldy x2, why would he do that when he was picked by them for the job!? It makes no sense, dont bite the hand the feeds, right? As for Carletto his tenure will allow him more leeway to make those challenges as he has done this year, and here is to hoping his “balls” in that regard only get bigger…

JC, I think Dinho’s dip was Rijkaard demise, and then the fall out between once famed coach and has been golden boy was horrific…those two guys owed all their success to each other, now they dont even speak!? Sorry but that is not the chemistry I want near my club. I love that Dinho fanboys want Rijkaard as coach, it is like they selectively forget about the last four months those two were at Barca, do you even think for a minute Dinho would stay if Rijkaard was brought on, or Rijkaard would come if Dinho was unsellable, NOT A CHANCE…

Zito, I dont know how familiar you are with American sports but ownders with big mouths, Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, Al Davis, and Dan Snyder have average franchises with very little to show for their investments. Not only are these idiots the most vocal, but they spend the most cash on players THEY WANT, not what their coaches need…Sure Berlusconi can talk, but it should be rational, and intelligent, none of these distractions and idiotic claims.

I’m very familiar with American sports but all I’m saying is this, regardless if his opinion is right or wrong, he has done so much for the club thus that warrants him an opinion. I’m not asking for Carletto to leave or anything, I’m saying even if what he said is wrong or not, telling him to shut up and open his chequebook is demeaning.

so blaming his coach isnt demeaning? You can’t hold the owner to one standard and the fans anc coaches another. Granted yes he does foot the bill, but he shouldn’t use that to be a moron? It isnt a ticket for him to be an idiot?

Any of you actually heard Berlusconi say what he supposedly said about Ancelotti? One newspaper reported it, well, I don’t know about the standards of that paper, though. Why on earth should he say to tourists in a serious manner that Ancelotti is to blame? Were these tourists Galliani, Leonardo, Tassotti or what?
Unbelievable how quick everyone just jumps on a rumor and almost everywhere on earth it is reported. Now don’t tell me that is proof that the rumor is in fact true. These tourists were probably Chelsea fans or russians who didn’t understand what he was saying, if Berlusconi was ever there anyway. Every stupid article about Milan is citing this now. I’m tired of reading this. In my opinion, in modern football you cannot believe any rumors until they have not been proven with an actual occurence. Have fun arguing about this silly topic!

Some other thoughts:
I guess the words of a man don’t count anything in the world of football. Kaka says I’m staying in Milan. The next ten articles state he is going to Madrid, Chelsea blah, he says again I’m staying in Milan, the next ten articles say he is going to Chelsea with Ancelotti, or to Madrid to Perez, oh no wait a minute, he is going to ManU as a replacement for Ronaldo. Kaka again: I stay at Milan, the next article says Kaka is going to Madrid.
Ancelotti, Galliani: Ancelotti is staying. The next ten articles sate Ancelotti is going to Chelsea and he’s taking 5 Milan players with him (as if it was that easy), he is going to Madrid. Then, article today, Ancelotti stays in Milan.

Zito,he made the one signing of Dinho, when the team was crying for a CB and a striker. And then he complains about Carlo not playing him. Why should Carlo play Dinho, when he never wanted him in the 1st place. Thats why Berlu should stop complaining about Carlo not playing Dinho.

Here is what Ancelotti has to say about it in his press conference:
“ON TOMORROW’S CLASH AGAINST UDINESE
“Tomorrow it will be an important game. The team knows what it must do: we want to reach as soon as possible the three points which will assure us of the mathematical qualification to the next Champions League. From now until the end of the season there are three difficult games and we don’t want to arrive to the match against Fiorentina in need of points. For this reason, we want to win tomorrow.”ON THE TEAM’S MOMENT AND THE FORMATION AGAINST UDINESE
“The team is fine, apart from the two suspended players Favalli and Beckham, all the players are in a good condition for tomorrow.“Dida has recovered, he will play tomorrow. In defence Zambrotta, Senderos, Maldini and Jankulovski. Midfield with Flamini, Pirlo and Ambrosini. Then there are three players for two places: Seedorf, Pato and Inzaghi (Kaka’s place is taken for granted).”
ON THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS
“Nesta started to work in the past week with the team, apart from continuing his specific work. He must still find an acceptable physical condition, but he could play before the end of the season.“Borriello is more behind Nesta and I don’t know if he will manage to work with the team before the end of the season. However, he’s in the recovery phase.”
ON THE SCUDETTO
“The key to Milan’s league for the Scudetto race is in the home game against Reggina which we drew on the eve of the derby and the injury to Kaka. We lost two important points in the standings and Kaka’s unavailability for two months was felt.”ON UDINESE
“Udinese are a team in good form, they are coming from five consecutive wins and found the condition they had at the start of the season. Both Milan and Udinese are two teams who are going through a good moment. They have found back the velocity and quality in their game, a team that starts often counter attacks and takes advantage of the game of its attackers. It’s a very dangerous formation.”ON THE TRANSFER RUMOURS AND HIS FUTURE
“There is no new news to what I said before and there is no Chelsea-Milan issue. There is a lot of fantasy talk, I’m at Milan and I think that it’s a big fantasy and grotesque to think that I can make a transfer market for a club who I’m not tied to. Tomorrow we’ll see what happens, I don’t think that in the case of a win anything will happen, but we’ll see tomorrow. On Sunday I’m free and I can do what I want, actually I will be at my dad’s home to celebrate his birthday. Obviously, at times it’s like I’m living at Big Brother….However it won’t last long because May 31 is close by to everyone and we shall arrive to it quickly.”ON SILVIO BERLUSCONI’S DECLARATIONS
“I think that it’s useless to comment the declarations made by president Silvio Berlusconi or wait for a phone call because yesterday’s denial by the president was quite strong, therefore I believe that there is no need for any comment.“The president had already spoke to Galliani when we were at Tirana and already back then the president had denied. I don’t think that there is the need for a phone call from him to me.
“My rapport with the club is a good one, very warm and affectionate.”
ON THE RONALDINHO’S TRANSFER RUMOURS
“I did not speak to Galliani, but our will is that of holding on to Ronaldinho, but then if the player wants to leave for many reasons, we will evaluate.”ON THE RAPPORT WITH GALLIANI
“With Galliani I have a very strong rapport, very warm. It’s been like this for a long time, it’s an attachment which consolidated in time, now we’re in perfect harmony.”Posted from

So reports are flowing around today that the shiek Al Maktoum from Dubai has bought 35% ownership of the club and has inserted a clause saying he can complete a full takeover within two years.

Berlusconi, has on a number of occasions questioned the tactics of Ancelotti. I agree that as the owner who foots the bill he has a right to expect certain things from his team. Wouldn’t you want to own your favourite team filled with your favourite players? As far I feel, I think Ancelottis greatest talent is to ignore Berlusconi and continue doing his thing. I don’t see management removing Ancelotti. He’ll either leave of his own accord or he just see out his contract.

He doesnt want to keep him, it is his way of politely saying we are shopping him…no coach would come out and publicly state he wants a player gone, let alon a player that the owner seems to love as much as some of you. It is the “politcally” savy thing to say, translation, “we are listening to offers.”

1st of all, Berlusconi is a politician, and according to my Italian friend, a not very smart politician, who often say stupid things (this is just an example).
Secondly, Ancelotti deserves more credit than criticism (unless we lost next 3 games and position 4 next CL). We all criticize him a lot, it’s always the easiest thing to do … Given the squad and injures, we should admit what we are now is pretty a good position.
It is really NOT difficult to fire a good coach, it is to find one.
