Tuesday Milan Musings
By: Gianfranco | April 1st, 2008ON A SIDE NOTE: I was going to make an April Fools post today, but then I realized that someone at goal.com might read it and consider it the truth. That would leave me feeling pretty bad so instead…
Let’s Talk Strikers…
Pato will be here next year, and for better or for worse so will Pippo. (I imagine Pippo’s role to be limited and more of a teacher than anything else so lets move on shall we.)
Gila: Many of us here feel that Gila’s time at Milan has run its course but I would like to shine some light on the situation, and make a case for Gilardino to stay in the Rossoneri shirt. Gilardino’s stats this season show 20 starts, 9 subs in with 7 goals (all away from home) and 3 assists in the Serie A. He is 9 goals in 8 assists if you include Champions League games as well. Another stat, which may be inaccurate by a game two shows, that when Gila starts Milan typically do not drop points, and when he is subbed in the game is usually a lost cause. With this being said, Gila’s play is actually benefitting Milan in terms of winning games, his holding style helps Pato get into space and his assists have been very welcomed to an offense that hasn’t really blazed the goal scoring trail this season. Keeping Gila may be in our best interest and if Carletto leaves, his staying becomes extremely important.
Trezeguet: Yes you read that right; the newest rumor coming from the boot is that Trez will come to Milan if Gila goes to Juve. Honestly, I would prefer Iaquinta who is also a possibility in this regard. But I am not sure Juventus will want to make this kind of move to a direct rival, I am also not sure if Trez would be OK with that type of move. He has been know to throw hissy fits when being linked with moves out of Turin. Another issue with Juve is the camaraderie and bond that the team shares with the nucleus that went to Serie B together, if I was Secco I would not want to break that outfit up, would you? They smoked Inter on Sunday and that type of play is only a sign of things to come with that squad.
Borriello: For some reason Marco does not get the respect I feel he deserves here at the AC Milan offside. This guy has 17 goals in Serie A and he is doing against all competition, not just the Cagliaris and Empolis of the world. This kid is scoring against Inter and Juve all the same. He also has a nice bite to his playing style that really lacks at Milan, and his season at Genoa has shown me that he can hack it in Serie A. I want him back and if you better think really good and hard as to why, if you feel he does not belong on this squad.
Paloschi: He is certainly talented, but I do not see him in the future of the Rossoneri. A loan may benefit Paloschi a ton because constant first team football will only make him better. I just had a discussion with Marco of the Livorno Offside, and quite frankly I saw raw talent in Paloschi, but he needs a lot of work. His comparison to Pippo is a bit unwarranted, but a bit of Beppe Signori is not all that far off.

Now I want to a talk a bit about the Striker pool that can come to Milan (I mentioned Trez above because he was directly linked to Gila). I will also spare the Drogba lovefest, because we all know how I feel already.

Zlatan: He is a cancer to any clubhouse, and his time at Inter is waning thin. Is the risk worth the reward? I want him, how bout you?
Eto & Henry: Barcelona has a wealth of striker talent and I believe the Rossoneri could do them a favor and take one of their hands. I prefer Eto.
Santa Cruz: He is really bagging goals at Blackburn, 14 to be exact. RomaChris loves him almost as much as I love Drogba, so better us than them. The problem is Galliani supposedly has a gentleman’s agreement with the folks at Roma and transfer targets are supposed to be respected. What happens when their targets are better than ours?

Berbatov: A Carling Cup victory and 13 EPL goals make this guy an impressive target. He is also a bit off the top tier radar but a strong finish will make this guy a very hot commodity.
Villa: He is good yes, but can he make a living in Serie A?
Feel free to add in anyone that you feel I have missed, or warrants a bit of discussion. I chose to leave out guys like Sheva (we have discussed at length) Amauri, and Benzema (long contract in place) so we can focus on some different guys.

I forgot to add that Oliveira is coming back. Isn’t he?
Podolski could be a cheap solution…

I know Santa Cruz is probably a flash in the pan, the exact reason I don’t want Borriello back, but I love his style so I make an exception.
The more I think about it, I really think Gila leaving would be best for him and Milan. He’s got talent, that’s not the issue (for myself, atleast), he just doesn’t fit the Milan system. Plus I think selling Gila is the only way we’re going to buy someone else, otherwise they’ll give us the old “we have Pato, Gila, Paloschi, Pippo and Ronaldo when he’s better, we have SO many strikers” crap they’ve been trying to feed us all season.

Berlu said today or yesterday that he would resign Ronaldo if it was up to him, this just goes to show the lack of knowledge on his part in relation to his team and football in general. For a guy who has been an amazing owner his lack of current knowledge is beginning to really show in his comments.
As for Borriello and Santa Cruz being flashes in the pan it is harder to believe because of their real lack of chances to play first team football. Both guys have finally gotten their chance, with no pressure, to truly succeed. Who is to say, given the same amount of playing time they would not succeed at Milan. What did Gila in, in my opinion, is the lack of confidence. Imagine going to work day in and day out and not knowing if you were going to be given a fair crack…its not an enviable spot.

Gilardino has been given a fair crack for a very long time and by the look at it, his performances - in terms of his goal scoring - seem to be deteriorating each season. I totally agree with you that he has the ability to hold the ball, provide assists and such BUT he’s made to score, at least do something akin to what he’s been doing at Parma. Frankly, for his sake Gilardino should leave.
And Berlusconi & Co. should really strive hard to look for a new replacement in the form of Eto or Drogba or someone (see, I sound desperate here) who’s a deadly poacher in the box! Today, Galliani said something about Milan fans easily forgetting what they’ve achieved last season. Well, Mr. Galliani, I’ve been supporting Milan for 20 years now and I know how it feels to be on the high and low tide. He should not patronize us by saying that. Admit that Milan is going through a crisis now, and the rumors of buying players that are almost on the wrong side of 30 are just plain stupid! Get the right players on the pitch, Milan needs to ride high again. We’re Milan. We do not need excuses. We need changes.

Goal.com is reporting that we are only days–possibly hours away from signing Zambrotta. The source is Contracampo.I have no idea whether its a reliable source .

dont forget amauri..

LF, you make a great point. The sporting director’s job is not to make me remember the good times, his job is to put the most competitive product on the pitch. Controcampo has been reliable in the past, but the Zambro is all over so it is hard to tell where they got it…

Good strikers for milan also include: Guiseppe Rossi, Fabio Quagliarella, Frederik Kanoute, and maybe Giampaolo Pazzini??

Cinema&, Pazzini for Gila is a sure possiblity because Prandelli and Gila are bestmates, but the likelihood of Milan accepting and playing Pazzini are not likely with the way things currently stand…

Aside from the future strikers, I’m more worried about Pirlo right now, Don’t you think he looked like he needs two or three games rest.

Malih has brought up the most important subject that we should be concerning ourselves with: pirlo.
pirlo’s form isnt about tiredness (atleast i dont think), he doesnt have any rhythm out there.
WE ARE SUCKING BECAUSE PIRLO IS SUCKING.
in terms of our gameplay, pirlo = milan.
pray for pirlo should be our new slogan.
so my brethren in red and black, please, let us pray for pirlo.

In the French press, Milan have been linked with Coupet.
Surely you guys can do better? Though anyone is better than Dida imo.

Inara, we CAN do better-the question is WILL we do better? I have a bad feeling that signing a class keeper is pretty low priority to the Milan heads right now.
Malih, seriously good point. Kaka’s injury and Seedorf’s injury followed by bad form have really taken a tole on Pirlo, it seems awful that even a terrible Pirlo is better than no Pirlo. I think it is tiredness, but more mental than physical.

well i watch la liga and diego alves is a very impressive keeper. 22 yrs old. went 678 mins without conceding a goal and he had no top class defence ,just average almeria

man… Galliani is really starting to PISS ME OFF!!
..milan are the most successful club..we won the champions league…we are world champions… SHUTUP!!!
And fricken do something about the current situation and stop hiding behind the past!!!anyways.. on a side note, i believe in gila and do hope he stays. Although there would need to be a major change in the way home milan fans see him.
also i wouldn’t mind some fresh striking skill, i think what we need is someone fast, with good accuracy and maybe a bit of skill to top it off (stating the obvious)

Pirlo since September of 2005 has really had very little time to rest, recharge, and take time away from the pitch. Granted last summer the load was a bit lighter than normal, but not all that much with qualifiers and such. His performance in the WC06 was stuff of legends and that has to be hard on you both physically and mentally. Last year’s Milan season was the most draining for fans and probably players as well due to the point deduction, and pile on the stressful Azzuri games, and the World Club Cup and you are looking at a guy who has been run down the last thread of energy.
Pray for Pirlo is right, and add Rino in too…

Galliani in ‘Dinho dinner
Milan are once more being linked with unsettled Barcelona star Ronaldinho after Vice-President Adriano Galliani met with the Brazilian’s agent. The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year has completely fallen out with Barça and wasn’t even in Frank Rijkaard’s Champions League squad against Schalke.
Although he is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2010, ‘Dinho will almost certainly leave the club in the summer.
Milan President Silvio Berlusconi had been determined to lure the 28-year-old to San Siro, but seemed to have gone cold on the idea recently.
However, Galliani met Ronaldinho’s brother and agent Roberto Assis and market consultant Ernesto Bronzetti for dinner yesterday after a three-month hiatus and rumours suggest that the hunt may be back on.
It has been suggested that it would take around £12m to sign ‘Dinho and that the former PSG man would be willing to take a pay cut from his current £5m salary per year.
The fee would be a considerable reduction on the £30m quoted this time last year, but there is still the possibility Ronaldinho could use FIFA Article 17 to escape Barça.
Article 17 allows players to buy out their contract at a club as long as they are at least 28 and have spent three years at a club.
While Galliani’s meeting with Assis may have been to discuss Ronaldinho, it is equally likely that they were talking about Ricardo Oliveira, who is also a client of Assis.
The Rossoneri-owned hitman has been on loan to Real Zaragoza and has impressed with 11 La Liga goals, but the Spaniards seem unwilling to invest £10m to make the deal permanent.
Can anyone say we are royal screwed?
KILL ME NOW!!! JUST PLEASE TAKE ME NOW I CAN’T TAKE ANOTHER 5 MONTHS OF THIS BULL CRAP…
I want young good players not old suckish ones!

First of all Oliviveria’s 11 goals nothing to go by in la liga, he has not even scored against the big clubs, and his goals are all rubbish goals. He can stay where he is for all I care.
The ‘dinho deal to Inter seem very near and well worked out and was reported by a lot of reputable sites such as Sports Illustrated so I am tending to lean on this rumor to be just a rumor, but I rule nothing out this season. It seems nothing can go right this year for the Rossoneri…

T-rez is not leaving, that rumor is laughable. Our management isn’t dumb enough to swap Gila for Trez. Nothing against Gila, I think he has enormous talent, but Trez is a class above.
And as a Juventino, why would you want Zlatan? First, he’s proved he has no loyalty whatsoever, which would be furthered if he switched from Inter to Milan. Second, he’s not that great of a goalscorer. Something like 1/2 his goals this season have been penalties. Third, he hurts team morale a la Cassano or Adriano. He’s a prima donna. And lastly, he’s a huge choker. Yeah, I hate him, but even his fans can’t deny he’s choked bigtime in the CL for Juve, and now Inter, as well in big games. Chiellini, who was in Serie B last year, and Legrottaglie who hasn’t played regularly in 4 years both successfully marked him out of two derbies this season. Cruz and Suazo were much more threatening than him.

and also rossi from villareal,11 in just 17 appearances. he is really good oliviera should be offered to the yellow submarine because hs says he wants to play thier. and we could get rossi as a piece of the deal but i don’t think man united will be willing to sell as they own 50% of the players interest.
