State of Affairs: Attack
By: Gianfranco | May 29th, 2008I am going to take a state of affairs for each position at Milan and then hopefully onto a state affairs for Serie A and UEFA.
Attack…
This is where everything seems to be up in the air. Pato and Pippo are staying on, but after that it is tough to tell what exactly is going to happen. Gila appears as good as gone to the Viola and one has to wish him luck and thank him for the goals that helped the Rossoneri cause. I will say that the thought of him reunited with Prandelli and Mutu is terrifying for me and for the Serie A but if it means he regains his form and returns to the Azzurri then more praise to him.
Paloschi is on the road to Reggina on loan, which will assure him first team football and possibly second the Borriello miracle at Genoa. Oliviera is officially off the books and Ronaldo, one would think, is soon to follow. That leaves Milan with a depleted bench of strikers and the need to sign more than one and fast.
When contemplating future strikers for the Rossoneri, I believe it is important to look at it in two different lights, or formations. The first being the Carletto xmas tree. As we all know the striker in the xmas tree must be versatile and capable of not only retaining the ball, but beating a man off the dribble, and making themselves a target on set pieces. Pippo was capable of this, but with age comes a reduction in skills and can no longer be the focal point or star atop the tree. Pato, in my opinion, is also not cut out for this even though his skills say otherwise, Pato is a classic partner striker who creates as well as he scores, and I believe will not see full potential all alone up top. It does not mean that Pato is not valuable or fantastic; it just means that he will need a partner, but we will address that later.
So who is the man to top off the xmas tree. For me it has to be one of the big three Toni, Drogba, or Adebayor. The most available being Drogba but depending on the Euro performance Toni may be swayed back to Italy, but it is highly unlikely. Adebayor is flattered by the praise and desire but also looks unlikely to move. This means that Milan may have to act fast on Drogba, but could lost out once again to the wrong side of town depending on who their coach is next season.
Eto is also a very intriguing player but I see him as more of a partner for Pato, with the ability to act alone. Borriello, if returned home, will also make a great partner for Pato and a great striker pair for the future. It again depends on the formation and supporting cast. Another player that intrigues is Amantino Mancini. It appears that Mancini had a falling off of form and may have played his last game in the capital. Though he is not a true a striker, he is very much in the same mold as Serginho and capable of any play on the left flank. This makes him all the more valuable and potential for great things; imagine he can play next Pato, Kaka, Pirlo, or Paolo/Kaladze…almost a no brainer.
A few more dark horses are Berbatov and Santa Cruz, with both unlikely to move, but both excellent players looking to make a jump to the big time. Both of them can play in a partnership and would be great additions to the striker pool at Carletto’s disposal. As you can see this matter is far from settled and one of the most exciting transfer spots in a long time at Milan…
Enjoy some of those guys together in action.
ON A SIDE NOTE, Amrosini has celebrated a Birthday, and thanks to Nina of commenting fame we have this video to smile at and honor my Milan MVP.

If possible it would be best to terminate Dida’s contract, its sad really because he is going to eat up a spot occupied by Fiori. On a side note, Galliani should take note of the Viola when it comes to assembling strikers: Osvaldo, Mutu, Gila, & Pazzini. Good mix of age and skill, and very capable of playing the Viola’s full slate of games of next season. Mutu and Gila are a scary mix.

thats what Milan was hoping for but they cant force him. so he’ll live in a nice city and get paid around 4-5 million euro for the next 2 years if he wants, even if it means taking it easy and sitting back.
Viola will be deadly next season, i can see them doing well in the CL and Serie A.
we dont know everything going on but hopefully by now our staff know exactly who do we need to get, especially in the defense. Matri & Di Gennaro are no longer Milan players, Matri to Bologna & Di Gennaro to Cagliari.

Fetyani, I would like to believe that the Viola will do well in CL but I dont think they have the experience necessary to win those gritty games. They will be a force domestically though, and most likely play some very pretty football in the process. I dont get a guy like Barzagli going to Wolfsburg to do nothing, and turn down a chance at great football at Firenze, they are a defender away from being a very good team.

I thought Di Gennaro went to Genoa( on loan) as part of the exchange deal involving Borriello. We just need 1 big name striker now. That player has to be our star signing for the summer.

Mancini cannot play along the whole left wing…
he was just moved to the left wing because we had no wingers, he is naturally a right sided player, starting in defence and moving his way up untill playing even on the left wing now…
he is primarely a winger and might be able to play as a wingback but his defending SUCKS

I think Sheva is gonna head back to Milan. This will give some much needed depth in striking options to Carletto.
Let’s see if the Dinho deal goes through but if it doesn’t, I think Mancini is a very good player to have. He’ll give Ancelotti more tactical flexibility in the attacking department.
Borriello, Pato, Inzaghi, Sheva, Kaka and Dinho/Mancini should be adequate a strike force for a successful assault on the scudetto and Uefa cup.

some bad news.
Belrusconi Jr:
-Milan wont spend big.
-Drogba’s price tag is fairy tales.
-Sheva will only come if for free.while on the other side of the city, the shit side. Inter want to spend 75 million. they have Lampard, Eto’o & Deco in their plans.
*stays calm for a bit longer*

Why the hell cant we get Huntelaar. He wouldnt mind playing in the UEFA Cup for a year.
Also,we cannot sign Mancini. He may be ok,but there are many better players out there.Posted from

Fetyani, we’re not gonna spend anywhere close to that figure. and the only person i see coming out of the 3 you called is eto’o. so you could stay calm for a lot longer than you expected to

Where the hell is all our money going if the management is crying limited budget??
Havent we just made 20+ mill on the Gila & Olivera sell offs??
The simple fact is that we need a “battering ram” type of striker to replace R99, this will be best served by Drogba or Shev as they also have CL experience.
I would like to say Eto but the way its going i think the merda have a better chance of signing him than we do.
Gian - you also have to bear in mind that there is a(albeit slim) chance that Carlo may not be at the helm next season therefore the formations (and players who would suit) maybe open to change?
Also, why keep a hold on Dida if it eats into our “limited budget”?

I’d like to see Berbatov at Milan.
Yet, I think that playing at UEFA is not a disappointment for this team. Everything has its ups and downs. By having a good form, Milan can progress in UEFA and in the Calcio at the same time.Posted from

Avia you are preluding my next post…and i like the idea of a battering ram.

my vote is still for santa cruz but if borriello can gel easily with pato we will be all right r99 should go on loan to a brazilian club and we should go after hunteelar or eto’o for added debt.

Milan have been trying to terminate Dida’s contract and/or sell him for the last six months, but he isn’t moving and no one is interested in taking on his salary. He risks becoming the Brazilian Winston Bogarde.
The story here is that Barzagli is making twice as much at Wolfsburg as he would have made with the Viola. An extra 1.5 million plus a year tends to influence most people’s decision making.

I never thought of Shevchenko as a battering ram type of forward. I thought that description was reserved for the likes of Vieri, Drogba etc.

A - Check out some of Shevs goals on youtube.
Def a battering ram!
I still feel that after Shev left, he was never truly replaced with a like for like player.
Samuel - you might be right first time, with the management crying poordum, we might have to break the bank to land Eto!
At least Shev we can get cheaply.

Milan are such CHEAPOS!
We sold Sheva for 30 mil last year and got Pato for 15.. so that’s +15 mil in the budget.. and then sold Gila for 14 or so, and Oliviera for a few more so that should be at least +30 mil euro’s in the budget from transfers..
Don’t they allocate a certain amount of money for transfers each year? (regardless of whether they sell players or not)
It doesn’t make sense, but I’m still waiting to see..
BTW, on a side note, a good young defender is Cricsito..

Moka -(wor) to the (d)!
Wat would make me REALLY happy tho…………..
IF Carlo did leave, then we snatch Mourinho in a last minute agreement right under the merdas nose!
That would be soooooo sweet! (But day by day i kno this scenario is unlikely).

i would KILL to see Toni come to milan!

I wouldn’t mind Lippi.. I still love you Ancelotti tho.. but wtf were you meeting with Abrahimovic for? :O
Toni is wishful thinking.. He’s a monster, but I think he works best with 2 wingers to cross him the ball..
Huntelaar would be sweet like someone mentioned but I think Utd are gonna snap him up..
and F.. Barzagli.. He’s bloody good.. I wanted him at Milan!

and OMG Borriello missed the easiest chance in the world..

I hope Borriello lives up to his own hype. I know he’s demanding to be the first choice forward, which I don’t mind as long as he is actually scoring. If Milan has spent all that money on him and he plays the way that he did last time he was there, I think I’ll be ill.

what the f with Boriello in the italy game, is he gonna be next Gilardino@Milan?

That’s a weird birthday song, man.
I can’t really comment on the transfer thing. I didn’t like Gilardino but selling him to partner Mutu at Fiorentina? While the other teams are going for the ‘big names’ (no need to mention), Milan are taking back Boriello, got another 30-yr old defender in the form of Zambrotta, secured the service of Flamini and then…? I just can’t understand our transfer policy.
