Serie A Season Preview
By: Gianfranco | August 28th, 2008Let’s do a little Serie A preview “back to school” style with some yearbooks superlatives:
Most Likely To Succeed
Cassano is the player for me, while Napoli is the team. Cassano
will have a full year under his belt this season with solid training and team chemistry the sky is the limit. Napoli has only added players and with strength in the back with the addition of Maggio this team will have the ability to scare some of the big clubs early and often. Roma beware week 1 Napoli is ready to make some noise.
Best Dressed (In Defense)
This is a tough one because Serie A is a league built on defense, but when Juventus is healthy in the back this title goes to them. Start with Gigi in net and then throw Chiellini, Legro, and Mellberg in front of him and you have team with the ability to really defend the box.
Best Personality
Love him or hate him, Jose Mourinho is good for Serie A. His brash style, straight forward delivery are a welcome addition. I just hope he is on the losing side more often than not so we can hear him make excuses week after week.
Most Outgoing (or “going out”)
Adriano was the Serie A party Emperor, and Ronaldo was right behind him with his troop of transvestite hookers, but the new kid Brazilian kid on the block, Ronaldinho has been known to dabble in the nightlife as well. I read an article just a few days ago saying that at Barcelona last season Dinho went out every night for something like 3 months with not breaks or rest. He better go from most outgoing to most studious very fast if he wants to last at the San Siro.
Most School Spirit
If you team is your school no one has more spirit than the legend Paolo Maldini. 24 seasons and most likely his last, Totti and ADP have nothing on the one club hero who has not only won almost every trophy out there, but has finished second on each of those trophies as well. That’s a legend…
Most Talkative
This was a role strictly ruled by Rino Gattuso, but coaches like Ranieri and Spalletti are making a push by running their mouths about anything and everything. I am sure this will get even more hotly contested in the coming days.
Best Couple
So many choices: Gila and Mutu, Gila and Prandelli, Dinho and Kaka, ADP and Amauri, Trez and Amauri, Mourinho and Zlatan, Quaqs and Toto, Totti and Whining, the list can go on for days. But for me the couple with the most potential, most electricity and best history has to Gila and Mutu. From their days at Chievo Verona and then Parma, both men had success together and the ability to go it all again. I personally like the combo and wish them best, just not anywhere near Milan.

SEASON PICKS
TOP SCORER: Amauri – to many people feeding this guy for it not to happen.
SCUDETTO: Juve – good depth, strong coach, and an early CL exit will really help their cause.
CL: Bayern – a very strong team, with very little competition domestically should make them a formidable opponent against the EPL thugs.
UEFA CUP: Milan – have to give us some love, and would love to see Paolo hoist a trophy in his last season.
SURPRISE OF THE SEASON: Napoli – I am calling a top four finish alongside Juve, Milan and Inter
BIGGEST DISSAPPOINTMENT: Roma – weak transfer campaign, Serie A back at full strength may leave Roma the odd man out.
RELEGATION SQUADS: Calgilari, Reggina, and Lecce

sam,
its on the official site from Carletto’s press conference.
http://www.acmilan.com/NewsDetail.aspx?idNews=71619
“Abbiati has proven continuity and tomorrow he will be the start. The other players who will surely play against Bologna are Zambrotta, Kaladze, Maldini, Jankulovski, Flamini, Pirlo, Ambrosini and Seedorf.”

I just cant wait for the first match!
Fet – u even have me dreamin bout Milan!
Had a dream where we had a teamed pinned into their own penalty box and we were all over them (dont know who it was we were playing) but Shev was causing the defence a ton of probs, so i for one am hoping it was a premonition!?
I just wana get behind the team now, my only real disappiontment is that we still have Favalli & Emerson, but considering who we got shot of and who we have brought in, im pretty happy overall.
I reckon we will probs hav a choppy start to the season (so wats new?) but once the team have learned to play alongside one another and once all the injuries are clear we should be rockin!
FORZA MILAN!!!

Alright Avia, and fet! You guys are even dreaming about tomorrow’s game! Any premonitions as to what the final result will be? I’m usually pessimistic about opening games, but for some reason I feel we are gonna start off on the right foot!

I hope we see Carlo blood the two Uruguayians this season (fingers crossed the idea occurs to Carlo also!).
Inzaghi, Pato, Seedorf, Shevchenko & Ronaldinho have all been listed as available for tomorrows match on the offical club site.
I kinda hoping this takes the pressure off of Pato as it would be to easy to hammer the kid with matches week in and week out.

yah Pato needs to rest a bit, and Carletto must take good care of him and doesnt overplay him or make him a bench warmer. Milan already sent him to Costa Smeralada in Sardegna, lucky him.
i say tomorrow 3-0 or 3-1. Pippo, (Pirlo or Dinho) and Sheva. San Siro will be heavenly tomorrow or more precisely in 13hrs

Ten thousand years later…Nina, it wasn’t a problem. People like him amuse me. Haha, and we gotta stick up for our own.
I’m very excited and optimistic for tomorrow. Cautious, but optimistic. I’m a tad confused though…what are Bonera and Borriello “suspended” for?
Forza Milan Per Sempre!

Bonera is still suspended from the red card late in the season, I forget the team (Juventus/Inter), I believe he got five games for that tackle which takes him right up to this one. Borriello, however, I have no idea why he was suspended.
As for SerieA.tv it was supposed to be back up today! No idea whats wrong…

I think it was Juve,a tackle on Sissoko, but like Gian,i have no clue what is MB is suspended for.
Serie A tv is driving me crazy! The season has already started and their site is still under construction!Posted from

Mm, thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I remember that tackle. He got 5 matches for it? Ouch. It was pretty terrible tackle though, and he was having a really good run of games up until then too. Oh well. Here’s to hoping he comes back ready and raring to go.
Er…seriea.tv chose a really bad time for rehabilitation, that’s all I have to say. Crappy streaming until then since I don’t get FSC…lovely.

TOO EXCITED!

My prediction, based on called-up players is 3-0..

anyway boriello is injured right? BTW, since he is injured, we anyway wouldnt have called him for this match so does the suspension count in this match as well?
ya, things looking good so far – man u get smashed, inter draw (BTW, nina did u notice how till samp’s equaliser, jose was doing the major cool dude act and not getting up from the bench, but after the goal, he was all over the sidelines, gesticulating, arguing with the referees – season would have been no fun with a cool jose!), just wish liverpool had got knocked out of the champions league….AND i go on a sabbatical for 4 months starting this week – life is good and just pray that milan make sure that it stays this way…
