Rounding up the Targets…
By: Gianfranco | June 19th, 2008These are players who played in the group stage of Euro 08 that we have discussed as real or wishful transfer rumors…
Benzema: Still young which doesn’t jive well with Professor Domenech. When he did play however he didn’t really impress me all that much. No offense to the French Ligue but success their does not always instantly translate into big game success internationally, Benzema will come along but as for a move to Milan I don’t really see it in the cards. Arsenal is my bet and if that is the case this kid will shine.
Boruc: The Polish GK was a beast against Austria, but Milan has already deemed him out of their price range. A new GK will come but probably not this transfer season, Boruc is still young though and will certainly remain on Fester’s radar for sometime to come.
Gomez: For me, forget Gomez, and focus on Podolski. Gomez was a complete failure in the first round in my book. If anyone is going to leave Germany to come AC Milan that man should be Podolski. I find this move a bit of a stretch because Klinsmann loves his Germans and I expect Podolski to get a fair shake in Bayern with the man that made him a star in WC06.
Ibra: I still have a nagging feeling that Ibra and “The Special One” will not get along on the dark side of town meaning there is no reason why a legit bid can’t be placed for the giant Swede. I know he is a bit of a controversial character at times but his hybrid abilites make him a perfect partner alongside Kaka and behind the star striker in the Xmas tree formation.
Veloso: Young and not typically considered in Scolari’s winning eleven he would make a nice addition to Milan for depth in the destroying midfield role. Already had CL experience and it will only be a matter time before he is fighting Fernando Meira for a place in the Portuguese eleven. Reminds a bit of Ambro with a bit more touch and offensive ability and if Milan is looking for youth this a great place to start.
Villa: I have talked about this guy in the past, and many of you have as well. His time at Valencia is coming to a close and he is probably craving big club football. This tournament has proved as showcase and testament to his ability and one can imagine that each goal he nets is raising his transfer fee. Much like Ibra his hybrid abilities make him very versatile and attractive as a striker, or in a more retreated role. His age is a perfect fit for Milan blending experience with exuberance. I would gladly welcome him over any other striker in the sights of Fester, even my main my DDrogs, yes I SAID IT.

you’re all on podolski while he’s on the mark, but it was gomez who had a great season, not podolski…
judging either way on tourney that is just a FEW games rather than a season that is MANY games is just flat out ignorant…I think most, not all, on this Milan page value the glitz and glamor rather than true football intellect. And Ibra to Milan? I know that he is fickle, but that is more ridiculous than goal.com and tribalfootball combined

KJ for me Podolski did not get a fair shake at Bayern at all, he played so rarely and had no faith from his coach despite great performances at WC06 and the season after.
Also KJ the reason I said wishful rumors earlier was so that we could put a player like Ibra on the list.

I think villa will make a move to barca

I don’t understand why Milan officials are being so blind. Why not make a move for Quagliarella, G. Rossi, Pazzini, Aquafresca, etc? Why did we not make a legitimate move for Eto’o? Its impossible to deal with English sides these days because they inflate the price of their players so drastically. There is NO way Adebayor is worth anything more than 20.5 million euros.
And then there’s the fact that we’ve done nothing to address our central defense issues (surely Nesta and Kaladze won’t be our centrebacks forever?), we’ve done nothing to address our keeper issue (Kalac or Abbiati as No. 1’s?), and whether or not Veloso arrives won’t help add a creative player to our midfield. Ancelotti should have given Gourcuff a chance. Our midfield looks good defensively, but there is no creativity aside from Pirlo, and he can’t do it alone.
Oh well, here’s hoping Borriello and Pato were not one season wonders. We’re gonna need them.Posted from

What’s also frustrating is that Milan is so reluctant to spend money on transfers due to high prices. Yet ManU and Chelsea have a combined debt of 1 BILLION pounds! It’s true, read it in the “Times”. How can ManU and Chelsea manage to keep bringing in players while Milan, who only has a debt of 20 million euros, is so scared to move in the market? Things would be much easier if Serie A clubs were allowed to own their stadiums (thereby making a profit off attendance), and if those stupid EU rules were removed. Only in Italy do clubs have to meet a certain number of posistions alloted to non-EU players. Its truly ridiculous, mainly because it’s a self-inflicted wound upon Italian clubs.

I think the whole reason over the non-eu players is to try and keep football homebased…prided in the fact that most of the players are from that same country where as over in the EPL there is minimal if any that originate from that country

i hope that everyone at this page is checking the pippo blog at the offside - good show from penny…the only MILAN player who has his own blog here…

JP - agree with wat you are saying apart from the EU rule.
We dont wana end up like a United Nations meeting ala Arsenal (or Inter - snigger!).

LOL…a United Nations Meeting ^^^

JP, clubs are allowed to own their own stadiums. It’s just an expensive investment up front. Juventus does, and goddamn I can’t wait to see the new one, plans look awesome. The Delle Alpi sucked.
I hope they don’t auction the name, name it Stadio degli Agnelli or something.

ale, will there actually be Juve fans that show up then?

I did see Penny’s blog, its great.
As for the EU slots, its a good way to keep the talent strong in Italy, and a great point by RO. Milans lack of intelligent scouting is what makes me the most crazy, its like the scouts look in the newspaper for the biggest names, what happened to the days of nurturing talent like Kaka and Sheva, does everything have to be prepackeged and ready to score!?

KJ, one would hope. It is difficult to describe how awful the Delle Alpi was. Cool-looking, but the worst stadium I have ever been in regardless of sport or country.

Milan = cheap..
Always have been, always will be.. Don’t get too excited..
I’d rather they keep their mouths shut and not get anyone than for them to open their mouths, get us excited, then tell us sorry, we can’t get anyone..

Moka - i dont know about the cheap bit coz i do remember when Milan used to be a sledgehammer when it came to signings.
But you sum up EXACTLY how i feel with your last comment.
1. Galliani says Milan own the transfer market!
2. Says we have 40Mill to spend on a striker
3. We are linked to Dino at Barca
4. We are linked to Eto’o, Shev, Drogba and Adebayor
5. Then starts to say Boruc @ 10 mill is too expensive
6. Such and such a striker is too expensive
7. If we cant land Ade, we dont NEED any othr signings!WTF!

Pretty much Avia..
Since the season ended, we’ve been talking and talking about possible new strikers, and I guess it was a waste of time ‘dreaming’ about the new strike-force of Pato and Mr. X.
After 1,2 and 4, my hope level was at 100.. then 5 came and it went down 30.. 6 made it 10.. and 7 leaves me at a 1..
Cheers to anyone who understood the above.

Galliani seems remarkably gloomy about Milan buying anyone at all. I’d like to see Borriello being given a decent chance, hopefully he’s learnt his lesson about unprescribed medicines.

I don’t know if Rash Man (Borriello) is going to be able to take on the responsibility…Hopefully crossing my fingers that he can.
By the way Milan are supposedly leading the race to capture this guy, Andrei Arshavin, from Russia…I’ll give a link to a video when I get home from the doctors

Apparently Milan is heavily interested in signing Russian striker Andrei Arshavin. Carletto was at the Russia v Sweden match, and has said to reporters that Arshavin is the biggest surprise at Euro 08. I really liked what I saw from Arshavin against Sweden, and I hope this is true.
Oh, and I definately don’t think Pato is a one season wonder. I’m practically the biggest Pato advocate, I want him starting every game! I’m just acting cautiously because you never know what can happen to a player.

And in regards to stadia, AC Milan and Inter do not own San Siro. The City of Milan owns that stadium. Galliani and Moratti have often complained about it, and it is because of this reason that Berlusconi has indicated he wants to build a new stadium for Milan that is owned by the club itself. Also, I believe the Artemio Franchi is not owned by a single club as well, rather it is under the authority of the city. There are some others, but I can’t remember them all right now.
Hopefully what Juve’s doing will set other Serie A clubs in motion. Juve’s new stadium is supposed to be a dandy, with stands close to the pitch, no running track, and 75,000 capacity. Hopefully, more clubs will be able to follow in that direction. It’s things like old stadia and less than great fan attendance that make Serie A seem below the likes of La Liga and the EPL. We all know the quality of Serie A clubs is among the best in the world, but there isn’t the same showcasing of that quality as there is elsewhere.

Here are some videos of Andrei Arshavin
http://youtube.com/watch?v=io5d_gSammc
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Iu4bcKTZ5PY
My fave part is at 3:15 where the goalie went to put the ball down to do a goal kick and he ran up from behind him took the ball and put it in the back of the net…all before the goalie could do anything about it.

if there is really unadequate amount of money, I won’t hope Milan to sacrifice too much, because I’d hate to see my club go down to serie-B because of financial problem.
I just hope for them to make smart move, like Wenger did in Arsenal, by signing good undervalued prospects more and signing overrated star players less.

i mean ‘inadequate’.
