Reggina 0 - Milan 1, The Climb Continues
By: Gianfranco | January 30th, 2008
Well Milan was away from home, Gila played and guess what? Bingo, bango, like clockwork Gila scores. Carletto and others, specifically Pippo, drummed up a ton of support for Gila this week and the ex-Parma hitman rewarded everyone. Other than Sunday where he was forced to play two useless minutes, his last few appearances have shown that Gila can be a value to this team, and may prove a valuable component to play alongside Kaka and Pato.
Back to today’s game, anyone else think Rino was hellbent on this team winning by blasting shot after shot from outside the box? He was able to score last week, and looked hungry to add another this week. I have no problem with Rino, or anyone for that, blasting shots from outside the box. With strikers like Pippo and Gila these guys are very capable of dumping potential rebounds into the back of the net.
Oddo continues his run of solid play, and Favalli is doing fine as Maldini’s understudy. It makes me wonder what role Janks will have upon his return, if ever, and if guys like Serginho who played a ton of left back in his day, is no longer a favorite of Carletto. I will have to say that Emerson starting over Gourcuff was a poor choice on Carletto’s part, and leads to me to wonder if he will potentially be considering him for a Champions League game. I really have no idea anymore.
I personally would really like to see Gourcuff in Seedorf’s place, as a replacement either sub or fill in, in the role of withdrawn attacking midfielder, or the player who sits behind the attack. With two forwards, whoever you like, and Kaka behind them, it leaves you with a line of three midfielders that could consist of Gourcuff/Seedorf, Pirlo, and Gattuso. It is a lineup that allows for more flexibility but also a fearful attack. It keeps Kaka high up and supports Pirlo with the help of a Seedorf/Gourcuff/Ambro, it also opens the door for Carletto to remove a striker for a midfielder in the later stages of the while still remaining offensive in the attack.
Looks something like this:
Dida
Oddo Nesta Kaladze Il Capitano
Gattuso/Brocchi Pirlo Seedorf/Gourcuff
Kaka
Pato Gila
(I cant get my table to work properly, but you get the idea)
Just a suggestion if anyone is reading…

I too have the same problem as Ancelotti in including Gouruff in the midfield if we are going with 2 strikers- I trust Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambro, and maybe even Emerson ahead of Gourcuff. It is unfortunate that all of our remaining matches are all so vital that we have no room for “trying out” Gourcuff (and proving me wrong). Maybe next year/or loan him out.

The things is, if Milan are able to kill the game off by halftime(by leading 2-0,3-0),then Ancelotti will get on Gourcuff for the 2nd half. But usually, we dont win games by halftime,so Gourcuff hardly gets much time to play.

How on earth did I forget this match was today…the one day I was home during midweek. *shakes head*
In any case, happy we won. good job Gila, happy to hear Oddo’s form is improving. What’s the status update on Janks? I haven’t seen him play in ages (last time was against Sevilla when he scored that kickass volley), sometimes I forget he’s on our team.
Unrelated, but Gianfranco, one day, can we have a tribute to Tiziano Crudeli aka. the biggest Milan fan ever? Chris
from the Roma blog was pimping their commentator, and I think that a legend like Crudeli deserves some loving.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZMeYKYW4qCk&feature=relatedHow can you not love this man?

A win is a win, 3 more points, climbing up the table one step at a time. even though we’ve been saying that phrase for quite a bit, but a win IS a win
Is it just me or does Ringhio get some “super powers” when we wears the captain arm band! or maybe he was too energetic and excited to play in Calabria. Ringhio for Il Capitano after the great and only Il Capitano Paolo.
Careltto is probably playing his superstitious cards with playing Gila on away games. and i agree id like to see Gourcuff get more minutes.

it was a very unusual formation employed by carlo today, but i think it was perfect setup to compliment reggina’s one dimensional attack.
in the first half, reggina never attacked down the flanks, hoping to use the counterattacks. with our midfield playing such a high line compared to the D-line, reggina was pressured time and time again into releasing long balls which nesta and kaladze easily cleared up.
gattuso was a f’ing beast today. and pirlo just proved again why he is currently the greatest midfielder in the world. he can play anywhere along the Midfield line, and today he played in seedorf’s spot and he had another majestic game. emerson didnt do too bad, hes still a dirty player, and he nearly bagged himself a goal.
but reggina didnt have the quality to test our defense much. on another note, i hope kalac keeps playing in the net, hes had 2 clean sheets in a row in the league, first time ever this season, and something dida still hasnt achieved…
pirlo was my MoM, fan-fuc*ing-tastic. everywhere and creating magic like always, he is our king.

“Bingo, bango, like clockwork Gila scores”
Now that i think about it, I did have an alarm clock as reliable as gila. On an unrelated note, i was fired for excessive tardiness.
On a serious note, I feel that pirlo’s form has been really good really this whole year. Truly one of the better players in serie a this year for sure.

Jamie, Pirlo may really be the golden ball winner in many Milan Fan’s eyes. Consistent in every game…

Given the outrageous number of awards Ricky has won this year (something like 16, 17? what? I love him and all, but really…), I think he can spare a few that should have gone to Pirlo. The man’s brilliance boggles me at times (in a good way), and all Milan fans know that he’s the maestro of our midfield.
As dear Tiziano would say…”E Andiamo!”. Holy shiznit, why is The Offside so amazing. Bob totally did a post on him back in the day, albeit a short one.

I am glad you found that Hana, I still remember his screaming for Pippo, it brings tears to my eyes. I will def give him his cred come summer, or the slow time.
Any thoughts on Pato’s good game/bad game pattern? The next one will be a scorcher…

The problem with Milan is that they don’t go for the jugular when they go ahead against these lower teams. It’s as if it is impolite to pump Reggina with more goals at their stadium.
This game was the same. When they score, they get even more casual and start to over play, become individualistic and stuff around too much. It is too poetic and beautiful too win scudetti. They need ruthlessness like Inter, lo and behold! lol
As to the tactics, Milan were very overstretched when they played with just two deep midfielders against Napoli so I can see why Ancelotti has been scared to employ this again. However, Reggina were crap in attack and perhaps Gourcuff could have been thrown on earlier when this was became obvious, which was pretty much from the get go.
Emerson had a good game though; Gilardino is scoring but will never have pace and he is too old school Italian, diving before the ball even reaches his foot, “dude that style is way outdated these days…get over it”!; Oddo takes 15 games to get to top form, in the meantime expect lots of erratic crossing. And Pato, the boy thinks he is still playing five a side kick-a-abouts in Porte Alegre, so casual. He needs a season at least to learn the pace and defense in the Serie A but still, he gives the opposition so much covering to do.

Pirlo on the other hand. When he plays well, he is the successor to Zidane in the stakes of playing the beautiful game most beautifully.

Pirlo is surely an amazing player and personality as well. Given his role and contribution in Milan and Azzurri, he keeps low profile attitude inside and outside the pitch. Just wonder if Milan and Azzurri could win Champions League and World Cup without him. The current golden era of Milan and Azzurri seems to start with the rise of Pirlo. The next generation of Zidane indeed !

Better get recognized, loved and appreciated by your teammates, coach, club and fans rather some soccer organizations who vote on players based on who will make more money for them or their sponsors. not saying Kaka didnt deserve it lol
