Monday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | July 13th, 2009

Just a couple of quick hits…

-Milan won their first friendly, and along with it came some praise for Ronaldinho, anyone else think he has a lot more to do? Yes they won, but it was basically a club team and the squad still has an extremely long way to go. Some articles were flying around saying that Dinho was made to declare his love for the cause and getting himself back to “fighting” shape, again no offense here but athletes are second only to politicians when it comes to declaring their intentions. I wouldn’t even accept a written contract from some athletes! One minute they love their club and don’t want to leave the next minute they are playing for Real Madrid, I will take my declarations on the field thank you! We all know we need him; in fact I will venture to say that we are building this team around him, but where does that leave us creatively if he fails…

-Luis Fabiano and Nardo are getting hot and heavy, and frankly I don’t like and most of all I don’t get it. Some of us chastised Onyewu for his performance in the Confed Cup, with bold claims like, “It is only the Confed Cup, and no one was trying!” Then in the same breath we praise Fabiano for having a superb Confed Cup!? Isn’t this a double standard!! He is to expensive, and by no means an upgrade from what we already have. Do we want to push Borriello to Napoli, if he leaves because he wants first team football can we blame him? This Fabiano move is crap if you ask me, he is older than we need, and doesn’t really do anything all that well to make this courtship worth it, anything over 12M is a waste of money that we apparently do not have.

-Speaking of transfers these Madrid player rumors out of Milan and anywhere else for that matter are crazy. If Perez and his Galaticos want to buy everyone under the sun for inflated prices, why should any club be made to pay full price for their players? Nothing against the Dutch Madrista’s but wouldn’t one consider those players surplus to need? Therefore shouldn’t Real be looking to unload at one point or another? Milan and any other interested club should cash in then, not now, make them sweat it out, and buy when the price is right. Remember VanDerVaart and Huntelaar couldn’t game at the end of the season, their value has plummeted and should be bought that way, don’t fuel the Madrid madness.

-Onto more crazy transfers, Man City is now linked to former Milan target Adebayor. If he does in fact go there, then I too will jump off the bandwagon. He wants CL football right and to prove himself the World’s best, he can start by saying no to Man City who seems to believe that the key to winning football matches is having more strikers than the other team. If Adebayor and Tevez go to Man City to join Santa Cruz it will only be a matter of minutes before Milan are linked to Jo and Bojinov, and that will be a travesty all in itself. It is a shame a guy like Stevie Ireland played his heart out for that club and no one seems to give a crap, shame on Mark Hughes, and shame on anyone who goes there.

-The newest Brazilian that Milan has a hard on for is Hernanes. The 24 year old DM is said to be in talks with Milan which means that A. Gattuso is will be made obsolete B. Flamini will either be sold or made to play RB (which he doesn’t fancy) or C. Nardo will play 3 DM’s behind 3 strikers. Frankly I don’t get it, I don’t like, and I want to stand for it. We need creative depth, Dinho can’t play every single game, and Seedorf shouldn’t play any period. If Pirlo does in fact play CM, shouldn’t we but someone comparable to him as well!? D’Agostino wants out of Udine, and Rosina is on his way to Serie B, wouldn’t these be more sensible targets based on need? Just a few days I was renewing my faith in the cause, today however it seems to be plummeting yet again…welcome to the Rossoneri rollercoaster!

-On a side note, many of us engage daily here with Pat Cook, whose incite and discussion are superb, his website carries the same edge here. Always worth a read after your trip here of course!

Yeah, that will be a problem. I dont mind Milan signing Robben. He is creative, fast, wont cost a lot,and can easily fit into Leo’s 4:3:3. His only downside is that he gets injured a bit to often. But when he is on form,he is really good.

Ranjeet, exactly am on the same page as you regarding Robben. I have wanted Milan to sign that player since he left Chelsea. I cant get why Berlusconi cant get it through his head, Milan is slow. We need players like Robben, Cissokho and Fabiabo to add some pace to the squad. What frustrates me is that all three players combined would cost around ÂŁ50M which is not much when you look at the way Juventus is spending, plus we’ve made ÂŁ70M by selling Kaka and Gourcuff.

m4l,i think the problem with Milan is that they have used most of the money from the Kaka sale to clear off debts. It is believed that Milan dont have more than 20m euros to spend on the market. But I dont buy this. Why is Milan in such a hurry to clear off their debts? Madrid and Utd. have had debts from some time now,but they still buy the necessary players.Something doesnt seem right at Milan. Galliani has said that he believes the situation will improve by next year. I am not too sure.

ranjeet, its not all completely confidential, some are out there but for financial reasons. not easy to get, usually expensive and serves business people in that field only. but yah would be nice to see everything. they cant keep anything a secret, thats why when people are saying Milan management are taking some extra in their pocket, complete horse shit, not possible. unless Berlusconi really wants to top Madeff.

not much available online, but i came across this a couple of days ago.

“it’s good to have a coach who looks like he can stil play & not some fat idiot.”

Not surprising of Milan’s current situation. We are seeming to go after people who look like they can play and be and asset for Milan than for players who can actually play.

Ps. “the fat idiot” has played 112 games for our club and also 2 Champions League trophies with Milan.

Honestly, I think its surprising that people are still insulting Carletto. I understand the fact that he was not the most favored of the coaches out there during his last season, but now that we have moved on, people need to show some respect to second longest serving coach in Milan history. One that has brought a few trophies to the San Siro as well.

K, i think ancelotti does deserve a lot of criticism. To me its clear he wanted out in 2006 and was just waiting for a chance. Wasted our time and his.

IMO, Calciopoli kept him at Milan. I think Galliani was afraid if Carlo left for Madrid during all the calciopoli stuff a lot of players would have left. So we got stuck with a manager who didnt want to manage us and decided just to play buddies with his fav players

*** can we forget about getting a striker? ***

It does not seem to happen, at least in near future … I said before that the reason we tried literally every strikers on market is because we don’t have money to get any of them. I had thought Fabiano was the bottom of the list, I was wrong again. Seems to me the budget is about 15M.

Frankly, with that money, I really don’t care who came or not come, Fabiano, Robben, Huntelaar (who is comparable to who? did somebody say Van Basten?? Is him the player exchanged for Ibra/eto+40M???). It is like finding something in a trash can …

just give me Trezeguet, yes, he is old like Granpa, and he score only one goal last season! yet I actually feel more comfortable with him than all other names mentioned above … or just get one from Milan youth and save the money, we have saved a lot, why not 15M more?

Did someone mention Santacroce??? that is the kind of player I really hope we reach for. Unfortunately no such rumors …

Xu, I agree with the sentiment “just get one from Milan youth and save the money”

Show a bit of faith in Pato and Borriello and why not give a younger guy a chance as the 4th striker?

If worse comes to worse and the youngsters arent performing come January, then we buy an experienced guy.

on pancook “K, i think ancelotti does deserve a lot of criticism. To me its clear he wanted out in 2006 and was just waiting for a chance. Wasted our time and his”

No, Ancelotti has got enough Criticism, and I am with K think that he deserve more credit, especially he has left Milan. I don’t know how feel like “Calciopoli kept him at Milan”… For me, Ancelotti would love to continue his success at Milan if the manager/owner is willing to invest decently on players he want. It does not happen, however, yet he never complained. With squad and injure like last season. He deserves a lot credit in last season for getting the 3rd place in Serie A. But it does not seem matter so much, because I don’t think we could get much excitement for playing in CL this season …

I repeat, he has got enough Criticism during his service at Milan, lot of them are not his fault. Now, he has left. if you’re happy, be happy about it. But say no more trash on him. He is not our manager anymore. I would wish him good luck in UK.

    xu,

ur an idiot. my opinion is based on fact, urs is based on sentimentality.

FACT: Carlo said in his book he wanted out in 2006 during the calciopoli scandal and had signed a pre-contract with Madrid, but Galliani and Berlu forced him to stay. (I believe this is because multiple players including Pirlo and Gattuso were talking about leaving Serie A and Galliani knew the players affection towards ancelotti would help keep tham and that if carlo left some of them would have gone.)

FACT: Carlo admitted to multiple meetings with abramovic to discuss how abramovich should turn Chelsea into a CL winning side. (Carlo claims he was never offered a job, but I dont but that)

Know lets think back to 2006. We hadn’t won anything for 2 years. There was the istanbul disgrace and the capitulation to Barca in 06. A lot of people were saying the club needed a change and younger players and a lot of people where criticising Carlo for his in game decisions.

I believe that, based on the facts, If calciopoli hadn’t created such an unsure atmosphere at Milan, Galliani would have let Ancelotti go to Madrid.

You said “Ancelotti would love to continue his success at Milan if the manager/owner is willing to invest decently on players he want”
I dont think this is wholely true. He might not have had final say but I think he dictated what type of players we went for (ie old players) as evidenced by the fact that we are now chasing youngsters. If Galliani and Berlu had sole decision on transfers, why dont they continue buying old players like they did for Carlo? because carlo wanted the old players and they got them for him, Leo wants youngsters and thats what he is getting. Also, If carlo doesnt like meddling owners why go to chelski? Your arguement is a little lame, you should read more so you have a real knowledge of the game.

now if you want to dispute this based on evidence then im happy to continue discussing it with you, but if your just going to spout bs then you shouldnt even reply cos i wont.

Well considering he said at the start of last season he wanted to win the scudetto or at least put up a challenge, Carlo failed miserably in the league (Whats new really?)

Just to clarify the matter: I’d love to see R80 regain his form and contribute to Milan. I just think the probability is very low.

I don’t even mind if we don’t do well this season as long as the youngsters get better.

I’ll find the piece on iTunes for you guys as he is pressing to buy his way back into Milan for january return

patcook did you forget he won the CL in 07. that alone is worth more than anything, worth a decade without any victory! yes! ask Inter its over 40 years for them, european glory is priceless and he provided it twice in 5 years. plus a final (i dont see how you can blame him, he got us there) + only 3 times out of 7 without making the CL semi-final. always fighting on the top with serie a.

him wanting to leave has nothing to do with criticizing him or he wasnt giving all. he was always giving 110%, its his choices and he’ll back it up, if you dont agree with it, well you can go try and get his job. so what if he wanted to leave, its his right, it didnt work out and he continued to win with us. Carlo made history, made Milan, Maldini wouldnt be the same without Carletto, nor will Kaka & Sheva(golden ball winners) or Pirlo, Rino (WC winners) and many others. He is a great coach, his tactics werent always agreed because didnt always work as expected. but at the end of the day he is one of the best out there and im glad he coached us.

Luis Fabiano is apparently not happy over the way Milan are going about his signing, according to his agent. I want to tell them 4 words: SHUT THE FUCK UP. I am happy Milan wont just play up. 20m euros for a soon to be 29 year old is ridiculous. A 15m euro offer is more than fair enough.

Pat, insulting is different from criticism.

And like I said, he deserves respect for what he has accomplished at Milan. Maybe a lot of people feel that he did not do everything he could have done with Milan, especially last season, but that does not mean that you cannot respect him for his accomplishments at Milan.
