Milan 2 – Genoa 0

By: Gianfranco | January 27th, 2008

If you are watching and are near a computer, which you should be, feel free to rant about the game, as they say it is always better to lose with friends, or celebrate with them.

Well what is there to say as this game begins:

-Keep Borriello under wraps, he is the top Italian goal scorer in Seria A.

-Carletto went with a xmas tree instead of a Pa-Ka-Gi trident, don’t expect more than one goal.

Enjoy our ramblings below, as the game went on but I want to add a few things as a wrap up.

We cannot let a two goal lead mask what really was a poor first half, missed chances, poor passing, and letting some of the Genoa forwards fly into the back. Whatever Carletto said at half time it seemed to work, but it remember it was 11 v 10 when Milan really started to dominated. At the moment I am phoning Arsene Wenger to see if he is willing to spot the Rossoneri a player so we can maybe score a goal.

Pato scored twice, but he scored goals that I believe anyone in his position could have scored, when he made a great move through the D he could not finish and that scares me, remember this kid is supposed to be your cold blooded scorer. He is a great talent, moves, and runs well but he needs to really be a mercenary in front of the net.

Great game from Oddo and Ambrosini who needed to really get back on form, Kaladze also played well after his mid week howler. What is there to say about Il Capitano, he just plays and its glorious, I am upset that every game I watch means it is one game less.

Lastly, I think the best thing for Gila is to leave ASAP, this week even. I just do not get Carletto, why not give him a run with Pato, I know there is a game this Wednesday but and Gila will probably play, but don’t disrespect the guy by making him play the last two minutes, I would have told Carletto to F-off.

a very painful first half to watch, Careltto should just forget the christmas tree formation!! we got better in the second half, although we missed many chances thank god Pato eventually capitalized. and i believe the referee missed 1 thing while reading the referee manual, when a ball touches a player’s hand, ITS A FOUL, A HANDBALL!!!!!

Gila should leave for his best interest, so does Emerson and while we’re at it burn Dida :)

and yah gianfranco, im trying to enjoy every second of watching Il Capitano play. especially playing at his old position and doing a good job at it. we just need to see him score.

the goals for the ones who did not watch the game:

woooot! Forza Milan! hey, a win is a win. I one hundred percent slept right through my alarm clock waking me up for the match, sadly. thanks bunches fetyani for the clips.

congrats to ducky, regardless of how easy the goals were, but poor gila. being subbed in for the last 2 minutes is kind of obnoxious. “I would have told Carletto to F-off.” haha, great quote. I really am in favor of Gila leaving for his own benefit, he is wasting away. I would be elated if that Frey-Gila move went through. Of course, mind you, we need any and every fit striker we can get at the moment…

MCitalian, very nice analogy, but when you have been as constipated as Milan one or two Pato laxatives is not enough, you need 2-5.

    Hana…
I don’t know if Fiorentina would swap Frey for Gila. They need the Frenchman in goal more than they need Gila — though, they might need a striker once the Bobo doesn’t pan out or retires.

Gianfranco…thx. and you’re probably right. but things are at least moving again…if you know what I mean.

Whether you’re a fan of Pato or not, i think it must be agreed that when he does play there is definitely more activity around the opponents goal mouth.

What i would like to see is Pato and Inzaghi playing together as Pipo being the definitive poacher im sure he would be able to capitilise on the attempts on goal that Pato cant convert.

Watching todays match, there were a number of runs on goal where i thought to myself had Super Pips been there he would have scored.

Avia my dad said the same thing about Pippo…

I’m elated…happy…extatic…I don’t care that the goals were lousy or what ever they were goals that led to up nabbing another 3 pts.

That would be a killing duo Avia. unlike Gila, Pippo makes the defense run after him and jades them. Pippo will forever be THE SUPER PIPPO!!

The commentator on TLN had a good comment on Pato. he might not be a born goalscorer but he has many other abilities and with experience he’ll become a goalscorer.

Im just hoping that Carletto has had a similar light bulb moment and has plans to team them up!

Pato isnt an out of the box product, he will have 2 develop, luckily he has the best possible company to do that.

Anyone know if there is any development yet on Super Pips comeback?

Fetyani, I heard the comment also, he needs more experience to become a goal scorer, I am beggining to wonder if may he is less a striker type and more a forward, as in create and move. I wonder if Pato moved into Seedorf’s slot along side Kaka and Pippo in front, maybe the xmas tree can work after all?

Gianfranco, im not too sure on Pato taking on Seedorfs role as Pato imo lacks the strength to keep the ball. Seedorf can defend the ball well. Wee Pato struggles against the more physical defenders no?

I can still remember Seedorf running C.Ronaldo right off the pitch last year. Beautiful!

exactly and a player must have an ample experience to play as a trequartista. He just need to excel in goalscoring, probably get a couple of pointers from the great one himself, Pippo. and we can only hope and pray that our transfer guru try to enforce the team, to make the job easier for the whole team.

i dont know why, but many milanisti disagree, but i believe Gourcuff has a bright future in Milan. i hope he becomes Seedorf’s successor, in the beginning you can see that Seedorf took him under his wing and was mentoring him, i hope he still is. for some reason i believe in this kid, best quality about him is that he fights with heart till the end. he need more minutes, confidence and trust from Carletto.

anybody notice how well our fullbacks were pushing up today?

Maldini ‘is a phenomenon who laughs at his ID card’ (berlusconi). somebody said it earlier, as much joy as we get from seeing him play, its always a countdown to the inevitable. hes so damn good. all of his crosses tested the gk today, and one of them ended up as a goal. he started the second half slow, but in the first he was tearing the left flank to shreds.

as for oddo, he had his best game all season. he was both a force in attack and defense. he seems to have lost a bit of his pace, but he makes up for it with his experience. lets hope he continues this form.

Forza Maldini. 3 and half months guys. 3.5 more months of Maldini. on the pitch atleast. this will be a tragic day for football.

shenan, that’s good to hear. Bonera has been decent at right back, but he’s not much for pushing up. I remember the first game of this season, back when we still had scudetto dreams (against Genoa, coincidentally), Oddo played a killer cross from the right, Seedorf headed it over to Ricky, who scored. It was beautiful. I just hope that Oddo keeps it up.

I didn’t realize it was that soon until il capitano’s swan song. What a terribly sad day for football that will be indeed. Paolo Maldini per sempre.

on a completely different note, I think this is the first time we’ve hit 50 comments guys, unless I’m mistaken. woot! =]

Im with Fet regarding Gourcuff, i think he is a good player who like Pato needs to be cultivated. We need to keep him!

And Shehan, u aint the only one who noticed Oddos performance today, he played his socks off!!!!!!!! If he turns that into a weekly performance our defensive worries maybe soon solved! Maldini was majestic today it has to be said. Long live the King! (But Baresi is still the Emperor!)

to “ordeal_rules (JCS)”: Did you even read the article he wrote.. Yes Pato scored the goals but the real hero’s are the ones that supplied the ball to him, he just scored what any striker could have done in his position.

But dont get me wrong, I like the boy and really think he is changing the attitude of the striking department.

    anyways.. FORZA MILAN!!

Gourcuff does play his heart out and he tries so hard…It’s sad to see him just sitting on the bench like a faithful ball boy. Waiting for his turn to play with the greats of milan.

I can’t wait for the midweek game hopefully we conquer and dominate that game also so we can jump past Samp.

We are currently in 7th spot with two games still in hand…which means we still have hope guys!

As for Boriello, top Italian goal scorer? I thought he was Argie?

I was out of town and missed the game, but I am glad to hear that Oddo is returning to form. Much better than reading Spaceball comments….

On a similar note, I remember listening to a broadcast of a Milan game through their website last year, and the commentator kept referring to “Willy Wonka.” Who is he referring to? I thought it was Ronaldo, but I couldn’t say for sure. Anyone?
