Milan 3 Palermo 0
By: Gianfranco | April 27th, 2009Let me start off loud and clear. The first PK was a tough call, sure you could argue that it was a just call, but you can even argue that Roma are a good team, it doesn’t mean you are right. Did Milan need the PK to win? Absolutely not, Milan were the superior team on this day and watching the Ambro to Pippo link up reflects that time and time again. I have never been one to complain about ref’s considering the “hand of the emperor” goal in the derby, these things happen, and they are part of the game. In the end they will all even out, but to see Inter fan’s calling these calls’s dodgy is a bit hard for me to swallow. And am by no means here to review the performance of the referee but these things all even out in the end.
The second PK was just as tough a call, but again this is the way the game is played at the moment. If a defender, any defender drapes his arm, body, leg , and hand over an attacker and the attacker goes down a PK is more often than not given. Balzaretti made a mistake, Kaka embellished that mistake, and the rest is history. Do I believe what Kaka did was right, by all means no, but if the ref rewards that behavior then it will be part of the game until that is corrected? Had Palermo played a dangerous ball into the box and Cavani done the same thing, I couldn’t argue. Problem is Palermo didn’t test the Milan defense so in the end as I said earlier the better team won.

Before the win I saw some interesting comments, mainly regarding Seedorf and Janks. Seedorf has easily become the most talked about player on this blog. Yes he made mistakes in this match, but if you watch a second time with a pad and paper count the amount of times he was passed the ball under pressure of more than one or two players. For me he managed to put himself in great positions today, did well on the ball when given space, and clog the middle which is what Carletto wanted. Janks is a funny one because for weeks on end I read comments about playing the most inform players, hell I even preached it myself, and last week arguably Flamini was the most in form player on the pitch at RB, so what would you have done? Benched Flamini for Janks, or kept the status quo…exactly…

Another gem of a game for Ambrosini, the announcer kept talking about Ambro leaving the club at the end of this season. It shocked me a bit because Ambro is not the flashiest midfielder, fastest, or even most technically sound, but his cross today was world class and his ability to get his butt in the right place at the right time is second only to Rino, with Flamini earning some praise in that regard as well. If Ambro wanted to leave for guaranteed first team football season, I couldn’t argue with him or fault him, but I hope he stays at the San Siro and continues performances like those of the last two weeks.
All and all another very solid performance for the Rossoneri on the road to a potential return to CL football, and though I don’t often comment to on the performances of other teams it is important to take a quick look at the teams surrounding us on the table. The Don did is a big favor by taking three from Inter. My father and had a discussion about both Mourinho and Inter today surrounded around the fact that Mourinho is a guy used to have big games to gear himself and his team up for. With Inter out of CL and the Coppa Italia, Mourinho will have to do a lot to get this team geared up for the final stretch. Yes their schedule is much easier than Milan’s down the stretch, but I can’t help but be a little excited about the next five weeks…join me if you will, but stranger things have happened….

pera – we are not questioning janks skills…but remember we definitely need an alternative… firstly bcos janks is not growing any younger and secondly bcos we will have a very busy schdule and rotation will be the key esp for rb/lb position (as theres a lot of running involved)….
k – we should absolutely keep our distance from them..it was jus an enquiry..maybe bcos his contract might expire around that time or maybe if he wanted to leave we could grab him for cheap…
gian – ure right about that point…. i was thinking of dani alves kinda player (obviously not him)..
Also i hope mattioni turns out to be a good player…or maybe we can make him one
…that will save us some money aswell..zambro can rotate with mattioni and all in all flamini is always there to cover that position…if next year flamini becomes a permanent rb…then we can have flamini/mattioni rotation on the right and zambro/janks rotation on the left….will save us loads… IMO mattioni looked decent in the game against hungary league team….

I LOVE DANI ALVES, and Sergio Ramos for that matter these guys could be at home defense or even striker, just great footballers, remind of Maldini to some extent. Evra’s contract is set to expire and he has made it very clear that he would come to Milan, but SAF needs him almost as bad as we do.
Not sold yet on Mattioni, if he was good enough he would have played at least some in Serie A…

true Gian…thats y i said he looked decent but nothing special…did his job well…
so i was right about evra… the surprising thing is that its not been in the news after that and there has been literally nothing coming out of manchester aswell… i think he has committed to leave and join milan and i guess thats y there is no hush-push in the news as to the growing unconern bla bla bla as with other playerrs…

Alves was acting like a little bitch earlier. Disrupting the game and drawing much too much attention to himself, not getting up after fouls, feigning injury. I was surprised he didn’t get carded. But he took on hell of a free kick, in contrast to his power-over-accuracy signature tactic.
Anyone else think Chelsea’s gameplan was a disgrace?

alves doesn’t know how to defend, he gives up dangerous freekicks all the time. he exploits space extremely well, but then again, he’s got the worlds best player (mess) in front of him dragging 6-7 defenders around with him.
as for dossena, imagine matterazzi pushing up the flank. no skill, no technique, no composure with the ball. dossena absolutely sucks. i’d rather offer favalli an extension.

Chelsea’s gameplan is what is wrong with European football today. Maybe they should remove the 2 legs and have a single game at a neutral venue. Then the teams will have to attack.
And Drogba’s attitude is rubbish. He keeps going down to easily, and doesnt get up until the ball is sent out of play. He and Ronaldo are the 2 biggest idiots in world football.Posted from

I am not a big fan of Dossena, and if we can convince Flamini to play at RB,then buying a fullback may not be necessary.

It would be amazing if we could get Evra. I think he is among the top 3 best LB’s in the world, and while his defending might be a little suspect, his attacking ability is awesome. But I think he will stay with Crapchester.

I think they should consider the NFL playoff system; seeds those mofos and sort em based on how they played in the group stage. then give the homefield advantage to two teams throughout. Then you’ll have yourselves a full-fledged, cut-throat playoff season.
Here’s another suggestion to spice up those games. first to three goals wins the game. I don’t care if 60 minutes are left on the clock, end the game at three goals. Kind of like capture the flag. Then you’ll have all-out war and real sponsorship deals.
The realistic option of course is to wait for Milan to be back in the Champions League.

Can we ban the BPL teams from the CL for boredom?Or they should be allowed to only play each other.

@syed: How can you say No-No to an expensive transfer ala Dossena (7 million) and at the same time suggest that Mattioni should stay? Mattioni is on loan and it would cost Milan 6.5 million to make it permanent. For a player who was decent against an Hungarian league team THAT would be expensive.
@alessio: Me too. Except for the F word. I just hate him.
We should get Parma’s half of Luca Antonelli and convert him into a LB. That would be an Italian and a cheap option. With Oddo returning and Bonera fit, we would have several options at RB/LB.

Ranjeet, I have to disagree, Milan has done in the past quite succesfully, and as a true football fan you have to apprecaite a well organized and stout defensive performance. Is it tantalizing to watch, not really, but for some people it is bliss to watch a well organized machine stop an offensive force…frankly I was impressive, didnt think it could be done…

hated the match but only cause i was watching it as a neutral – any italian football supporter is used to seeing and appreciating tactics like this and its the only thing that they could have done – who would have thot before the match that it would be scoreless at camp nou?

As for Dossena, the player at Anfield is a night and day from the player at Udinese. At Anfield he has been reduced to a petty thug chasing players up and down the flank, while at Udinese he was able to defend as well play a bit of football. Which again raises the issue of differences between EPL and Serie A, some very talented players go to England or vice versa and their games suffer…this is just a case of this in my opinion.

ASL, I like Antonelli, but the general feeling on his move would involve a Paloschi swap…not sure if Milan wants to do that or not…

exactly my point Sam, you have to appreciate for what it was worth, once I saw Mikel and Essien in the same midfield I knew what Guus was gunning for, and they suceeded sans Carvalho and Cole to boot, with Bosingwa out of position!!! Not to mention Ballack playing a destroyer role!??!? Who would have thunk it…

@Gianfranco: Nor do I. Just wanted to point out another possibility. A cheaper and an Italian one. Plus, one that belongs to Milan, well, at least 50%. Let’s get Galliani to do what he is getting paid for and negotiate. Him and all his henchmen.

i think bosingwa was the MOTM for me yday – for him to be able to shackle both messi and alves and not be a regular starter was outstanding – that’s what i think i give guus credit for
