Heerenveen 1 Milan 3
By: Gianfranco | October 23rd, 2008Thanks to an eight hour meeting today I didn’t get the pleasure of watching, game casting, or even following along on the blog. But once I saw the lineup I already got a little peeved, see for yourself, Dida; Zambrotta, Bonera, Antonini, Favalli; Gattuso, Emerson, Flamini, Kaka (Jankulovski 75); Inzaghi (Ronaldinho 71), Shevchenko (Pato 71). I guess Abbiati needs a break now and then and Emerson instead of the Uruguayans is great for the development of our young players. Kudos though to Emerson who made the most of the situation and supposedly played quite well, but the star of the show today was Kaka. He played well, created, and was responsible for the attack more often than not. A solid win, but not without problems, which we can now discuss…
Sheva – It is beginning to look more and like Sheva’s best days are behind him. I always hoped that he had a bad spurt at Chelsea and he would regain his form with Milan, but it doesn’t look like he is getting there yet, or anytime soon really. It’s to bad really, because he is and will always be a hero in the Red and Black.
Carletto – We talked about a bit the other day, but his ideas and views on young players are almost the polar opposite of his counterpart at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger. Carletto has absolutely no concept of the “give the youngsters a run” idea and as shown today would much rather give Emerson a run than either Cardaccio or Viudez. I don’t personally believe in this system, specifically because successful teams like Man United or even Inter are blending veterans and youth to win games and succeed. Why can’t Milan use their personnel to do the same? Cardaccio, Antonini, Pato, and even Borriello should be able to get solid minute’s game in and game out with the support they have around them.
I am satisfied with the win, but this is a season that begs for us to reload and take on the CL next year. Favalli, Emerson, and maybe even Pippo and Seedorf will probably not be with us next season in the same capacity so why not phase them out gradually to ready us for next season.
Sunday Milan will travel to Atalanta which has proved very unfriendly in the past two seasons yielding no points. To be considered a contender Atalanta will have to be beaten, and beaten comfortably. A one-nil win is fine for me, but it needs to the kind where Milan dominates possession, Abbiati is bored, and tghe Atalanta goal is littered with shots. I am anxious for the game to say the least.
My lineup: Abbiati, Zambro, Nesta, Paolo, Janks, Rino, Seedorf, Ambro, Dinho, Borriello, Pato.

The same for WHEN/IF we get Beckham, Carlo will be made to ensure the Becks gets playn time ahead of Cardacio.

I think the genuis of Wenger comes in his ability to retain, sell, and scout certain talent. His eye on this is uncanny. But you are right Shehan on parody in the EPL, but you can’t blame those big four for that, you kind of need to blame everyone else.
I will never find salvation in Totti…a famous Italian journalist used to call Milan legend Gianni Rivera an abatino, which literally means little priest, but the name was negative to the effect that Brera claimed Rivera didn’t do enough for his club, his country, and himself to gain all the plaudits bestowed upon him, I may not agree with Brera on Rivera, but my abatino sits in Roma and wears number 10…

for me, totti is one of the few genius players left. he is among my favorite top 5 players; Maldini and pirlo also in that list.
i still think wenger can be a grumpy idiot sometimes; as i’ve said many times before, arsenal are my favorite english team (if you can call them english..). wenger’s stubbornness has backfired plenty of times, and last season’s crash and burn was the major highlight of his youth policy. his current crop of players havent won anything worth talking about, and that reflects on his failure to lead the team successfully (in the past few seasons).
i am not labeling him a failure, he is a great coach with great qualities as you’ve said before, but the past few seasons he hasnt been upto standard and its hurting arsenal. and the biggest factor of arsenal’s recent lack of trophies has to do with the number of inexperienced, but quality, youth in their squad.

Shehan you make a good point there about him not leading the team successfully the past few years. As an Arsenal fan I don’t blame this on youth I blame this on lack of Depth. He realizes their is growing pains with youth and that is why you need depth to help you get through those growing pains…but alas the media says its inexperience but to me its lack of depth.
Gian will never change his views on Totti so there really isn’t a point for any of us to keep talking about him on this board…

In all fairness to Ancelotti…the Urugayans can’t play in UEFA Cup. Home grown players had to be inserted as per UEFA rules, so those two got bumped.

I wonder, why don’t we sign Roberto Carlos as well? that would be nice ;p

wenger’s biggest problem is that he uses ‘youth’ for depth.
there was one game last season, i think vs. man.utd, where he started alex song as a CB in such an important game. why alex song? he had 2 centerbacks injured, and his 4th choice centerback was the inexperienced but potentially strong defender djourou, and he wasnt ready for that kind of step into the clash of the titans.
it was the perfect case of wenger’s over-reliance on youth. if you use your youth as your depth, and you arent going to use them when required; its not lack of depth, its lack of experienced quality in depth. thats where wenger f’d up. and he f’d up bad.
but as you said, i dont blame this on the youth either. they are at whatever level they are at, and you cannot expect more from them. but its wengers fault that he over-estimated their qualities at certain points and that screwed arsenal bad.

i am not interested in any arsenal talk unless they are going to send us all their players for free.by the way atalanta is not really a happy hunting ground for us, now is it?

What the hell? is this the arsenal forum?? Did any of you even watch them the other night, they were a laughing stock. They beat a truly terrible Fenerbhace 5-2 and it could so easily have been 5-2 the other way. Turks had two goals disallowed and the arsenal defence was a complete shambles.
Anyway getting back to more serious debate – Beckham. The man is a coathanger and will plough some money into the club. As a footballer he hasn’t been worth a damn since his 7 goal a year average for man utd. throw him on for some of the 89 uefa cup games uefa has hoisted on us and save the real players for league games.
Don’t let Atalanta be the next Cagliari (that was only two weeks ago remember).

Heerenveen played a bit scare, but they looked almost as talented as milan. Your team is overrated and will not win anything this year.

sims, no mudslinging please. we know we are not perfect. but it’s my team. you’re more than welcome to critisize us in a constructive way. please do not post childish comments.

Not childish to point out that this team is not going to win anything this year, just factual.

let’s wait till the end of the year for that. it’s not a prophecy that we would win. and it’s not a prophecy that we won’t.

In the choices I don’t make any exclusions due to age. Pato is being followed in a particular way because he is young, but I don’t really see all this necessity. I cannot guarantee him that he can play constantly. Neither him, nor any other. Whoever comes to Milan therefore knows that here there is no time to wait for the players who must improve to their use. However, Pato is a great talent and will be used and he will be useful.

Serginho visited the Milanello today. ive always thought that he is one of the most underrated players out there. i was just watching the other day all of Pippo’s goal and a big amount of them were thanks to Sergio.
“They asked me to go among them, but the last time I did that I cried and I avoided it. This team remains in my heart and it’s a pleasure to see and embrace great friends again.”
you’re a Milanista Sergio, one of us!

Abate is playing against us…against De Ceglie, you can see the difference between Milan and Juve there.

why do we regularly call up three keepers?

You know, there needs to be experience on the bench too right?

Not called up: Darmian, Cardacio, Viudez
^^ that sucks! but it’s actually a great thing for them. Saves them some time and energy of going to another game and warming the bench. So it’s good for them. Very considerate of you Ancelotti. Cheers!

Lol Moka I would take a different approach at “thanking” Ancelotti but that’s just me
