Azzurri Time

By: Gianfranco | June 1st, 2007

I have to admit that when the Azzurri play I tend to get a little excited since they are world champs and all. I also like to see when plenty of Rosoneri are on the squad as well. I really hope that Ambrosini can get some playing time this game, but is very hard with the tough Roma/Milan midfielders of Perrotta, Derossi, Gattuso, and Pirlo. He may fall into a sub spot at some point in the match. I am also excited to see who The Don slots in up front to score goals. During the World Cup everyone scored and I would like to see that continue. The flowing downfield play needs to continue to stay in good form.

I hope for a good showing and ultimately a Euro Cup win so that the Italian soccer dominance continues.

Donadoni supposedly put the starting XI through a walkthrough today:

    Gigi
    Oddo-Canna-Materazzi-Tonetto
    Gattusso-Pirlo-De Rossi
    Del Piero-Inzaghi-Rocchi/Quagliarella

Ambrosini & Zambrotta are out with injury.

    I miss Grosso.

I like how you called him “The Don”. After the win tomorrow I will start calling him that.

Well my Ambrosini has been rendered useless. I mix Grosso as well but Tonetto is quality. Del Piero is garbage and I would much rather Quagliarella, Rocchi, or Lucarelli. Del Piero had a good year in a B league why can’t anyone understand that. I am keen on the 4-3-3 it helps the attack big time, imagine the defensive collapse if the wing backs are up as well…

Tonetto is definitely the story of the year. First cap at 32 and he started balling when he got the phone call. He has been such a revelation for Roma this year but I miss the Grosso magic. What he did last summer was nothing short of wizardry.

I wonder if your feelings toward Del Piero have anything to do with those zebra stripes….

I’d like to see a top line of Quagliarella-Lucarelli-Del Piero to run the FI back line ragged. Lucarelli has a huge chip on his shoulder, thought the exclusion is mostly his fault, and I think he’s out to prove everyone wrong. And the guys just scores goals. Quags is fighting to prove everyone he’s here to stay when the big boys (Toni, Totti, Gila) come back. For games like this I think it’s best to play the guys with motive. That front line should score 4 alone. 6-0.
