Trofeo Berlusconi: Can We Get Something Right?

By: Gianfranco | August 17th, 2009

Tonight it’s Juventus for the second time in 4 days. Friday it wasn’t pretty, and Juve looks poised to make a legit run at the scudetto, while Milan are looking more and more incapable of anything. Judge now? Judge later? It doesn’t really matter because we are seeing now is not good, and even Leo knows it. Bottom line, time is running out and we need something, anything before Sunday!

Sadly my life is still in the remnmants of shambles and should be back to normal before the weekend, but please use this space to follow tonights match and post comments for those unable to follow.

The salary cap for European Football is sheer stupidity. It works in the States because of the isolation of the league(s).
How can you measure universal salary cap for teh European landmass, from Iceland to Kazakhstan :) ? Impossible.
Now, when Berlusconi is not a gun-slinger of the market he starts complaining… Lentini anyone?

    Chubby, EXACTLY!
Milan 4 Life, I dont think you will find 250,000 Milan fans willing to give £50. Have you seen the subscription sales for next season? Numbers are waaaay down.

Johonna and Chubby, thats true, but you are only looking at one side of things..

A traditional salary cap may be near impossible, but there are things such as revenue sharing that could benefit the game in general. But like I said, impossible, because the Big 3 would never go for that and lets be honest, they run everything…and get all the “right” calls in between

FFS, just trade Oddo with De Silvestri already. Why does it need thinking?!

B/c Oddo is experienced? As if we’re lacking experience.

    Oddo can cross? Hell no.

Then wtf are they waiting for. It’s not a big deal!

Johonna, historically Milan were always subscription leaders, but poor play and fans holding grudges with the club are also factors in down sales…yes citing the economy is the easiest way to go about things for an owner, but when he is partially at fault it would be nice for him to recognize that as well!

we have to get a left back, if we wont we’ll be biting our fingers until January to get one, when its too late.

now rumors are Kaladze for De Silvestri. id prefer trade Oddo, because he’s useless. but ill accept whatever, just give us De Silvestri. Janku isnt 110% dependable. Zambro is barely dealing with himself. this season get De Silvestri, next season focus on Zambro’s replacement.

“Thiago Silva is very strong, and with the return of Nesta, we have the best defensive pairing in Europe. Who can be sure that we will not go back to the levels of Maldini and Baresi?”

im not even a milan fan and that is fucking offensive! thiago silva will never even come close to baresi or maldini. nesta is of course one of the best of all time but still comparing the two is madness. has berlusconi finally lost the plot? what a joke he has become. one of the worst comments related to football ive ever heard

Syed – in that case, tell him he won’t get first team football. That should force him out. :P
Fet – Yea, Di Silvestri can take the right, while Zambrotta/Janks can rotate on the left. They’re both rather versatile.
Alex – It’s a Milan thing. Berlusconi and Galliani are known for those kind of remarks. It’s psychological. :P

Hey guys I only watched about 20 minutes of the first half. Do you think it is possible for abate to sub with Ronnie in an attacking mid role at all – I have not had a chance to see him play, and I know he is more of a winger, but would it be possible?

Hey Guys, Napoli offside here. We’re getting a Yahoo SerieA fantasy league of as many people from The Offside as we can. To join, go to ‘groups’ and click ‘join group’,
    type in:

    Group ID#: 670
    Password: forzaoffside

    * Another point, it might be a nice touch if you put the first few letters of the offside page you are from in parenthesis after your team manager name, so that we all know who is who and we can get a little inter-blog competition going on.

Ha. Money doesn’t win the league, ask Johonna. How much did Inter spend for 16-17 years without a Scudetto? A lot.

For the record, Milan’s payroll has been significantly higher than Juve’s the last two seasons…look where you are.

Too true, Alessio. Inter spent great heaping gobs of money and all we had to show for it were a couple Coppa Italias.

    Oh, and a UEFA cup.

I think we need to prepare ourselves to get no signings before the transfer window closes. That is the most likely option and we are only building up false hopes by expecting a player like de silvestri, let alone VdV or Sneider.

I would rather be pleasantly surprised if we signed a player before the close of market than be disappointed when we don’t.

Huntee shouldn’t have to serve a suspension from ANOTHER league…?!? that blows.
