State of Affairs: Carletto

By: Gianfranco | May 30th, 2008

I am going to take a state of affairs for each position at Milan and then hopefully onto a state affairs for Serie A and UEFA.

Coach…

For all intents and purposes it looks as though Carletto is staying. But a domino effect can certainly happen and here is how. The Don, win or lose, will not be the coach of the Azzurri come July. If he wins he will flip off everyone at the Italy offside who doubted him and tell the FIGC to shove his extension. This would open a spot for Carletto at the Azzurri and vacate a hole on the Rossoneri bench. This means the unemployed coaches, Lippi, Rijkaard, the Don, and Mourinho all go into the running for the Rossoneri job. Remember however this same pool is in line for Chelsea and possibly Inter so it will make an intriguing mess come July, and really turn the heat up on the transfer market with the potential of Chelsea exodus to wherever Mourinho lands.

I am not saying this is going to happen, but the possibility is very much their. Much of our positional discussions were surrounded around the formations of Carletto, but that would most definitely change with a new coach, any coach for that matter. As you can see we can talk this to death, but patience is the only thing that will solve this debacle…

*Since I wrote this post Carletto may or may not have been in contact with Chelsea. Would he go there I don’t know? But it would be scary to think of what the xmas tree would do at Stamford Bridge.

I, personally, do not want to see a foreign coach take charge of Milan. Therefor the only two options I see are to keep Carletto, or bring in Lippi. Lippi would be awesome, since he’s just pure talent, and he obv. won the world cup.

    Donadoni stays
    Ancelotti stays

If Donadoni gets sacked, I see Mancini going even though reports suggest Ancelotti.. (very slight chance I think)

    Mourinho -> Inter (confirmed already)
    Rijkaard/Lippi -> Chelsea

Ancelotti takes over after WC 2010..

Moka it is funny you say that about Mancini taking over the Azzurri but believe it or not he lacks a fair amount of respect on the boot, probably stemming from being being Morrati’s bitch. But it does make logical sense to see him or Carletto next in line, but dont rule out Casiraghi if things keep going well with the Azzurrini.

ONLY Lippi. anyone else its a huge downgrade. Milan need smart people to take over and no one is better than Lippi. Ancelotti knew the squad and knew how to handle them (im talking about his career here, not just last season…)

i know many here disagree but getting Rijkaard is a complete disaster. im still waiting for a conformation from Carletto before jumping to conclusions, so far nothing has been denied, could be just an inquiry nothing more. but if anything, a decision should be made at this moment. we need a lot of work to be done as everyone is aware of and to do so our coach for next season must be here to approve and demand the players coming and going.

i was so positive and optimistic at the beginning of the off season but now im have some small worrying thoughts, just because the market can be moved and is by others and considering our position in the market we should be topping it by getting whoever is available before others. anyway i still believe in our transfer guru, hopefully.

hmm.. OK let’s be fair.. I despise Inter and anything related to them (i.e. Mancini and Moratti), just like you all do..

Emotions aside, Inter have done well the past 2 seasons, with Mancini in charge.. Surely, last year there was no Juve and Milan started with -8 pts, but you can’t deny they were the strongest Italian team that season.. This season, the refs might have helped, but again, they were a strong team overall, domestically..

I just think it was an unfair sacking.. Just b/c they’ve been doing shit in the CL.. I think he’s a good coach.. Says stupid stuff, but nonetheless good.. and Moratti is the bitch..

What do managers have to do these days to keep their jobs?? It’s ridiculous..

Ancelotti is a better imo, but I just don’t see him leaving Milan soon.. There’s just too much love in this club.. :P and the players all love him..

On what basis are you saying Donadoni is going to not be Italy coach? He just signed an extension to his contract from what I know?

I agree. The only manager who I would like to see at Milan other then Ancelotti is Lippi. No Mourinho,no Rijkaard.

A, I think that regardless of his finish in Euro The Don may leave, the extension is a bit of a moot point.

I think it is noble of AC Milan to keep Ancelotti. In an age where managers can be sacked even for winning the title, it is good to see Milan showing loyalty to a man who has won a Scudetto, 2 CL titles, and a host of other trophies. However, with the (hopeful) addition of new players, Carletto MUST utilize new and different formations. The XMas tree need not be employed game after game.
Also, I think it is imperative that Carletto stay because of Pato. Pato and Carletto are like father and son, and if Carletto leaves just after Pato arrived, it would be like losing custody. Pato needs Carletto to stay to continue to grow and feel comforatble at the club. It is up to Ancelotti, however, to play the youngster and not keep him on the bench just because he likes to play with one striker.

Ancelotti should rethink of his position with youngsters and help them develop more… and should be more creative with formation but in an intelligent way, then he will be our Ferguson, stay forever till the end.

    NEWS…

Chelsea are pulling out all the stops to make Carlo Ancelotti their Coach for next season, according to the England Press.

Bookmakers have made the Milan tactician favourite to succeed Avram Grant, who was sacked three days after the Blues lost the Champions League Final.

The Daily Express has reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to pay Ancelotti around £6m a season for three years.

The Russian is also said to be willing to give the former Juventus and Parma trainer £100m to spend on players.

Ancelotti, who has led Milan to two Champions League triumphs, has emerged as a frontrunner because of his European pedigree.

Abramovich is desperate to win the most coveted prize in football and believes the 48-year-old from Reggiolo is the man for the job.

The oil magnate reportedly asked Ancelotti’s advice as to how to proceed at Chelsea at a meeting in Geneva on Monday.

Ancelotti was not thought to be on the Blues’ shortlist, which is said to include Mark Hughes, Roberto Mancini, Michael Laudrup and Frank Rijkaard.

Gianfranco Zola is allegedly being lined-up as Ancelotti’s assistant should he take the position at Stamford Bridge.

Zola is a legend at Chelsea and would help Ancelotti get his message across, as the former Roma midfielder does not speak English.

Ancelotti is, however, tied to Milan until 2010 and the Rossoneri would expect a large compensation package if he were to leave.

Carlo fits the bill for what Chelsea are looking for far better than Mancini does especially at Euro level.

Chelsea have a budget to prise Carlo away if they want him that bad, it is only a question of if Carlo WANTS to walk.

Lippi has already categorically put himself out of the running at Chelsea, saying that the language barrier is too big (but didnt he have foreign players at Juve?)

Mancinis’ man management skills have a huge question mark over them so i cant see the Azzurri or Chelsea breaking a sweat over him.

I havnt hidden my displeasure over Carlos tactics/formations over the past season, i still believe that a move would be good for the team, but ONLY if we can find a decent replacement.

Which brings us back to the Mourinho/Lippi/Rijkaard carousel all over again. Im getting motion sickness again.

Mourinho, is my fave choice, if you look how half hearted performances from our guys where, it is an advertisement for a manager who can motivate them in away that Carlo no longer can.

Pato, Gourcuff need a manager like Mourinho to put some bit more belief and steel in them. Look at how there is an expected exodus at Chelsea after Mourinho lands at his new club for evidence of how well players believe they can do under him. Deco, Carvalho, Lampard & Drogba all expected being mooted to follow their former coach.

Again, i believe that Mourinho would bring the beast back out of Rino.

But as the days go by the Mourinho option is pretty much evaporating.

Lippi arguably knows Calcio better than anyone currently in Serie A and has won pretty much everything, so his managerial pedigree is not in doubt his WC win is also immense in my eyes.

I consider Lippi to be the safest option in that i cant see him rocking the boat if he ever boarded Milan.

Rijkaard, the old Milan face is also a welcome option in my eyes, Rijkaard does like his team to play with flair, as long as he doesn’t make us even more defensively deficient (than we already are) i think we would see all out attacks from Seedorf, Kaka and wee Pats.

I would love the idea of an attacking Milan.

Avia I have to say your comment is superb, and the money that Milan would take in for the Ancellotti sale could prove extremely valuable in the transfer market. The real problem I see is Mourinho may already be Inter’s coach by the time this deal develops, and that would make things even worse. Lippi would be an excellent tactician but I am afraid as always Milan are giving to little to late here.

Yeah, i would hate to end up in the position where we have no Ancelotti and Mourinho at the Merda!

Unless we can snatch him last min! (There is talk that he’s currently under pre-contract that will be resolved once the Mancini debacle is finalised). But i kno this is an outside chance.

I just hope our management know what they are doing!
