Milan Meet & Greet

By: Gianfranco | February 26th, 2008

Disclaimer: I tried to keep this meet & greet as close to Milan related as possible, but feel free to share more info or ask questions that I am sure we would all be happy to answer. I will not be posting a full Catania preview but I will make sure to post a recap on Thursday.

Without further adieu I present to you the Milan Meet & Greet. Why you ask? Because last week we all came to the realization that we know absolutely nothing about the virtual company that we keep. Sure we have seen some pictures of Fetyani, and we know Ro is a girl, but there is so much more to learn.

I have put together a list of ten questions which I will answer, and ask you to do the same in the comments. We know each other’s name but please feel free to share yours if you use a nickname.

1. Where are you located? I am in CT, the northeast part.

2. Work or Study? Details People! I review and negotiate contracts for the University of CT, UCONN for short. I am also a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, where I had some great Milan memories.

3. How did you become Rossoneri? I am part of a long line of Milanista, well me and my Dad to be exact, plus we got my cousin and sis. My Pops is from southern Italy, next door to Napoli but his love for an older version of Maldini got him going and a new Milanista was born.

4. Favorite National Team (please tell us if it is different than your Nationality)? FORZA AZZURRI!!!!! CAMPIONE DEL MONDO!!!!

5. Favorite Current Player? Il Capitano, but in a few months when he becomes my favorite past player, Rino will take the crown.

6. Favorite Past Player? I really struggled here but finally settled on Donadoni, but Baresi and Albertini are a very, very, very close second.

7. Favorite Milan Moment? My first, was my favorite, I stayed up late to watch the then Toyota Cup with my dad on RAI. Milan beat Olimpia Asuncion 3-nil and Franki Rijkaard was man of the match, and I was jumping up and down like a crazy seven year old.

8. Worst Milan Moment? Istanbul, I came home from class and by half time I was 8 Heinekens deep and was standing on the coffee table of my apartment cheering on a 3-nil lead, we all know what happened after that. If I could take back that day I would.

9. Favorite Foreigner to Wear the Red and Black? George Weah, the Dutchmen were good and so was Sheva, but George was King.

10. Favorite player to never wear Rossoneri? Drogba, I know it is a cheesy to way to go, but I started watching Chelsea when Sheva skipped town, and realized that he was nothing compared to that man.

One more thing, please watch this, the kid is awesome *THANKS RO

Will def keep it in mind about your guy for tickets. I am seriously thinking about getting seasons tickets for next year and just jetting over a few times. Cheaper than spending 400 bucks each time on a ticket! But I have to see… It’s more about the hassle of it all and figuring everything out and travelling alone than the money and time (I’m self-employed, I take any day off I want).

And I was pissed beyond belief when I saw that Valencia are at Barca that weekend. I’m in Barcelona right up to that weekend, what are the chances that my favourite spanish team play my most hated spanish team… and it’s the derby weekend?!

Avia: It was the 92/93 season that we lost to Marseille. We thrashed Barcelona in the 93/94 season. Yes, I remember the Marseille game very well. But it was not Boli who destroyed van Basten’s ankle or his career. van Basten did say, after his premature retirement, it was Jurgen Kohler of Juventus was the one who did the initial damage. But he blamed the surgeon in Belgium (can’t remember his name) the most for putting out his career.

The main problem during that game was that van Basten was tightly marked by Desailly and Boli. But it left Massaro free to run into space. However, he missed 2-3 chances during the game. When JP Papin came in the second half, it was a bit more successful but it failed to break down Marseille’s solid defence. Imagine van Basten-Papin-Massaro combination then! That was great but unfortunately, we lost.

bonnie and fetyani – for the derby last year, bought the tickets from inter.it and got tickets in section K, 7 rows from the front for 140€ each
for the arsenal match, told tonino at milanpoint.ch 3 months ago and sent him the money in advance – got the tickets that i wanted – in tribuna onore for 120€ each whereas the official price is 99€…still think worth a shot..of course season tickets is the best option, am def buying this time around!

LFiction, thanks for the reply, and you bring back very cherished memories of Papin & Van Basten! A lethal strike force combined with one of the most feared defences in Europe. Amazing! Massaro is STILL one of my all time favs, a typical italian striker. Sad when he left for Japan! Back in those days and for a while after, i always felt like Milan were truly feared by other teams (and rightly so!) but we are lacking that now sadly.

To be able to take off Papin and bring on Massaro! A site to strike fear into an opposition (it is a sign of our current lack of depth in the squad) but when Carletto recently took off Pato & brought on Gila it made no difference, the tempo stays the same etc.

Sam, that’s actually a really good idea. I just went to the Inter site (I feel dirty now), they have Reggina tickets, it would be amazingly convenient if they put some derby tickets up… What’s the deal with Milan’s site no longer selling them? I bought them last year from their site.

bonnie, inter wont put up the derby tickets, because its a milan game, milan are the ones selling the tickets. i had to deal directly with inter, i know i still cant forgive myself, i heard the inno inter song way too many times. milan dont sell them online.

here’s the milan authorized ticket outlets

Avia, i always say that to my friends who live is europe, you dont know how lucky you are, and on top of that you rarely go to games. if i was anywhere in europe id buy milan season tickets in a heart beat. ive only been to the san siro twice, in december milan-catanoa & inter-milan, both 2-1 loss.

bonnie, oh you dont even know how bad it feels, even worse is going 3 hours before the game and just sitting in your seat surrounded by interisti and listening to the god damn inter inno song “amala inter inter amala” for 3 straight hours, i was so close to ripping my ears out.

you guys are getting me so excited, im sending my visa bill to the offside, its your fault.

I showed my younger brother (also Milan tifosi) your pics of Massaro and he screamed in anger/joy/jealousy!

Massaro is one of our all time favs.

But having looked at your record of Milan matches were we incurred a loss im not sure i wana go the same time as you, no offence! ;-0

But def. got to get my ass over there, its got to be done.

Hey, when I went to the San Siro, we won, 3-1(phenomenal strike by Ronaldo for first goal)! But it was against Empoli, so it was expected. But we also drew Roma at home when I went, so I don’t seem to bring quite the back luck Fetyani does.

Honestly, there is no feeling like going to the San Siro for the first time, sitting in those seats surrounded by other fans, seeing the Coreography, screaming as our boys take the pitch.

It’s funny though, I was sitting with mostly season ticket holders and the difference in our attitudes was so different. they left 5 minutes before time, they thought I was hilarious because I would cheer and scream at everything, they sat for most of the game. What I wouldn’t give to be at every game like them!

yah i know what you mean bonnie. especially the first time you see the stadium from outside. i was walking and just saying, where the hell is it, then i see the tip of the stadiums corners, best feeling. it even gets better when you go inside, visit the locker rooms and stuff. unfortunately in both games they only sang (forza lotta, vincere, non ti laceremo mai) once in the catania game and only a few group of fans started singing it, when they did the hair on my neck was up straight, got goosebumps all over my body.

again, there’s a reason why we didnt win, a logical reason. god decided ill have the best luck right up to the game, actually right up to pirlo’s goal, then we lose. i sat on a plane next to seedorf, we chatted for 40 minutes straight. met ambrosini and kaladze. also ran into Ariedo Braida.

okay, now i really cant wait!!!! some people who live in europe, especially around their favorite team, dont know how lucky they are.

I’m wondering the same thing, I didn’t do a tour last time, I dragged myself out to Milanello instead and got autographs and such (I know, so lame, but I had to).

Umm, Fetyani, do you think this time you can sacrifice your amazing “meeting the players” luck for a derby win?

im good friends with Paolo Maldini, he got me in the locker rooms. im kidding..im kidding. its 12 euros for the tour and museum. you even go to the inter locker room, im not saying because im a milanista, but inter’s locker room is just plain and stupid. and i sat in maldini’s seat, and rubbed my ass in it!! =D one thing i also wanted to do badly in pee in the urinals lol, but i thought thats way over the line. the locker room http://s134.photobucket.com/albums/q87/milanista3/?action=view&current=DSC03425.jpg

bonnie, i dont meet the players, they come to me =D but yah of course, for Il Capitano to win his derby, ill sacrifice my life. unless i meet Il Capitano =)

i never got a chance to go to milanello, how did you go there? because i heard its around 70 euro ride one way and you may just meet some players outside. although the day before the derby they allowed fans to watch the training and i didnt know, so i missed it.

Hey, i went to Alcatraz and sat on Al Capones toilet!

I think we should organize a trip to the last derby or Maldinis last match and make a point of visiting Milanello also.

    Who’s with me??

I actually took the train out, and then a bus, and then walked a bit. It wasn’t hard… actually, I say that now, but it was difficult at the time. Woke up at 5:30, had no idea where I was, walked until I found signs… I was so bloody happy when Oddo (first player to show up) arrived – made it all worthwhile. Almost all the players stop and sign autographs and chat – Oddo, Pirlo, Nesta, Rino, Ambro and Billy, Kalac, Ancelotti, Fiore, Brocchi, and Pippo, who was a little flirt.

Seriously, I’ll be there for the derby, in Rome for the last match weekend but I think I’m gonna try to get over, so if any of you are there I’d be up for meeting up!
