Tuesday Milan Musings

By: Gianfranco | March 25th, 2008

This is probably the only time I will say this in my 25 years of life, cheers to Inter. Why would I say such crazy things? Sure I drank a few beers with dinner but that’s not the reason, the real reason is that Inter have done Ol’Sil and Fester a huge favor. They are very near closing a deal for Silvio’s former crush Ronaldinho. This is great news on a few fronts; first and foremost it makes ‘Dinho no longer available for us. Second of all it keeps us from being embarrassed in a bidding war, which I prefer the squad did not win. Third is Ronaldinho just plain sucks in 08.

The downfall of Ronaldinho is completely beyond me, but he has not been in form since the end of the 06 World Cup. It was a horrible performance by his standards and one that he has not since recovered from. Just this past weekend the Barcelona medical staff hit back at Frank Rijkaard who continues to say ‘Dinho does not dress because of injury. The medical staff dispelled this notion and clearly stated Dinho does not dress because he sucks.

For all we know the buck toothed Brazilian may be reborn in the black and blue, but I believe this is highly unlikely. Inter has not been all that kind to Brazilian players for example Ronaldo and Adriano. Ronaldo had to leave Inter to regain some sense of form while Adriano has gone completely insane, telling the press that they can only refer to his as “The Emperor.” The real problem is the lack of discipline on the wrong side of Milan, these Brazilians Ronaldo, Dinho & Adriano are not exactly the tame and Jesus loving Kaka type, and they did not succeed in a club that typically does not have coaches who rule all that strongly.

(Note the unattractive women, and cigarette. Pure class.)

Mancini plainly proved that he was incapable of even dealing with Adriano and has made many ultimatums that he does not want the Emperor on the squad. He has also failed to reign in Zlatan who is a bit of a premadonna who needs a strong coach to keep him in check, ala Capello.

Like a said earlier, this really helps and keeps the Rossoneri from making a big mistake and frees up money to spend elsewhere. Regardless, Inter is going to spend a ton of cash on this upwards of around 60M with the help of Nike, which leads to the shrinkage of Moratti’s transfer wallet, and may even start some egos to rip out of the wrong side of the San Siro. This move may also leave to the transfer of the Matrix, the only Italian starter on Inter FC.

I recognize that if Nesta started the game against France in the WC06 Zidane who not have been shown red, and Italy may not have won the WC, but I still and will always hate Matrix.

Watching Del Piero make him look silly this weekend was just fantastic in my opinion and good riddance if he goes to Barca, it will certainly move Zambrotta to the San Siro.

Lahm has been referred to as the German Maldini, so dont expect to go to far anytime soon. As for Podolski, Klinsmann is taking over Bayern next year and may be more likely to let Toni go than Podolski. Klinsmann is very much in favor of German players and will not hestitate to work his players for the WC06 that made him look like a god…

I know Lahm’s not looking to leave, but there are clubs making offers for him. Even if he’s not putting himself on the market, if clubs are going after him and he starts thinking about moving, I’d at least want Milan in there as a possibility.

He’s like Sergio Ramos to me, not likely to move right now, but why not try?

I thought of Podolski, but Milan wont be interested. He hasnt played much this year.
Goal.com says Milan want Van Nistelrooy.I am sure its more of those stupid transfer rumours.Way too old to consider.
I think we need 2 new fullbacks. Only Zambrotta wont do.We need a younger fullback(Alves,Lahm..PLEASE Milan, sign one of them).

It’s none of his business to “look out for whoever is taking his place.” He’ll be 35 in August and is constantly handicapped or unavailable due to persistent injuries and probably the effects of aging and the honorable thing to do IMO is to call it quits with the reputation as a great still intact and not to sit out the contract, hope for a renewal and be a liability more than an asset to the team. I love Pippo, so please don’t mistake my criticism for bashing. I feel players have too much influence at Milan (the senatori are consulted before new signings are made) which IMHO is one reason, aside from Berlusconi’s stinginess, why we don’t have new players transferred in who could pose a real threat to the starting eleven. There is too little competition and too much protection of the current pecking order. I too hope Borriello will be recalled and the sensible thing would be to sell Gila who unfortunately doesn’t seem to cut it. Pato and Paloschi are both very young and unexperienced and IMO would only benefit from a having an experienced (yet not past it) player by their side, nationality really shouldn’t matter.

this is from annetta who posted this at a forum I frequent…Don’t go to harsh because she’s exactly right

you cant expect to have a family environment at the club and then expect them not to look out for as you said, whoever is taking his place… the club is a family, its only natural that they look out for each other… this isnt like inter where the players feed each other to the sharks and start blaming other players for a loss… they stick together, and that is exactly what has got us this far… can’t really just throw all that out the window, when the things are getting tough…

dont get me wrong, i agree that we need new, strong players and if they are foreign, but i cant take offence to pippo jumping out in support of gila, palsoschi, pato and even borriello…

and the players have too much say, well, they should agree with the players they are bringing into their family…

as fans, we love the family atmosphere of milan, but then we get annoyed when a player jumps out in support of a failing player(gila)… what pippo basically said was that we didnt need to bring in anyone else, just put more faith in our current players…

I understand exactly what you mean K…and I bit my tongue while coming here to see the response that little piece she wrote got after witnessing the throw down that went down in the forum over her post…So i’m kinda hoping that no one got offened here…didn’t mean to post something that apperantly over in the forum is so controversial that people are actually going at each other.

I completely understand what you are saying and but I think that what pippo said maybe got twisted around? I hope that he doesn’t think that we can go another year with out any reniforcements at all if at least bench warmers…because we need capable bench players too…first team needs some help…and we also need some capable players on the bench when the need arises to take over.

The chemistry at Milan has always been a very strong and delicate thing, many players who came in where ostracized before even getting a chance to prove themselves such as Rivaldo, Kluivert and Roque Junior. Even guys like Bierhoff were met with resistance. The thing that I think Pippo is trying to get at it is dont mess with a good thing, but he does not seem to see that it is not a good thing. Maybe he believes our mids need more help than our attack?

Ya, while I didn’t completely agree with Pippo’s word, I agreed with the reason behind it. I’ve always felt that our “Milan family” environment is both our strongest point and our weak link. It’s what makes Milan great, a team to admire for more than just their football, but it also keeps us from buying players who aren’t completely accepted and from cutting player past their prime. I guess when it comes down to it, I’d rather we keep our identity and struggle than turn into freaking, Chelsea or something.

Speaking of word-twisting, did anyone catch the garbage out of Gullit’s mouth on goal.com? Again, I’m hoping that his words were twisted, because if he actually said that Maldini is too old to play in the US, and all that crap, I want to just smack him in the mouth when he comes to town with his little Galaxies.

Word Bonnie, i’ll hold Gullits arms behind his back while u get stuck in lol! Bit cheeky of the old Milan favourite if you ask me.

As for Pips, i get what he means but i dont care WHO comes as long as they bring the right attitude (and winning ways) to the club (not just a money hungry mercenary looking to see out the remainder of his footballing career!).

    Forza Milan!

I’m down with that Avia. I’m alright with a little Milan critism, but he doesn’t have to get rude about it!

I guess it’s just my love for defenders, but I really would rather see us buy two class defenders, a good fullback and a CB rather than a striker. Not that I should have to choose, I’d like to have all three. And Flamini.

Flamini Moving Closer To Milan - Report

Arsenal midfielder Matthieu Flamini is moving ever closer to a move to AC Milan, according to Tuttosport.

Flamini has developed into one of Europe’s finest defensive midfielders this season, and he was simply brilliant during both legs of Arsenal’s recent Champions League victory over Milan.

Rossoneri President Silvio Berlusconi was hugely impressed with Flamini, and it was reported a couple of weeks ago that he was planning to make a bid for the player.

The Frenchman’s future at the Emirates Stadium is clouded in huge doubt as his contract runs out in June, meaning that he could move to another club on a Bosman free transfer.

Tuttosport says that Flamini has rejected a new deal from Arsenal that would raise his salary from €1m to €2m a year.

Berlusconi would be prepared to offer Flamini between €3m and €3.5m, and this is said to be a more than tempting proposal.

The 23-year-old, who has Italian ancestry, has stated in the past that he would like to play in Serie A, and Arsenal’s recent struggles, which has seen their Premiership challenge virtually evaporate, may also push him through the exit door.

i think gullit’s word has been twisted around… i think what they asked him was would he bring paolo maldini to USA, he said something like that 40 years may be too many and that he would bring gattuso instead…

not the best thing that he has said, but not as controvertial as shown on goal.com
